I read this back in May and finished it in two days. It still comes to mind a lot. I think one of the reasons I can't stop thinking about it is because right before I started reading the book, my brother had a total artificial heart transplant. His situation isn't the same as being a total quadriplegic but I can see some of the similarities as his depression worsens. While he's on this machine, he can't be left alone and for someone who is fairly independent, I know he hates relying on all of us to even make it to the bathroom. I often worry if he'll just give up and it terrifies me. He's only 32 but he still has to wait for a heart transplant to have a hope of getting back some of the life he once had. I sympathized with Lou and Will and could see the reasoning behind both of their viewpoints. It's such a difficult issue to deal with. I can also appreciate how Will wanted to make a decision for himself, be in control of something in his life.

When I first finished I was actually pretty disappointed with how it ended. (view spoiler)[I had no doubt in my mind Will was going to die, but I really wanted more emotion from him about the whole thing. He didn't even tell Lou he loved her? He loved her right?? But now I know it has to go on my favorites shelf...I'm still thinking about it 13 hours later. (hide spoiler)]
Reading the reviews now I see it's a love it or hate it book. What are your thoughts? As you can tell from the title, were you as affected by it as me?
