Katie K | 2600 comments @Saar I’ve always wanted to try the Dark Tower series! I might join you both in January. Any day works ^~^

I might join you, if I can find my copy of the first book. I know I have it somewhere!

message 5803: by Siobhan (new)

Siobhan (poi5ongirl) | 8702 comments I might be tempted to join Dark Tower too, time allowing :)
I read the Gunslinger and never continued!

message 5804: by Zack (new)

Zack | 1 comments Ok first time looking for a reading buddy.

I'm up for reading:
Rhythom of War (Stormlight Archive)
To Sleep in a Sea of Stars
Or something you recommend if you're a fan of Sanderson, Poalini, Sarah J. Maas, etc.

Hoping to make some friends out of it, as well. It turns out that changing jobs, moving halfway across the country, and a pandemic is an awful combo.

message 5805: by Katie (new)

Katie K | 2600 comments Welcome Zack! I’d be interested in reading “Sleep in a Sea of Stars” with you ^~^ I’m reading some books right now, but I’d be okay to start in December. What works for you?

message 5806: by Saksham (new)

Saksham | 47 comments Saar The Book owl wrote: "No problem, I'm a slow reader too ;) Which date would fit for you in January?"

Can we start in late December? Around 27 Dec maybe. I have my exams from 6 Jan - 13 Jan, so will probably catch a break in that period.

Siobhan wrote: "I might be tempted to join Dark Tower too, time allowing :)

Dear Siobhan, the books after Gunslinger run at the pace of a bullet, should surely at least read the second book. We may get to know when we finish the series, that why did King write a drawn-out first novel.

Let's do a BR! Narilka said she's getting the audio and I am too.

I'll probably re-read RP1 and dive into RP2.

Anyone else interested?

message 5824: by Chris (last edited Nov 27, 2020 09:28PM) (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2348 comments I need help finishing my Buddy Read goal in this group. I'm working on 2, with 1 lined up. I need 1 more. It'll be audio for me, so I have the following in my Audible library:

Norse Mythology - Neil Gaiman
Age of Myth - Michael J. Sullivan
Watership Down - Richard Adams
Gwendy's Button Box - Stephen King & Richard Chizmar
American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History - Chris Kyle
* The Dispatcher & Murder by Other Means - John Scalzi
Dead Moon - Peter Clines
A City Dreaming - Daniel Polansky
The Force - Don Winslow
* Ghost Road Blues - Jonathan Maberry
* Firefly: Big Damn Hero - James Lovegrove

* - included in Audible Plus subscription

I'll be looking to start something in the next few days. Might look at other options for last minute buddy reads.

Sure, that can work. I got it free awhile back and never got to it. So anytime when you're ready.

I'd considered those Hobb books to finish the series, but I need something I can actually finish in December lol

I highly recommend you reading the Dispatcher/Murder By Other Means and Dead Moon.

Hm, Iain may be interested in doing a re-read of Dead Moon with you. We all re-read/read the series earlier this year and it was great. Lots of things to link up and hypothetical what ifs to toss around.

I can do the Force. When do you want to read it? I bought it when it was on sale and haven't read it yet.

message 5829: by Chris (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2348 comments Thanks for the recs, Soo...

I've actually listened to The Dispatcher, just needed a reread before reading the second one..Liked it a bunch.

I have high hopes for Dead Moon too. I've read two by Clines that are loosely connected to DM, plus Ray Porter is one of my favorite narrators. He does a lot of Don Winslow..

Though doesn't do The Force, which is probably the only reason I haven't already gotten to it.

I could start The Force tomorrow (11/29). I only listen at 1.0 speed most times, so I don't fly through these. You could probably catch me easily if you weren't ready to start tomorrow..

I listed this as one on my shortlist above that I'm interested in starting soon. I'm actually planning to binge all six books in the series. I'll be starting no later than the first of the year..

I want to make another go at the series myself. I was planning on binging it, started, and then... 2020. I'd pick it up again from book 3 - Age of War

message 5834: by Chris (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2348 comments Hey Melissa...

I've actually read the 1st three books but it was a long time ago, as they were beta reads. To finish the series I need a reread, and Tim Gerard Reynolds makes that work out nicely with his narration.

Tentatively I think I'll start around December 15 on Age of Myth, giving maybe two weeks for each.

message 5835: by Mel (new)

Mel | 2360 comments I'd be down to join you in January and February then for 3-6.

message 5838: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Chris, do you want to request for an official thread or post in one of the Book Clubs for the Force? I hear that one is iconic for the genre. I'm keen to see if it holds up. =)

The Threshold books by Cline are all linked. Figuring out how they are was half the fun. =)

I've read them all by publication order but it's not necessary. A group of us did a re-read of most of the books earlier this year when Terminus #4 came out.

Parker series by Richard Stark is also on Audible Plus. I listened to the first one and it's very gritty. I can see why there are so many movies based off of it. Plan to listen to the rest at some point.

message 5839: by Chris (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2348 comments Soo, we can probably do it in the Book Clubs. Is there one for noir/crime?

If so, we could look into adding the Parker stuff too. I'll check those out.

message 5840: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments I think we can chat in the Mystery Book Club. We'll need to post that we're reading the Force and use spoiler tags to chat about it.

I'm currently on a Barbara Holloway spree. I should wrap that up in a day or so & join you for the Force. I listen at faster speeds so don't mind me. I'm good to chat as you go. =)
