Hi Robert, great to have you here. If you are proposing a buddy read for your own book, you are welcome to post in the self-promotions folder found here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
Thank you!

Thank you!

I'm thinking of working my way through Mark Lawrence's list of grimdark books...
https://mark---lawrence.blogspot.com/...
Few weeks late… me, Soo, and Brian just read that and Mirror’s Truth… I still need to read Swarm and Steel when audio comes, and his other trilogies…

Oh boo!!! Maybe I'll join in farther down the track then.
I just realized you mentioned Beyond Redemption and Mark Lawrence, not Beyond Redemption and the rest of Michael R. Fletcher's bibliography...

I'm hoping to like Fletcher enough to want to read the rest of his stuff too...if it's all dark anyway

I've never read any Mark Lawrence but long been on my list. I'd be interested in starting just about anywhere.

Both books had gross a plenty. That was well done. The story is told within a nightmare/dreams lens. That's the easiest way to explain it. Fletcher did a nice job of making unlikable characters that you don't end up hating or loving, but still interested to see what happens.
I don't think the books truly explored the ideas presented by the intro in Beyond Redemption. It felt like lots of ideas that were partially explored and put together.

Give me a shout for The Steel Remains next year!

I'm in for next year! Absolutely! 🙌
Yey! @Siobhan too!

Sorry Rob, my post wasn't very clear, my bad. Mark Lawrence posted a list of grimdark books by a variety of authors and I'm wanting to make my way down this list. It's here:
http://mark---lawrence.blogspot.com/2...
I've read some but not all of his books and will happily br the ones I haven't read and could definitely be talked into rereading the Prince of Thorns trilogy....so good.

Interesting, thanks Soo. I like dark and horrible with no moral compass. Not sure about gross, but we'll find out!

Ha, oops! That's a great list with a lot still on my own TBR (Looks like I've read only 23 of them). I'd certainly be in for Beyond Redemption too though. It's on my tbr as well.
Mark Lawrence is kinda known for his championing of indie authors I think? With things like SPFBO

Probably right after I finish The Wisdom of Crowds - so next week or the week after. My October is pretty clear I think. I think we pushed back Jade War back to October 15th.

I never did finish Low Town from all the way back, Laura. If you’re planning to read the whole list and want to give that a go anytime, I’m in.
Likewise for anything military or anything thief/con/rogue based: Black Company/Grim Company/Gutter Prayer etc.
Yea I too thought “Mark Lawrence” and wrote a whole big overexcited post…
Great list btw!!
EDIT: Also the Seb De Castell.

Happy to start anytime soonish.

I've actually read 29 of the books on the list... mostly in BRs around here... surprising, really, since I don't usually seek out grimdark... at the same time, tho, I've read more of the stuff at the bottom of the list than the top...
11 of the bottom 14 books... 5 of the top 14... interesting that I read the #1 grimdark book, tho...
I might selectively join one or two of these BRs, if you do them, and I can find audiobooks...

Great! I'll request it for 27 September. Should be done with Red Country by then.

I'm in for City of Stairs. Have the whole trilogy. When is soonish?

I haven't either. We'll have to get on that sometime.

Great trilogy... read it in April/May... some people complain about each book being samey plotwise (different MCs for each book... you meet all the MCs in the first book, books jump 5-10 years)... I didn't mind, tho... loved the characters... took a bit of time to grow on them in the first book...

Ooh considering I have Dune and The Eye of the World to read I probably shouldn't start this as well... but I'm very tempted... if you and Narilka end up reading this I'll try my best to join in

@Ten...deal!"
Oct 1 sounds great.

I'll join this one whenever ya'll decide. Which means I should check to see when the thread goes up, etc. lol

I'm looking forward to it. I've been meaning to do it since book 3 came out

I read the first book in 2015 and I guess I liked it - gave it 4 stars, but never made my way back to it. Might have to join/do a re-read or summary of book 1 and join at book 2.

Ian: Great!! 30th September is the date I had in mind to start if that works for you? I was planning to just request one thread for the entire trilogy unless you'd prefer separate ones?
Rob: happy to have you join us either in your reread or at book two if you decide to find a summary to refresh your memory of book 1.

That's nice! Yes, please do come.

Soo we needn't. There is already an old thread with a decent amount of chatter. Here it is. Shall we resurrect it and use it for the whole trilogy?? I'll just go and bump it. If y'all dont mind we can just bookmark this for Oct 1:

Looks like we're still waiting on the thread request to be set up! I started this morning. The prologue and first chapter practically ooze grimdark.

Thanks Niki, I think Laura already put the request a bit back into the google sheet.

I meant sidestep protocol and set up your thread if you need. I tried to get on my desktop to help but for some reason it won’t let me on the web browser. I’ll make myself a note to check back in tomorrow morning. And see to any other requests then too.
