Hi Morte, Here a late appearance / reply to your WoK question. Like Zaara said, she and I hadn't set a date yet for reading it but I was kinda hoping to start after all my other buddy reads are done, which is the end of April.

Now I could try to do March or even February but I gotta be honest and I just don't know if I can do 5 chapters EVERY day. I usually don't have all that much reading time available to me during week nights - it varies, so it's pretty likely I would have to play catch up during the weekends so.... to make a long story short....

I'll leave it to Zaara if she wants to join you and Siobhan in March and as for myself, if it's in any way feasible for me, I'll join your merry bandwagon as well.

Also I'm now really really hoping Malazan isn't one of those farout anthropomorphic series...the goat thing really got me...like Tooth and Claw is Jane Austen with anthropomorphic DRAGONS (you hearing this #Austengals?) and the book is really adorable cuz dragons in luuuuurve and sweet dragon babies and...
xept for when the dragons start going on carriage rides...which did stretch my credibility a bit...cuz these dragons are forty feet tall and imagine the size of the wheels and *snort* what type of horse could pull...
Sooooo if Malazan is gonna be abt a creepy Fedora-wearing goat army on the Crusades wielding cattle prods as lightsabers or something...tell me now and I am out. Oh whom I kidding? I already bought all of the Fallen. This evil series is giving me trepidation, terrors, inferiority copmlex.
Oh and Iain...I fixed the xcuz=because thing bcuz...fair point! On;y dude...I'm worried i will soon have a relapse...
But re the rest...to be fair...on;y yesterday I posted an essay of comparable size on the new recommendations thread and this girl of thirteen was able to make it thru the end...no issues. And that was without all the nicknames explained in userfriendly brackets.
Picking up an unfriendly foreign language ain't that hard ;-)

I'm also up for Way of Kings next year. I tried reading it a few years ago and gave up half way through. Reading it on kindle was tough as it seemed like I'd made no progress despite reading for hours but now I have a physical copy of the book I'd like to give it a go.

Bcuz yesterday...like a dumbass...I assumed you were new to the group and quailing (like I was) and therefore in need of Malazan reassurance and group introductions. So I brought you the finest women and men. A pity! This was no common warband you would have ridden with, no mere paladins or centurions. This was the funkin' Praetorian Guard, my dear. And you go and reject on us like that...now we're all of us crushed and in mortal tormentwithout you. We feel like Caesar abandoned us...hehehe.
Careful now...this was part of what got Ole Julius killed by his own ;-P

But you're a fighter, ain't you, my darling girl? You got this all by yourself. You're Xena, Warrior Princess. Ok make that Lina Warrior Primcess...but close. Still, Malazan's not for everyone. I fully understand and appreciate that. Freedom of reading
choice. You broke all our hearts, you YOWZA THING you...but no pressure...no fuss. You go read Expanse. I actually wanted to be there for that one too, so its a great choice. I cheer you on. And I mean it.

Ok Morte *WARNING* you're really gonna hate me now. See...I went and checked @Sarah's and @Siobhan's trackers. I see @Dan has posted too abt her schedule. Father Iain is right. March is packed for us all so if we fit in WoK it will be a very tight squeeze. April is better. For ALL of us bcuz I checked all of the trackers.yours too. Also it will be excellent timing for another Stormlight cycle to begin for the group OVERALL bcuz by then the Oathbringer dust will have settled and lots more new ppl will have joined the group. Makes strategic sense for the party to be way cooler and more hep + that is the point of this group after all, no? Everyone reading together, accommodating, and turning up to chat + no cheating with early starts. Or else instead of FBR we could just call the group Fantasy Everyone Starts Whenever they Want and Zooms Essentially Alone, no?

Can you wait that long?
If not, I have three ideas/options for you:
1. You, Sarah and Siobhan can of course go ahead and start in March. Sorry @Sio/@Sarah. Dan and I can't make it then bcuz Blackthorn and Grimm starts precisely on the 17th and Marillier tends to take over my life and bring every other book to a screeching halt. So Dan and I will do it later...whenever. As Morte shrewdly observes, we are slow...so our headstart needs to be measured in months ;-)
2. I checked your shelves, @Morte and I noticed you also have Dreamer's Pool on your TBR. Why don't you join us for that series in Feb + March + April? On the 17th of each month, like I said. We'd love to have you. You're wacky. You're fun. You have this style. In fact, you're just like I used to be before the Doom of Valyria came upon me. After the Blackthorn series...we can take a deep breath and start Stormlight, ok??
3. @Ahdam is reading the book right NOW. You can join him right away, turn it into a BR and start reading immediately + Ahdam is simply the best. You can't ask for better company + yeah I know he already started but he is really bz busy with Uni, job hunting, his photography hobby + his Sean Bean accent ;-) so you'll have plenty of time to catch up, bcuz you read fast.

I hope one of these options work for you. Sorry once more for the second essay. I swear, I was gonna keep quiet once @Iain handled the explain-y reply but your post was just too tempting to resist.
If only you had stopped with me, Morte. See, I can take any variation of being cr@pped on like a man. And in my case you were totally justified. I loved how you called me out on the lengthiness and loopiness of my post. Very true! Very manly.
But Daniele...now that gal is gentle, sensitive, and layered. That gal is no flashy, shallow, talkative dipsh!t like me. She has a busy life + she reads slowly + thinks deeply abt what she reads. So we cannot, in good conscience, exclude or condescend to anyone like that with a thoughtless sentence, see? Especially when the read was originally their idea. If Dan saw this, she'd prolly be too classy to comment xcuz she's no streetrat like me. But she might be hurt, see? And I'd be a pretty sucky friend if I just let that happen and shaddup abt it...

Now I know you didn't really mean it like that (though it sure sounded that way) and you seem very young and blunt and therefore a very good person, at core. Me, I swear I'm ALWAYS saying the wrong thing (ask anyone) so you remind me of myself, a bit. Ok a lot. And if I didn't genuinely like you, Morte, and want to read with you...I would not be taking the time (and effort) to type out this second essay for you despite the demands on my attention. Of which there are more than one, my dear. Because me, I'm a lazy cow. Being serious is a huge effort. Very little can stir me to it. So (along with hating me forevaaaaaa) I hope you will remember what I say permanently and for all time?

And I just bought ALL of Sweaters after finishing Book 1 amd since I had Sweaters with the ugly cover and I had all crushed it during my hate for Oonagh phase I went and bought a double copy of Book 1 with the creamy yellow paper and the starkly beautiful black and white cover...I don't go this insane on all series...

I work nights... so I get up at 8pm and chime in on all the afternoon conversations I missed while sleeping... then check in through the night at work... Euro-people usually start popping in after my lunch and on towards the end of my shift it seems... by the time I get home from work in the morning, Zaara is burning the midnight oil and blaming me... by the time day-people are talking on work breaks/lunches, I'm heading to bed...
