Was just thinking the same... I need to sign up for the BR Tracker bus...

Nyssa | 1651 comments I created a sortable buddy & group reads shelf and I put the date/month in the notes.
I was also adding the books to my personal calendar, but that gets tedious; especially if you have to move titles around.

I miss the Master Buddy Reads list the mods used to keep up with for sure!

Narilka | 5674 comments Are we still following the guidance to set BRs for new releases one week after release so folks can obtain copies?

Some upcoming releases I'm interested:

Alecto the Ninth - expected release Oct 10
Sanderson's Secret Project books (Jan/Apr/Jul/Oct) - Maybe this should be a book club thread?
Defiant - expected release March 16
Magic Tides - announced release Jan 17
Starter Villain - expected release Jun 13

message 7406: by Monika (new)

Monika | 2309 comments Right... So... I bet I missed something on this list of mine :)
I have to catch up with:
In Death series
The Demon Cycle series
Wheel of Time series

Maybe finally find a time to read:
the blade itself (retired BR)
The rithmatist (retired BR)

I started Wizard's First Rule.

I will catch up soon with:
the lost metal

I should be on time with:
The Jasmine Throne
Strange the Dreamer

@Iain what else I was interested in reading?

message 7407: by Monika (new)

Monika | 2309 comments Hmmm I think I forgot about Lightbringer series by Brent Weeks :)

It's back in spreadsheet form!

And man, looking at all that's booked for 2023 already... I both don't want to add the the overwhelmingness of the new year rush, but also feel like I need to get in there and shout out out some titles before everyone is overbooked!

Oh, you know that I'll be there for Alecto when it comes out. I feel like that's a BR we can safely set up, yes? Assuming the release date stays the 10th, set for October 17th?

message 7410: by Mel (new)

Mel | 2360 comments Other titles I'd be happy to BR:

New Releases I'll be picking up:
Witch King May 30
Thornhedge August 15
System Collapse (Murderbot#7) November 2023
Dark Rise #2 by C. S. Pacat December 5

Other titles/series that have been waiting in the wings:
Leviathan Wakes (The Expanse)
Foundryside (Founder's Trilogy)
The Curse of Chalion (World of the Five Gods)

Oh also, T. Kingfisher's Illuminations was already released, but I haven't picked it up yet, so if anyone is interested in that one, it's a short standalone. :)

You think it's bad?... it's worse... I created the 2023 spreadsheet today, just so I had somewhere to write down all the BRs I'd signed up for, and it's like 10x as many as appear in that spreadsheet, since so many are series threads now, including the In Death Iron Man one...

I have like 200 Buddy Reads... and I haven't even plugged in new releases yet, that I want to read and will probably be Buddy Reads...

My only saving grace is that most of them are short... Sisters Grimm, Chronicles of Amber, the In Death mysteries, etc...

message 7413: by Monika (new)

Monika | 2309 comments When I think about them piles of yet unread books on my living room floor including few by Sarah J. Mass and Cassandra Clarke and Fonda Lee and .... I have more than 200 to read if to add few from netgalley I didn't catch up with yet... Geez...

Hells yes to both the Martha Wells books--and I've been wanting to read Foundryside series as well...

@Narilka--I'm down for Alecto, Defiant, and Starter Villain--and the Secret Projects. I think a book club thread is a great idea... I signed up for the kickstarter but don't know how long the boxes will take to ship...

@Monika--Rob & I started Lightbringer #2 yesterday, Choko is starting soon, I think. :) Still using the old thread.

Yikes! Surely those aren't all in FBR, are they!? I knew the invite thread was getting busy, but wow! I salute you, and good luck tackling the New Year rush!

message 7416: by Mel (last edited Dec 15, 2022 03:51PM) (new)

Mel | 2360 comments @Narilka I'll put in Alecto then for October 17th

@Nirkatze I'll put in Witch King for June 6th, and although System Collapse only says it'll be released sometime November, November 30th for that.

I figure if people are checking the Master List again, having a provisional date will let others know there is a BR on the horizon.

