Anyone interested in reading Arcanum Unbounded: The Cosmere Collection? Me and Veronica have been talking about reading at least parts of it before Oathbringer comes out... I was thinking October 8th or 15th... give people still reading Words of Radiance time to think about it and plenty of time before Oathbringer in November...
The included short stories & novellas:
"Edgedancer" (Stormlight Archive) -- Lift novella between Words of Radiance and Oathbringer
“The Hope of Elantris” (Elantris) -- spoils Elantris
“The Eleventh Metal” (Mistborn) -- can be read pretty much whenever (prequel about Kelsier)
“The Emperor’s Soul” (Elantris) -- set after Elantris, but no spoilers
“Allomancer Jak and the Pits of Eltania, Episodes 28 through 30” (Mistborn) -- best read after the current Wax & Wayne books
“White Sand” (excerpt; Taldain)
“Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell” (Threnody) -- standalone
“Sixth of Dusk” (First of the Sun) -- standalone
“Mistborn: Secret History” (Mistborn) -- best read after all the current Mistborn books (First Era and Wax & Wayne)
So is anybody interested?

I plan to read Edgedancer, which I haven't read yet. But I don't think I will get to most of the others beforehand. I've read all but one or two of them.
I edited Edgedancer into the list... oops... that WAS kind of the whole point of the timing and invite...
Would anyone be interested in reading the 'A Land Fit for Heroes' trilogy, starting with The Steel Remains? I read the first one a couple of years back, and I'd like to read all three. (Just a warning: it's very much grimdark and has plenty of swearing and a same sex relationship, so if any of those are a problem, you probably won't like these books.)
The Legion of Flame buddy read will start 10th November if anyone else wants to join Jenna, Virginia and myself.

Zaara and I would like to go for Abercrombie's First Law trilogy starting with The Blade Itself. Anybody interested in giving it a try with the 2 of us?

Sarah said she's in but is busy thru October. How does a November or Dec start date sound?
I think I'm in... only bad time for me is Oathbringer on November 14th... those are 6 day listens... as opposed to the usual 2 day shorter ones that are easy to work around...
Hi guys when would you like to start Abercrombie books? if it's October then I'll join. but in November I really want to do Tad Williams the war of the flowers.
I've already read blade itself but if your gonna read before they are hanged then I may join in for that
I on the other hand haven't read any, neither do I have any Abercrombie books but I'd be happy to buy the first on to try...alway on the look out for new authors/ books
Shaitarn wrote: "Would anyone be interested in reading the 'A Land Fit for Heroes' trilogy, starting with The Steel Remains? I don't have the books yet and I already committed to four reads from mid-Oct to end of Nov. I'm new at this is I don't wanna funk up.
So I'll order Book 1 now and we both can start Monday, Oct 2. Cool with you?
EDIT: Just ordered the book!
Martin wrote: "I on the other hand haven't read any, neither do I have any Abercrombie books but I'd be happy to buy the first on to try...alway on the look out for new authors/ books"Just ordered the box set...
Get the books, mate. And join us.
The one thing I missed while reading the first 3 GOT books this summer was people like these to talk abt them with.
Why didn't I find this group sooner?
There's also a six book bundle on Kindle/iBooks called The Collected Abercrombie if you wanna chk that out....it'll save you a buck.
ok no problem...i am happy to pop out to my local bookstore and pick up the first one...thats where I'd start if you are all happy to start with the first one and in October that is..

