I'm definitely down for doing a massive FR read if people are interested!"
Well I'd be up for it - I have a shelf and a half FR books that are probably due a read. Is January soon enough for you? And what would you like to start with? I suggested the Harpers series, but we could start with something else if you'd like to do a massive FR binge!

Hmm it comes out on the 6th and I have Buddy Reads on the 5th and 10th. Do you have any planned around that time?

What would be a good time for you? Would you want to do it maybe after April when more people are freed up to join too?

After April would be fine for me; let me know when is good for you and I'll squeeze it in somewhere!

I only have Last Unicorn penciled in, and that's for the 17th. However, I may need a week or two to actually get the book. Would a week after the release do? Unless you want to read it sooner.
Beste wrote: "Anyone interested in reading Demon Cycle?"I really need to finish those. I've read the first two, but it's been years.

So I should get them?
I've just read desert spear last month and I also met the author in September and so far I'm enjoying the series so it's worth a try if you do get some people to join you and you want to continue the series I may join for the third book but so far I'm liking how the story is going

Do you want to try for the 13th and we can always change it if we need too?
I'd recommend them, Beste. Only reason I didn't keep reading was that they were the only books out at the time.

Chris Murphy and I were talking about converging for a BR of the third demon cycle once he caught up. I put it in DNF, but it has been calling to me. If the group reads, maybe we can both join the bandwagon.

I only read the first book from the Demon Cycle in March as a Buddyread here and would gladly join you for Desert Spear. :)

Starting in mid-January works for me?
Harpers first sounds good, but I really don't mind. We can just go for that series first and then go from there if it's a success. I've been meaning to start Drizzt's books again and work up to the newer ones I missed, and I know I have a set by Elaine Cunningham that I wanted to get to eventually.
I'm very excited to get started though!
@ Sean - I'd like to join you for Drizzt if you want to BR the series. I've read the first 3 and want to go on with the others also. And would anyone be interested in Salvatore's Demonwars Saga?
Laura, I would like to continue on with Drizzt as well! I have read the first 4. Although, I have them in all different freaking lists. Every time I get them numbered I have to change them and then change them again. Lol. Let me know if you all are going to do a series read and I will start with you on the next book I haven't read and so on until the end of time 😄
Laura wrote: "@ Sean - I'd like to join you for Drizzt if you want to BR the series. I've read the first 3 and want to go on with the others also. And would anyone be interested in Salvatore's Demonwars Saga?"
I'm definitely up for starting the series at some point alright! We can maybe get the Harper series started with Shaitarn and then get a larger FR read organised in the meantime?
And by larger, I mean let's read every single FR book in some to-be-determined order :)
I can't do the Harper series as I don't have the books. :( Also, I have so many that I own and haven't read yet - I promised myself to finish as many of my Owned-To-Read shelf as possible by next year. I'll hop into your BRs for those that I do have.
@Mel - I can read the 4th one by myself so we can continue with the 5th. It would be great to BR them together. 😘 Do you have a start date in mind?

Cool, well we'll get something formal organised. I have a bit of time so might draw up a....sizeable list and see what people think :)
@Sean - Mine are in total dissaray. Sorted by author with just a small note of forgotten realms. I honestly haven't got a clue which is the order - if there is any.
Laura wrote: "@Mel - I can read the 4th one by myself so we can continue with the 5th. It would be great to BR them together. 😘 Do you have a start date in mind?"Okay, the next one I have as 5 is
Streams of Silver and whenever. 😊 I have a huge stack of all the ones up to the current ones.

Would you prefer to start with a different FR series then? as I recall a couple of the Harpers books (Crown of Fire, for example) feature a character that was in another book and while this novel can be read without any previous knowledge, it might spoil the first novel when we get around to it.
I think there's always going to be a few small spoilers because so many of the series have crossover characters. I don't want to limit ourselves to only the Drizzt series, but I know it's probably the easiest to get started on. So we can just go with the Harper series to get the ball rolling, or step back and aim for something bigger.I'm cool either way - I know you just suggested the Harper series initially so I'm cool to just go with that :)
@Shaitarn - I have Crown of Fire so I'll BR that one. The thing is I am not really sure which Forgotten Realms books I do have. I'll check them out this evening and let you know. if only few of them are missing I'll sign up for the whole series BR and manage even with borrowing from the library.
@Mel - That's 5 by my counting also 😊. I can read the 4th this month and we could go for the 5th in December then continue with 1 a month. What do you say lovely? Should we ask for a thread?
Laura wrote: "Do you guys happen to know of a particular Forgotten Realms order?"There's a publication order, which has a lot of crap that'd be worth filtering out. And then there's a chronological order in terms of when events in the world happen, but again there'd be plenty to trim from that.
I can do up a list of the series that look worth reading and the order that would result in the least amount of crossovers/spoilers? There's a few similar lists floating around, but nothing that seems to include series like the Harpers, which I'm definitely interested in.
A list would be great Sean. I'm also checking right now which Forgotten Realms series I have. There are quite a few of them.

I think the only books the Harpers may 'spoil' are the Finder's Stone trilogy (starts with Azure Bonds) and Spellfire which is the prequel to Crown of Fire. If you're not too worried about that, we can start with the Harpers whenever you like.
Laura - make sure you read the Cleric Quintet after the Icewind Dale trilogy, before starting the Legacy books!
I'll do that Shaitarn. Thank you.Regarding Harpers - I don't have any of them so I'm out. If you guys will BR Elminster or Shandril's Saga however I'd like to join.
Ok, so I made a list. This is something I've been planning to do for a while, so no I haven't gone completely nuts. It's a rough reading order for everything FR based on publication order, trying to account for crossovers, and listing what's more than likely skippable. It's fine up until about 2006, when there are just so many series released that I don't know what to do with, so I just listed them at the end. The Drizzt books have been fully accounted for in the main list.So here you go:
(view spoiler)
So I'm not suggesting reading all of these! But the list is there, and it's on to-do list at some point. The Harpers definitely look like a good starting point to get into the world, cover a lot of ground, and not have too much spoiled due to crossover.
For insane people like me, I think it's a pretty good list :)
I've been wanting to read the Drizzt books and I haven't read many of the other FR either. I have to see what is available at my library.
