She is not any common earth
Water or wood or air
But Merlin's Isle of Gramarye
Where you and I will fare.

The Sword in the Stone by T.H. White The Sword in the Stone by T.H. White, the first part of The Once and Future King, published in 1939, imaginative retelling of King Arthur's early life, chapters XI to XXIV.

Alana (alanasbooks) | 730 comments The end of the fun part! I enjoyed it, although it was a bit off kilter and weird. How does this compare to other Arthurian tales? I haven't read any others, so my knowledge is very limited.

Alana (alanasbooks) | 730 comments I will say, this was the only section of the book I really enjoyed. I'm nearing the end of the four sections (there is also a fifth, The Book of Merlyn, but to my understanding, it's usually considered a separate book) and I can't wait to be done with the whole thing. Part of it are so tedious. But The Sword in the Stone was quite humorous and fun :)

I still have to get to the next four books, having read the first one only today. Some parts were tedious with descriptions I didn't care for, but I liked it overall. Wart's transformations were quite funny, especially the meeting with the anonymous hedgehog who afterwards sent him a gift of a couple of dirty leaves with fleas on them :)
The funniest moment was King Pellinore's fear for the Questing Beast's well being - they were so fond enemies they couldn't live without each other.

Alana (alanasbooks) | 730 comments I did quite enjoy King Pellinore and the Questing Beast, I must say. Good fun :)