I'm in! Have all the books sitting on my shelf and have been waiting for a chance to start them :)
Woot! Our little group just doubled in size! The Zorping software works! It worrrrrkkkkssssss....Ok now I'm just being silly.
That's great Sean and Martin. :)Which date would be ok with you Martin? If you want October could it be after the 20th? I'm also in War of Flowers with you and I don't want you to change your mind about reading that either. :)
And what do you think about that date Sean and Zaara?
Cool! I'll roll with anything. You get to set the firm date (cuz you're definitely busier than me) and then we shall message Ye Mods.
NB- remember Sarah on the welcome thread? Said she's busy until very late in Oct.
So (summarising) I think almost kissing Halloween will be cool for all six of us. That's you, Iain, Martin, Sean, Sarah, and me. Ahdam says he will join for later books.
I'm cool with after October 20th - I don't have too much else lined up so I'm happy to go with whatever suits other people.
Only things I have on the plate in October are Throne of Jade BR on the 1st and Scorched Shadows releasing on the 17th... 20th onwards is great
That's fine... I'll probably start early as seems to be common here... I have 3 BRs November 1st... I'm sure some other people will, too... these are all the ones on the schedule:
11/01 - Black Powder War - Naomi Novik
11/01 - Blackwing - Ed McDonald
11/01 - Daughter of the Forest - Juliet Marillier
11/01 - The Dragon Reborn - Robert Jordan
11/01 - Ruin - John Gwynne

I read the First Law Trilogy a few years ago. I've been meaning to read the three standalones set after the trilogy's completion. So if you guys decide to read all 6 books (or 7, if you include last year's short story collection that was released) then I will join you post-trilogy.
Starting early in a BR is not really common. The whole point is reading the book at the same time so we can chat about it. It happened with The Stone Sky because of the availability/unavailability of the book but we generally try to start on the same day. - We do have cheaters of course who start a bit early (one for almost every BR 😁) who must content with the glares of the rest ...😡
I didn't mean I'd be starting weeks ahead... just a day or 2... I work nights anyway, so I listen to a few hours through the night and talk about it the next morning when I get home... common was me exaggerating... but I do usually see one early-starter in most threads I participate (not generally me)
I listen to my books, and only listen to one at a time... I might be reading another on my Kindle, but it tends to be lower priority during the work week...
Edit: 27th works great...

I don't see the problem in starting early, library holds come off early sometimes and if you wait then you lose your opportunity to read the book
Laura wrote: "Starting early in a BR is not really common. The whole point is reading the book at the same time so we can chat about it. I'm a pretty consistent 50-pages-a-day guy, which seems to put me at the slower end for this group. I have to start early if I'm going to finish around the same time as the majority of the BR. Otherwise I'll be the guy posting "how about that crazy ending, huh?!?" and everyone else has already moved on to other things.
I was just teasing Iain. The same way I was getting teased for wanting to start early in some of the previous BRs. No harm meant.

Sorry to just see this now. Timezones are a killer sometimes, lol
Late October should work for me!
Zaara wrote: "Shaitarn wrote: "Would anyone be interested in reading the 'A Land Fit for Heroes' trilogy, starting with The Steel Remains? Some time in November from say 14th onward would be better. Would around then work for you?
Martin wrote: "27 Is ok with me Laura hopefully will finish in time for War of Flowers 17 Nov I think it was"Hey Martin, it's not too big a book...500 odd pages, even if you read only 35 pages a day, which is slowish, you should be done at least a coupla days before Flowers. We'll get you there, mate. Don't you spaz abt the deadline, just have a read with us. We're a bunch of seriously cool people. We are also very modest. We guarantee a pleasurable reading experience. And did I mention we were modest?
;-)
@Sarah, hey...we counted you in.
@Andrew, don't worry, I've only been here a day and people are ususally pretty cool abt dropping in for a chat abt a book they've already finished. If you're thinking about joining us for the later books, I encourage you to. See, Laura and Iain have the most reading commitments on their slate, so I'm happy to let them set the pace but I'm absocertain many of us will be reading and posting more slowly + those two will TOTALLY drop in to chat with us...
27th guys, ok? Shall we beam the Bat Signal?

Everybody, we have a Mod-el launch!
no problem ill do it. good motivation and id love to discuss with you guys. 35 pgs per day is slow?....hmmm I guess I fit in some kind of new category then...lol... ps:: hey modesty is my middle name too!!! 😉
