Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Let me know when you want to read stuff and I can request a thread.

Narilka wrote: "I've been eyeing Forging Hephaestus for a potential Audible credit."

It's gone on sale before. You could wait for a sale or read it on KU.
I definitely bought it during one of the 2 for 1 credit sales.

Brian wrote: "Great list Soo. I’m down for most of those. Would also like to do John Gwynn’s first series starting with Malice. I own all the paperbacks and have been clogging my book shelf for two years."

Post for a series BR. =)
I stalled on #3 and I think I didn't go back because I wasn't a fan of the reviews for Ruin #3 or how it opened. I may join you for #3 on.

message 5902: by Mel (new)

Mel | 2360 comments Nice list, Soo! I have The Harp of Kings on my TBR as well, so I'd be up for reading that sometime next year.

I also keep a list of higher-priority Interested Books and Series to Read at the top of my tracker. So you can generally poke me with one of those and I'll be likely to hop on. :)

message 5903: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Melissa, I'll join you for The Queen's Thief series. My library has the books and I kinda forgot about the series until recently. =)

Let's setup a BR date for The Harp of Kings (series). I think it'll be good.

We should also wrap up the Raksura books. Still need to read #3 & 4.

I'd probably join most of the T. Kingfisher books. She is fun, popcorn reads.

Out of your series list, I loved Nighterunner, World of the Five Gods, Penric & Desdemona, & Green Rider. Those are great.

First three books of Red Rising are good. I'm waiting for the series to end before going back in. #4 was meh.

message 5904: by Paula (new)

Paula (paula7) | 1941 comments Brian, I would also like to read the faithful and the fallen

Melissa, I'm also up for reading the queen's thief

I'd join in on the smoke thieves as well as the ruin of kings. :)

message 5907: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Sounds good! Let me know potential dates you want to read them. Most of my reading is by audiobook and I tend to go through them fast but I enjoy chatting about the story regardless of reading speed. Spoilers are great for talking and yet keeping stuff on the down low. =)

message 5908: by Mel (new)

Mel | 2360 comments For The Harp of Kings, the 3rd book in the series is due out in September, so I was initially thinking of postponing it a while until August, but I realize that's a ways off. Do you have a preferred date?

Personally, I'd like to do The Queen's Thief books first, since the first 5 at least are available at my library without any holds. Soo and Paula, would you like to start those soon? Next month after the new year, perhaps?

message 5909: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments I'm good with starting The Queen's Thief books in January. The plan is to read the whole series? I'm assuming that it's a finished series.

My library has the books too. So I'm down to start in January and BR it all. =)

I don't mind waiting on the Harp of Kings. Though, I may read it if the mood swings that way. Either way, I'd join the BR and chat. Maybe re-read, etc.

message 5910: by Paula (new)

Paula (paula7) | 1941 comments could we read the queen's thief in February? I just don't think I'll have much time in january. or maybe read the first one and the rest on February if that's the plan

message 5911: by Mel (new)

Mel | 2360 comments Do you want to postpone scheduling Harp of Kings, then? If you feel like reading it earlier, give a shout out.

And yeah, unless Thief unexpectedly flops for me, I'd continue with the series. Would February 1st work for that one?

message 5912: by Paula (new)

Paula (paula7) | 1941 comments yeah, first is perfect

Plotting Buddy Reads =D

@Melissa:

The Harp of Kings #1 - How about we read this one in July? Give us some buffer room to read #1 & 2 before the latest release on #3.

@: Brian, Melissa, Paula:

The Thief #1 - Can we BR the first book in January? Middle of January and then plan to continue the series in February?

@Caroline: (Brian, let us know if you want to join any of these.)

Challenger Deep - January works for me. When do you want to read it in January?

Children of Earth and Sky - Do you want to plan for this one 2-3 weeks after Challenger Deep?

The Ruin of Kings #1 - I'd like to start this series first and if we like it, plan to read the rest. Book #4 will be out in May.

The Smoke Thieves #1 - I believe this is a completed trilogy. Do you want to read both series and alternate which book we're on or wait until we're almost done with A Chorus of Dragons to pick out a date to start this one?

message 5914: by Mel (new)

Mel | 2360 comments Soo, both of those work for me, as long as Paula and Brian are okay for the Thief.

message 5915: by Brian (new)

Brian | 1681 comments Yep. All looks good to me. I’ll join most of them. lain, I can start Blackhawks too next month if your in.

message 5916: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments OH yeah, we're talking about reading The Black Hawks #1 of Articles of Faith. Probably continue that series once we start.

