I completely agree! I commit to a few but if I commit to too many I end up dropping out anyway because 'I don't feel like it' when the time comes round!

I normally look to try to commit to two buddy reads a month. The odd month it's been three, but I always end up having to pull out of one if it's that many. The thing I struggle with is actually reading a book a month in a series in a buddy read. It would probably be easier to stick to if I strictly read fantasy.

I find it's great to read along with others, as my friends here don't read the same books I read very often, so there's someone to read along with.

The other bonus I've found for me is that it's really helped me to start a couple of series I've been meaning to read for years.

I also think when I have to pull out of a buddy read, that I know there will be another time the book will be read in the group, so in the end I'll still get to read with others.

I like your idea though, of cutting back to one a month in July Niki. I might do that later in the year as well, so I can concentrate on some of the challenges I have signed up for this year and I really want to finish that A-Z Challenge in the Fantasy Book Club group.

OK, I;m old and confused. If book 1 is July 1, when do we start book 2?

message 554: by John (new)

John Compton | 163 comments Jarek, I'm in if that's OK. I like the idea of one every 2 - 2 1/2 months (if I followed the discussion above correctly). I read the first one a few years ago, and got confused at the end. The longer breaks will give me time to finish The First Law series, and both of Week's trilogies, as well as get back to Sanderson (I've been saving Words of Radiance, waiting for Oathbringer to come out). I am a little disappointed that Sanderson is now saying 2 - 3 years between books instead of just 2 years. I was OK if it ended when I was 76, but with the new forecast, someone may have to sit by my grave and read the final couple of books to me.

Jarek "the Mistborn" Dąbrowski (jarekthemistborn) | 408 comments Welcome aboard John:) well if iam not mistaken the second book should start on the third week of September. The first law was really good. Especially the character of glockta. Iam also a bit disappointed about the storm light taking longer between releases. I really love those books

I'm not trying to spoil this idea, but would it be easier if we agreed to read one every two months? So start book 1 at the beginning of July, book 2 at the beginning of September, book 3 at the beginning of November...

I'm not trying to be difficult, but if we have a six week break between books I know my terrible (lack of) maths skills will get me hopelessly confused about the date, so someone else will have to be super-efficient about posting the starting date of each one!

Jarek "the Mistborn" Dąbrowski (jarekthemistborn) | 408 comments Hey shaitarn. We're just going along with the majority on this. I already did the math :D and jenna created threads for each books starting date. Except the last cause its not yet possible to post for The year 2020:D

I am very interested, just trying to get a hand on a print copy as it doesn't seem to be available on Kindle. Only one of my local stores seems to have it in stock, but I may just grab it this week.

I put a hold at the library however I'm 28th on 3 copies so it's going to be a while. Don't wait for me but thanks for the heads up on this one.

Haha that's the worst, Scott. I don't know about your library, but I can only hold 5 titles at once, so when I click the button and there are 10+ people in front of me, it might as well say "hey! Thanks for holding this title! You ain't getting it for at least 6 months. Have a good day."

message 563: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) | 1229 comments There was one book I was just waiting for my library to order once. It a later book in a series ( I forget which). Every day I would check to see if they had so I could put it on hold. I luckily got like 3rd or something. A couple days later there were 20+ people total that had it on hold.

It's not available to buy where I am (Ireland) - must just be a licensing thing. I'll be happy having a physical copy though, it looks like something my wife and father-in-law will enjoy, so it'll get good use!

My library will let me hold 15, so I often have two or three on there for months at a time. I feel the waiting pain.

Wow! Good thing you were on the ball then haha. When it gets that many, I have to resist the temptation to just buy the thing. But I'm doing so well with my book buying moderation that I don't want to screw it up. The worst one was 86 people (new Sanderson). I bought the thing... good investment lol.

15? O_o Wow I could totally spare a few long-term hold with 15!! Haha that's awesome. What state are you from? Maybe I should move. BTW, I feel compelled to admit that I use my husband's account for an extra 5, but still...

Yeah..but here libraries have few original books. And what we have are classics. So i'm a big fan of the used books section of Amazon.

Okay, 5 is a lot better than 0. :) I used to buy everything when I worked full time as a bookseller, but now I'm stuck with hundreds of books I'm certain I'll never read.

I'm starting to sound like a sob story lol.

Yeah there seemed to be a few interested in TLtL. I'm hoping to pick it up today.

I just read Dune recently - I'd be happy to hop in on the discussion if you get a read going. I'm interested in reading the other 5 books in the main series as well at some point :)

Joanne Hello, I am new to the group. I am going to start Changelings by Anne McCaffrey. I hope someone will join me. I am new to Anne McCaffrey as well.

message 600: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments Hi Joanne. If you are new to McCaffrey I would recommend Dragonflight, Dragonquest and the White Dragon before anything else. That is her best trilogy and a wonderful read.
