Katie K | 2600 comments Another book haul mention. lol. So I have these wonderful books and was wondering if you would like to do a BR in the next few months. Would have to be after February unfortunately because I'm pretty booked. Literally. lol. Anyways. If anyone is interested in these let me know~ The Lies of Locke Lamora, Wizard of the Pigeons: The 35th Anniversary Illustrated Edition, The Summer Tree, Kings of the Wyld

message 6253: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Katie, come join us if you want. Try the sample of the audio and see if it perks your interest. Though, the book sample would be longer. =)

Good choices for the other BRs. Someone should take you up.

I'd be interested in buddy reading The Lies of Locke Lamora and Kings of the Wyld with you! I only have one buddy read going on in February but I've got nothing after that so I'm open to start them whenever~

Charlie (charlieridley) | 5750 comments Does anyone want to BR Wild Sign by Patricia Briggs or Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff when theyre released?

I was thinking of starting about a week after theyre released to give my preorders time to arrive so about 25th March for Wild Sign and 14th September for Empire of the Vampire.

Amazing thanks!

@Brian @Soo @ Jason Empire comes out on Sep 7th so I'll schedule the thread for the 14th.

message 6268: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 3613 comments Hmmm, I might be interested in Empire of the Vampire too. It's been a long time since I've read anything with vampires in it. If I can remember come September, that is...

Anni | 5066 comments Beena wrote: "I'll be starting Kings of Paradise within the next few days, if anyone's interested in a grimdark read :)"

Hmmm... You already started right? How dark is it? I'm reeeeally in the mood for something First law-like :D
I'm not at all convinced by the cover, but the audiobook is quite cheap. So if it's any good I think I'm in.

message 6272: by Beena (new)

Beena (beenz) | 2196 comments @Anni,

I'm only a couple of chapters in so far so I couldn't say where it lies on the darkness scale... the opening scene is pretty good though ;) Me toooo, I want it to be funny and nice and violent lol. Yeah I do think the cover misleads it, but it has some good ratings so fingers crossed...

I've put a request in starting tomorrow (sorry mods that it's so last minute, no worries if it appears at the end of the week or whatever). I'll let you know how it goes....

message 6273: by Katie (new)

Katie K | 2600 comments Awesome! Good to hear that you were planning on reading The Lies of Locke Lamora Beena! Yeah, why don't we try something in March? Gaea, Beena, Meera do you have any particular days in mind??

Gaea & Meera would you like to read Kings of the Wyld in March too? Or try to off balance with the other book? lol

message 6274: by Beena (new)

Beena (beenz) | 2196 comments How about 8th March for The Lies of Locke Lamora guys?

message 6275: by Beena (new)

Beena (beenz) | 2196 comments Anni, soz I just realised you said you'd be in if it's good lol, but I have to say I'm 11% in and I'm really enjoying it now. There's only one viewpoint that's been dark in tone, the rest reads like a normal epic story so far, with some swearing thrown in for good measure (naturally lol). I've just passed a significant point and I think this is where the darkness will truly come into it's own now... looking forward to it!

message 6276: by Meera (new)

Meera | 30 comments I am good with The Lies of Locke Lamora first half of March. I’m reading the new Patricia Briggs book later in that month so maybe another time for Kings of the Wylde? If most want in March, I’ll see if I can join in though.

@Meera No worries! We can push the Kings of the Wyld back then. I'm planning really far in advance, so it's okay lol

message 6291: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments We now have a Book Club for historical fiction at the Erstwhile Corner (Historical Fiction Jamboree).

Coming up on March 1st = The Game of Kings #1

Join Veronica & I into a trip to the past. =)

Game of Kings Blurb:
In this first book in the legendary Lymond Chronicles, Francis Crawford of Lymond, traitor, murderer, nobleman, returns to Scotland to redeem his reputation and save his home.

It is 1547 and Scotland has been humiliated by an English invasion and is threatened by machinations elsewhere beyond its borders, but it is still free. Paradoxically, her freedom may depend on a man who stands accused of treason. He is Francis Crawford of Lymond, a scapgrace nobleman of crooked felicities and murderous talents, posessed of a scholar's erudition and a tongue as wicked as a rapier. In The Game of Kings, this extraordinary antihero returns to the country that has outlawed him to redeem his reputations even at the risk of his life.
