Jason (jase3gt) | 70 comments I finished Brown Girl Dreaming and I just didn’t really get it. I thought some poems were off topic and kind of confusing for the story. It took me forever to get through this book. When I first started reading and she was talking about the time she was born, I thought we might get some really interesting stories but we didn’t. It was disappointing that other than the format there was nothing different about this story from a lot of others. I didn’t learn anything new or even hear anything new in the stories.

Jason (jase3gt) | 70 comments I’ve never read The Cay but I’ve been to Curucao. I got kissed by a sea lion there!

Terris | 179 comments I'm so glad you said that about Brown Girl Dreaming! I felt the same way! But, because everyone else seemed to be raving about it, I thought I must have missed something. I just didn't like it that much :/

Well, you must read The Cay, then! You can relive the memories of kissing the sea lion ;)
It really is a very good book, also it's short. Give it a try :)

Terris | 179 comments I just finished Pax by Sara Pennypacker Pax by Sara Pennypacker. It was pretty good. Not my favorite, but I think kids in elementary school would probably like it. It has some pretty good lessons in it. It is about a young boy who is separated from his pet fox and is trying to get back to him. Told from the boy's perspective and also from the fox's point of view.

Terris | 179 comments I was saddened to hear of the death of Eric Carle. I often read his books to my kindergarten students :'(
