Charlie (charlieridley) | 5750 comments @Barry Thanks!

@Siobhan I need to read the 3rd book in the Farseer trilogy so I'll join you for book 3 and I might pop in for the discussions of books 1 and 2 to jog my memory. I'd love to re-read them but I'll have to see what else I've got scheduled honestly since I remember they took me quite a while to get through.

Great! Maybe you'll want to continue the 2nd trilogy with us?

message 3303: by Johana (new)

Johana @Katie Koloske: thanks for explaining about the start date :) I'm excited for my first BR read coming up in a couple of months!
And also thanks for asking for the creation of the Red Sister discussion! Read you all in December

Anyone interested in reading Stars Uncharted? It came out last month, and is the new book by the authors of the Linesman series, which I enjoyed until it was cancelled early...

I'd like to read this in the near future, since I'm using the end of the year to catch up on things... not sure if this is standalone, or the beginning of a series, but there is no series name linked to it at the moment...

EDIT: It's a standalone story with a followup planned, apparently... if that matters to anyone deciding...

Elinor | 1548 comments I'm interested in Stars Uncharted Iain but it will depend on when you plan to read it :)
The Linesman series was cancelled ? didn't know that ! I really wanted to read it, I've heard good things...

I have a copy from Netgalley that I need to start on this Saturday. I don't know if that's too soon for you though.

I have hopes they'll finish it one day, but for now it's on hiatus... it's not terribly bad to read the 3 existing books, but 6 were planned... the series stopped just when we were finally maybe going to encounter the aliens behind the high-tech derelict ships/tech...

I would have waited for you on Stars Uncharted, since I'm a fast reader, but Tammie is reading this weekend, so I'll join her...

Shaitarn | 2185 comments Would anyone be interested in reading A Discovery of Witches? I've heard just enough to make me suspect I'll hate it (I didn't know that when I bought it) so a buddy read may well be the only way I'll read it rather than DNFing.

I'm looking at October or November for this - no rush!

message 3316: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments This might be a long shot but I was hoping if anyone wanted to BR one of these 2 reads in December

Vox by Christine Dascher- I saw this in Waterstones and when I read the blurb I was intrigued by the concept and a bit uncomfortable about it as well. I heard it’s similar to the handmaids tale I’ve never read or watched it so I don’t know for sure but any takers because honestly the idea to me sounds really cool and depressing

Red knight by miles Cameron- I’m hoping third times the charm because I read quite a bit into it and was very intrigued with what was happening and I want to read this with more people

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Correction it’s actually Christina Dalcher

I'm up for both of these! I already own Red Knight so that'll be easier to read first but I'm happy to buy Vox too, it sounds great.

message 3319: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments That’s great Charlie how about we read red knight in December and January we can read Vox just space it out

I’ll set a thread up later today to see if we have more people wanting to join

Vox sounds interesting and I’ve been wanting to get into some feminist stuff even though as a guy it makes me hmmm 😓😓😓😓

Beste | 1163 comments All the A Discovery of Witches enthusiasts, you are being warned.

You will love the action in the first book. You will like the historical references in the second book. BUT! HOWEVER! UNFORTUNATELY! (I won't say 'you will' or 'you will not' this bit is variational) Third book has less of the action and less of the interesting references. (In other words guys; reading the 3rd book was suffocating for me, I hated it)

@ Katie & Laura How about we schedule it for 28th October?

I suggest we ask to have this listed as a stand alone for now and decide while we're reading the first one if we want to read the others in the series.

I would love to read this, but unfortunately I can't get it at a reasonable price here. It isn't at my library and I can only find a paperback copy on Amazon for 28 dollars.

EDIT- I went to the author's website and found out it isn't being released until September 20th, but that's in the UK. I haven't found out when it is being released in the US. I'm also wondering how there are copies already for sale from other sellers on Amazon if it hasn't been released yet.

Maybe they're selling ARCs? I buy quite often from the Book Depository for my UK releases. The shipping is free and I've never had any problems with them. But I totally understand balking at the price. Hardcovers can get expensive and I'm not seeing an ebook version, which is typically much less.

I don't want to re-read it right now, but the Pendragon Adventure was a great series when I read it 10-12 years ago... time travel and alternate dimension elements, and some great twists and turns... I think the last book was a bit weird, but otherwise no complaints...

Also I don't seem to remember this time I sold it to you? I mean, it sounds like something I would definitely do. It's possible I have said it so many times to so many people that I've lost track.

Where was this? I should probably copy it and paste it in other places where other people can look at it and be drawn into the abyss.
