The blurb on that last one intrigues me... I'm in for The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet...

message 1404: by Delitealex (new)

Delitealex | 403 comments Do you have an idea of a date you'd want to read it?

message 1405: by Siobhan (new)

Siobhan (poi5ongirl) | 8702 comments Ooh I'd like to do The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet too. Can you guys possibly do back end of January? Maybe around the 20th? If you want to do sooner that's totally cool though.

message 1406: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 494 comments I read The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet last summer. It was very good. I think you guys will enjoy it!

message 1407: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 3613 comments I read it last year too. It's not big on plot but it's a feel good story.

My schedule is most open from the 10th-15th & 20th-27th of December, and the 15th-25th of January (since Siobhan asked about then)

message 1410: by Delitealex (new)

Delitealex | 403 comments Around the 20th of Jan sounds good to me

message 1411: by Danisha (new)

Danisha | 21 comments I’d be very interested in joining you guys In The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet. January sounds great since December’s a bit hectic already. But, if it’s decided earlier I’d still like to try and join in.

January 20th sounds great to me... if we want to setup Closed and Common Orbit as well, the 25th would be better in February or March... someone with desktop access would be better suited to put in the request to the mods for folder/thread...

message 1414: by Seán (new)

Seán | 602 comments I'll be in for Closed and Common Orbit, if I haven't read it already by then. Really enjoyed the first one, it was a nice, easy-going read to break up all the violent grimdark.

Thats what I need in between all these reads I sign up for as well... squeezing in Edgedancer atm...

message 1428: by Solseit (new)

Solseit | 1516 comments The thousand names is just one of the best first installments of a series - I hope there is going to be following because it is completely worth it!

Another series that you might want to consider is Powder Mage - unless you already read it!

I love both of these series :) Two different takes on "flintlock fantasy", but both so fun.

I'm up for it. I read this last year and want to move on to the rest of the trilogy but now I fear so much time has passed that I'd need to do a reread so that it's all fresh in my memory. Early in February would work best for me but I can make anything work.

I might end up jumping ship on Ruin actually... wasn't paying much attention to news at work and now I have a trainee cutting into my listening time...

Great! I don't have any BRs scheduled until Feb. 16th. Looking at your BR tracker, it looks like you're free until the 25th. How does a Feb. 5th start date sound?

That sucks about the trainee. I hate having one follow me around. It always just slows me down.

EchoBaz(Unofficial World's Fastest Reader) | 459 comments I know that this was done in July, but would anyone be interested in a buddy read with The Way of Kings in January? I wanna go through it reading about 5 chapters a day.

If not, I hope you find a great partner to read with. Cuz we are OFFICIALLY the world's slowest readers. Lots of fun though...esp that Dani Chil'

EchoBaz(Unofficial World's Fastest Reader) | 459 comments Thanks, yeah, I love Lina Inverse. Any idea what month are you gonna read it? Also, which month are you gonna read it?

And yeah, I'm actually a pretty fast reader, it's just that I wanna read other things at the same time.

Also, are you reading the first Mazalan book?

Oh @MorteTerror...sorry I just saw this...blahful Monday n yada yada

Re WoK Dani and I haven't decided...I checked to see her tracker/sked and there isn't one..cuz the gal...she is mysterious like dat...so @Dan hope you see this and can you pls let us know if Feb is ok for you? And you also Morte? I can do Feb 10-17.
Hey, how big a book can it be? We are slow readers so its perfect that you will be occupied with other reads. Give us the chance to catch up with you.

Re Malazan, yes, I am gonna be there for all the BoTF books. But more importantly, a huge bunch of very kool people are gonna be reading this together: the Queen of Olympus (Niki) + Stormblessed (Diana has these killer analyses of plot points) + Victor (he has this uhhh very visually funny sense of humour) and I hope Samir (the name means Zephyr in some languages and it suits, he don't talk much but when he does its pithy)...soooo Malazan is definitely gonna be FBR's flagship read of 2018. The biggest, best, funnest!
+the trek is gonna be personally led by Sauron hisself, which we're lucky xcuz these are creepy difficult and confunding books apparently and Grandpa Ingalls (Scott) knows all the ways.
+ Zen Master @Jaykro too has promised to stop by...I am very much of the Jaykro school of books and reading lists...so when Yoda talks, I'm usually listening. And agreeing.
+ the Holy Father and @Siobhan and @Ahdam are gonna be reading with us and nobody can ever feel left out or behind or stupid when those three are arnd. Tho' Iain and Siobhan try hard and pretend (but fail) to be all spit and guns...

Enough reasons for you to make the big commitment, Lina Morte? I really hope you decide to come. Plus, as you say, there's me...have you noticed how I like to talk? I write these essays. I'm impartial. I write to everyone xcuz I belong to the Iain school of human relations.

I see you went and signed up for Expanse. Pshawww! If you can handle two megaworlds at once, more power to you, gal...but me, I'm pushing Malazan. Although there seems to be this book that's about goats...wtf...at first, I thought it was a sadistically epic typo but no....there is a whole book that's abt glorified goats or something. What have I signed up for?? What am I pushing on the innocents?
:-O
Sorry this took so long, heh! I'm just like this...don't kill meeeeee...I want to read all the books with all of the people is why I keep falling behind...still, I'm happyyyy in my mess.

Or is it Za makes social gaffe time again...
Oh bloody hell...

You get used to "Zaara-ese" Morte... its chock full of chat abbreviations, semi-obscure references, and other various insanity... you kinda just accept you won't understand it all sometimes...

sked= schedule, xcuz= because (I think), I have a hard time keeping track of all her nicknames for me... they're constantly shifting since we shoot off so much around here... took me like 2 days to realize what "@800" was all about...

There's a Malazan Buddy Read starting in January 2018 and running through September 2020... we're reading a big book every 5-6 weeks, and whenever a short story comes up, we're doing it for a week and moving on to the next one... we're using the Ultimate Reading Order, and there are about 20 books and 8 short stories I think...

@Zaara: Not just goats... goats of GLORY... GLORious goats...

EchoBaz(Unofficial World's Fastest Reader) | 459 comments alright, it's fine, thanks.

And yeah, looked into Malazan, doesn't interest me.

When would be a good time to set up a The Way of Kings month?

Just throwing ideas out there, I'd say at least March... there are a lot of series/trilogies being started in January/February... by March some people will have probably bowed out of continuing onwards... just a guess tho... other than Zaara/Dan, I'm not sure who all still needs to read/re-read it... there's been a lot of excitement with Oathbringer coming out tomorrow... me and Veronica read WoK late in August and jumped on the September Buddy Read here and back at GG&G as well...
