Laura Tenfingers | 1132 comments Great list!!

I'm an incurable mood-reader so I hesitate to commit to anything too far into the future...but I'm pretty much always in the mood for grimdark.

Definitely want to read:

The Steel Remains
Swarm and Steel
The Dark that Comes Before
The Way of Shadows
The Iron King - I've read the first 3, would be happy to join for 4-7

Might join in for:

Cytonic I'm reading book 2 now
The Waking Fire
Snow Crash
A memory called empire
16 ways to defend a walled city - I'm reading Shadow now

EDIT: also book 9 of The Expanse

I'm overbooked this week... I'll consider joining on some of this list next week, once I feel less swamped...

message 6703: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Cradle series is great. I recommend reading the first two books to get a solid setup for characters & setting. =)

message 6704: by Rob (new)

Rob (nefariasbredd) | 2418 comments Ok, so far it likes Unsouled is a go with at least 4 people (Tammie, Brian, Chris, Niki) wanting to read it.

Why don't we set that as our first January read? January 1st or 2nd (I'm about a book/week reader these days depending on book-length/difficulty level, because, well, life!) And then if we like it we can schedule the rest of the series.

Way of Shadows - This I could start reading as soon as probably the 24th of this month. Shaitarn and Laura were interested. And if we like can schedule the rest from there if we like it. (perhaps oct/nov/dec)?

Cytonic - I'll probably be reading this regardless around the day it drops, but we're talking Sanderson/YA here, so I can't imagine it taking long to read. (Laura - Starsight isn't a good as the first book, but the end makes up for a lot).

I'll respond to more as we will in dates/people confirm they are ok with them.

message 6705: by Mel (new)

Mel | 2360 comments Rob, I have several on my TBR that I'm interested in.

Lord of the Silver Bow - been wanting to get to this one for a while, and I'm sure Margret would be happy to see the group reading this one together, so I definitely wouldn't want to miss out on a BR of this one

Red Rising - I BR-failed last time, and it has been sitting on my shelf for too long
Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City
A Memory Called Empire
Gideon the Ninth
She Who Became the Sun
Cytonic

message 6706: by Zaara (new)

Zaara | 4273 comments Rob, I'll join for Red Rising from Book 2 on and Niki's channel has me wanting to read Waking Fire.
Hailee and I were already planning to read Prince of Thorns and the rest of the Broken Empire starting in Feb.

message 6707: by Katie (new)

Katie K | 2600 comments Whoa! That's a lot of fantasy books Rob!! I'd love to join for a few BRs! Out of the ones on your list I'd be interested in :

Prince of Thorns
Hounded
Theft of Swords
The Black Prism
Red Rising

and of course Cytonic. I did some recent BRs this year with the Skyward series so I can't wait until the new release :D I know others from that BR would probably be interested too!

message 6708: by Shaitarn (new)

Shaitarn | 2185 comments Rob, any time is good for me. Just let me know when you want to start.

message 6709: by Beena (last edited Oct 15, 2021 02:25PM) (new)

Beena (beenz) | 2196 comments @Rob, Like Laura I'm also a massive mood reader hence why I don't generally join in these mass booking BRs months in advance (whilst I have a few picked out that I know I want to read, I don't generally have a plan and usually ask a few weeks/month before which works better for me).

Though I will say that I am potentially interested in:

The Black Prism
The Steel Remains- already said to Laura I'm up for a BR from the grimdark list she put up.
Ship of Magic- been quite a while since I've read Farseer/Hobb.

but was planning to start all of the above next year sometime- I want to wrap up the open series I've been reading this year, just feels cleaner and can start with a fresh slate. So if you do arrange BRs for them, I might join depending on dates and how I feel lol.

As Katie already said, about four of us have been buddy reading the Skyward series this year and we were all definitely up for reading Cytonic when it's out.

Also, just wanted to say that I really enjoyed Lord of the Silver Bow, that's a good one.

@Zaara, aaahhhh, I'm seen you posting about your Prince of Thorns & Broken Empire re-read!! So tempted to join you guys, it's one of my absolute faves, but I still remember far too much and want to try and forget as much as possible so it will be like reading it for the first time again. I need to keep control and still wait a few more years lol. But you are making me a bit jealous hahaha!

If you guys are continuing with Liveship Traders, it might finally give me the push to read books 2-3... I read Ship of Magic last year and never pushed on because of general burnout...

Great! I submitted requests to mods for Way of Shadows and Unsouled.

Thinking of putting Prince of Thorns in for mid-Feb as a request to the mods since you all already have that in mind!

Depending on how we handle Night Angel (one a month, bi-weekly or something) I'll squeeze in some other reads into November/December and start planning 2022. I

I figure the first week or second week of December will probably be Jade Legacy when that drops. Sounds like the people who have read the ARCs are loving it.

No worries... the existence of audio is what spurred me to want to read Manifest Delusions this summer, and I dragged Soo & Brian along with me after mentioning it and drawing interest... but so far, I'm not even sure if Swarm & Steel is in the audio pipeline or not...

So waiting for me isn't the best idea...

The Dragonbone Chair - Tad Williams (to start in Dec+)
Malice - John Gwynne (to start in Dec+)
Every Heart a Doorway - Seanan McGuire (to start within the next week or so)

Don't want to overcommit, but Tad Williams is an author I've been aware of for awhile and want to read... only stuff I've read so far is the first 2 Bobby Dollar books... UF series with angels and demons... might join...

I've re-read Every Heart a Doorway way too many times... short books, and a series I like... with a fair amount of connections between each book...

Think I forgot to check back for the audiobook of the 2021 release, tho... missed the BR because of audiobook delays... if you guys make it that far...

message 6743: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Dragonbone Chair was great. I still haven't been able to work my way to finish Bobby Dollar. Very different approaches for author's writing.

His cyberpunk series straddled the line between his fantasy work and cyberpunk/UF stuff. I enjoyed the fantasy work more.

I've tried to finish the 3rd book of the Bobby Dollar trilogy twice now, I think... I did a decent job of reading the first 2 in a short enough time period... but now I've kinda lost the thread of the story, which is only gonna make it harder to go back...

Monday the 15th works great for me on Every Heart a Doorway. I didn't realize it was under 200 pages. So many people love Seanan McGuire but I have only read her Incryptid series.

I'm a super fan... InCryptid is great for the Urban Fantasy aspects and the zany family and solid amount of plot for a Paranormal Romance series... and tons of free short stories on her website about the ancestors...

October Daye grew on me, after I tried the first book 2-3x... the series is solid by book 3, altho book 2 is much easier to get into than book 1, as well... probably my favorite McGuire series, now... so much continuity and payoff...

Every Heart a Doorway is a pretty fun portal fantasy that doesn't take long to read, each book...

And Middlegame is a pretty unique standalone with a sequel planned and a mildly connected book in the same world coming soon...
