The Monuments Men_The Movie

The last section of the book (Part V. The Aftermath) is a short one, but has some tidbits at the end of the book that might be interesting (a somewhat important side note: I still do not have the book at the hand so I do not really know what they are).

Here you may post your impressions on the book as a whole and your comparisons with the movie if you have already seen it.

If you haven't read the book yet, you can freely just talk about the movie and do not fear the spoilers. These events really occurred in our history, so spoilers kinda do not apply here :)

Alana (alanasbooks) | 730 comments Isn't it interesting how, in honest history, men and women often are not recognized for the roles they have played in protecting the most important aspects of our cultures? I was amazed to learn how some of these people were treated after the war, after the hard work they put in. It seems most of the Americans made out all right, but many of the Europeans, especially the ones that truly risked their lives for YEARS, often had very sad ends, unrecognized by their county and the world at large. So sad.

Alana (alanasbooks) | 730 comments I got 20 minutes into the movie, but it was a bad copy, so I'll have to wait for another disk before I can finish watching. Was good so far, though.

So I ended up watching the 1947 version of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and... lo and behold, they are trying to keep the Nazis from finding a book wherein are written the hidden away locations of all of the Dutch art! What fun timing :)