~50 in Death books, plus a dozen short stories
10 Chronicles of Amber
9 Sisters Grimm
5 Sun Eater + 2-5 short stories/anthologies
9 Laundry Files + 3 New Management
12 October Daye, presumably
9 Jack Nightingale books + a crazy amount of short stories (17)
6 Verity Kent mysteries
5 Dresden + 2 anthologies
5 Heartstrikers + 1 short story + 3 DFZ
4 Time Police + 1 short story + 1 St. Mary's
4 Manners & Monsters + epilogue novella + 3 prequel trilogy books
2 Children of Time
6 new SF/Fantasy releases, minimum (Kate Daniels, Mercy Thompson, InCryptid, October Daye, Starter Villain, Vlad Taltos, Unseen World)
4 new Thriller releases (Bosch, Orphan X, Gray Man, Joe Ledger Team)
5 new Mystery releases (Aaron Falk, Lady Sherlock, Tracy Crosswhite, Lady Darby, Alex Benedict)
Cycle of Arawn + Galand + Scour (3+6+3)
10 Malazan books, probably?...

So yea... all in this group... this is my main group / only group, anymore... but it's in a pretty wide range of genres...

And, the more I look at it, the more doable it seems, since so much is short books, short stories, etc... once I input page counts and stuff, I'll get a real feel for it...

I'll request threads for Defiant and Starter Villain for 1 week after their release dates. And go create a Book Club thread for the Secret Projects. I too bought the Year of Sanderson boxes lol Luckily they are emailing out the ebook and audio links ahead of the physical boxes :)

Edit: Requested Defiant for 3/23 and Starter Villain for 6/20.

The more automation the better... takes the pressure off the mods to constantly be editing the old master list thread... several attempts to revive it, since Margret stopped maintaining it, never really panned out...

Had the idea one day, and had it up and running in under 1hr of work...

@Mel, re: Foundryside--I might vote for mid-March--hoping to finish off Wheel of Time with Choko & Co through March--but any time after that is good too, even into summer.

Nirkatze | 20928 comments I just spent most of the day trying to make my very first BR tracker, and it looks like a fun and crazy roller coaster of a ride for books this year.

@Iain--double checking, Laundry Files is planned for Vagabond, right? Do we have a schedule yet?

I see Narilka put in a book club thread for the [Sanderson Secret Projects] already, sweet!

@JL & co--I went ahead and made a book club thread for Cycle of Arawn etc-- [Link Here]

Laundry Files is planned for 8th of each month, starting in January, I was just checking around before posting it, since things have gotten busy in the past 2 months... I'm going to make a series thread, same as everything else...

I'll do that later today, and then try and add some BR requests to the form, so that at least the first entry in each club is in the Buddy Read List...

There are so many clubs/series threads these days, that I might also just make a 3rd tab for Book Clubs, where I manually enter some data, to give people an idea of what is out there, waiting to be read... that probably won't auto-delete, tho, unless I make a 4th tab to query that...

Groan - I can’t possibly fit another book into January! I think I’m up to 6 or 7 (not including the In Death series).
So many book, so little time!!!

I’ve figured out a solution that’ll merge and sort BRs from Form and Book Club tab… just need to get home and work on it… and resuscitate Niki’s old “tell me about your Book Clubs” thread… this’ll mostly be for planned stuff, not murky/last minute stuff… and only the first book in each series thread will end up on the group bookshelf…

I’ve been trying to get everyone interested in a Laundry Files BR dor the past 6-9 months, over in the Vagabond thread… excited to see jt happening… the series seems rather dull and boring in the first book, but things start getting fun and crazy in the following books…explaining how crazy would spoil the fun of discovery…

Glad to see the enthusiasm for Martha Wells - hopefully we'll have a nice group going for the new releases. :)

Always glad to have a Kingfisher buddy!
Thornhedge I'll set up for August 22. Illuminations is short and light enough that I could fit it in whenever, even the January rush. Or would a Feb start be better? Jan 7? Feb 1?

And yeah, the New Year planning frenzy is a yearly thing. Which is unfortunate since I tend to be quite slumpish early in the year, and do more reading in summer and fall. But it does seem like the group is recovering from the COVID lull.

Actually, would you guys mind pushing this one back to May 1?

I'm really looking forward to this series, but I think having a bit of breathing room would help. Don't want any BR burnout for interfere, and I know by now that the New Year Rush usually triggers a Spring Slump.

@Mel, I have been eyeing the Leviathan Wakes (The Expanse) series ever since I watched the TV series. I am hoping the book is even better. I would start it this year. Also the Murderbot series looks promising from the description. I am going to see if I can squeeze it in. Never heard of that one. Also starter villain.