Beginning of the year?

We need starting BR dates. I can put the requests in.

Hey Soo!

We could start "challenger deep" early in January - maybe between 1st and 7th?

Between 15th and 28th of January I'll be very busy (or should be because of upcoming exams) - so either before or after that time period would be fine for "children of earth and sky".

I'd prefer reading one series after the other instead of alternating them, if that's okay for you :) since the 4th book is going to be released in May, we could maybe start in April with the 1st or do you want to start sooner?

I'm realising that's pretty indecisive! I'm sorry ^^

Don't know the dates. But it's confirmed that the exams aren't in Feb. Early Feb would be a good time for me maybe around the 5th or 10th

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Confirming Buddy Read Dates

The Black Hawks - Brian & Iain Let's BR this one in Vagabond Treehouse. Start January 2nd, 2021. Sound good?

Challenger Deep - I'll request a thread & let's go with January 5th, 2021 for the Start Date.

The Thief - How about January 15th? We could use the same thread to talk about the whole series.

Children of Earth and Sky - February 2nd?

The Ruin of Kings - Start on March 29th? Give two weeks for each book. #4 will be out on May 11th.

The Smoke Thieves - June 3rd? 2 weeks per book and we'll be able to read the trilogy in June.

The Harp of Kings - July 21th? Do we want to use the same thread for the series or ask for separate threads? August 21 for #2. September 21st is the release date for #3.

I'm in for a re-read on Riyria for sure. Love those books

message 5932: by Narilka (new)

Narilka | 5685 comments Is everyone OK with the 22nd's for Riyria? And did you want to break it into 3 or 6 reads?

message 5933: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments We can do the 6 parts since you have those books. Do we want to have separate threads for each or just have a thread for the whole thing?

I'm good with whatever dates. I think I'm going to audiobook it this time. 1st time around, I read the books. =)

Hopefully, enough from the Age series has stuck and we can talk about them too. In how the stories are presented vs happened.

6 parts it is. Let's see if anyone else is interested. I was thinking separate threads if it will be a bigger group joining.

message 5936: by Soo (new)

Yeah, it's a better plan

message 5938: by Mel (new)

Mel | 2360 comments The Thief on January 15th is fine by me.

For the Harp of Kings, let's do 3 separate threads, since A Song of Flight will be a new release, in case anyone is interested in just that one.

I'll go ahead and request those.

message 5939: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Melissa, sounds good.

I put in the BR thread requests for:

- Challenger Deep 01/05/2021
- Children of Earth and Sky 02/02/2021
- The Ruin of Kings 03/29/2021
- The Smoke Thieves 06/03/2021

I may need a reminder to request threads for the series if we decide to use separate threads for each book, etc. =)

When are you planning to read it? I've had the book for a while but that story is a darker take and I figure it's a "mood" book for me. When I want a dark & violent story. Potentially no likable characters. lol

Preferably in the first quarter of 2021 (so anytime from January to April is fine)
I got this book over a year ago and I've never gotten around to read it although it sounds really interesting to me.

message 5950: by Rob (last edited Dec 29, 2020 12:08PM) (new)

Rob (nefariasbredd) | 2418 comments Some releases coming up this year I know I may want to drop what I'm doing and read and maybe a good idea to set up a buddy read for them!

The Desert Prince - Brett new series 3/4
The Two-Faced Queen - Martell book 2 - 3/23
The Galaxy, and the Ground Within - Chambers book 4 2/16/21
The Shadow of the Gods - new series by Gwynne 5/6
The Witness for the Dead - Addison - goblin emperor 2. (might need to reread the first one it has been a long time). 6/22
The Empire's Ruin - Staveley new series 7/6
The Wisdom of Crowds - Abercrombie - book3 9/16/21
Nowhere - Sanderson (Skyward 3) TBD 11/21?
The Jhistal - Esslemont new series - TBD?
The God is Not Willing - new Erikson Witness series. TBD? 2021?

Of course if the new Lynch, Rothfuss or Martin ever drop I will be in on those as well and doing rereads perhaps too.

I put together a list in google a week or so ago rambling through possible book plans. Let me know if interested in a Buddy Read.
Possible Reading Plans for 2021 Rob
