Hello fello book worms;DI was wondering, just a wild idea I got during my ride to work this morning, would anyone be interested in doing a Complete Wheel of Time buddy read challenge thingy?:)

I picked up the entire series on the gorgeous new covers for €50 not too long ago, so I'm waiting for an opportunity to get a group going. I'm definitely in if we can get a few people on-board!
So there's the two of us. Well need a couple more at least . This would be a big challenge since the books are rather huge:D one per month or something like that
When are you thinking of starting it Jarek? I have all the book already. It will be a huge challenge indeed.
Well i dont know exactly. Just got the idea this morning:) I do know that i want to read the last book in the unhewn throne trilogy and wise mans fear before. Some time in june-july maybe? whatever would work best for everyone.
Yeah a start date in July should give enough time for people to get on-board and clear up schedules :)I'd be cool to leave 6 weeks in between the books, just to give time for a few books in between to break things up a bit.
The wheel of time is such a classic story I should really read. Depending on when you want to start (I would say later in the year), I am entirely on board! Lately I genuinely have timing problems to get any reads done... sigh!
I think thats a good idea Sean. Interchanging with other books will be good for not burning out on the series. Only id make it a month between books just to have a nice even numer;)
I wouldn't mind doing this I've been thinking about reading wheel of time series for awhile but with how many books there are it may be challenging so unless there's a date I may or may not be there for the whole series
So do you think a start date for July 1st for The The Eye of the World is good? Then the next books with a months break between them?
I'm up for starting then, but will need longer between books or I'll fall behind - it'll take me two weeks to read each one and then I think a two week break is too short. If others are reading faster that's no problem with me, I'm juat going with past reads. Hell, even two months apart would be a good idea! But I know plenty of people read faster than that.
I am good with the starting date. I am okay with 6 weeks break as well - I know it is a slower pace but I want to enjoy the books!
Well whatever suites the masses I say:) We dont want people rushing their reads also since it IS a huge story with manypovs and subplots. So maybe lets have a months time for each book starting on the 1st of whatever month and 2 months between books? Theres no rush
Petrik, ahdam, sean are we good for a start date July 1st?One book a month and six weeks between books? Thats about 20 months folks:D

I'll join if you don't mind; I've been looking at those books, taking up an entire shelf of a bookcase all on their own and thinking I should read them!
20 months?? What a journey. I think i can do with 1 book per month though. :DI'll do that i think if its okay with you guys
Jarek "the Mistborn" wrote: "Awesome:) Are you good with the start date and book/month, six week break system?:)"No problem - one a month is good!
That sounds like fun! I've been stalling on picking the series back up anyway. I'd also vote for a 6 week break between.
That would be brilliant enough time to read the book and get on with other stuff I really want to know what the fuss is about but I'm kind of sad I have no space whatsoever for the other books in the series on my shelf so I will be buying the ebooks instead (Only got EOTW as physical)Damn 2 years that is quite an investment I would have finished the series once I've graduated lol
Jarek "the Mistborn" wrote: "Guys my bad. My math sucks:D It will be more like 34 months:D"Wait seriously??? That's almost 3 years!! I can't delay it that long! XD
Oh well, i'll join the first BR and see what happens later on! :)
Great idea about reading WoT. I've already read them and it took me over a year to read all of them so I think I will pass on a re-read. There are just too many other things I want to read right now. But I will probably peek in on the discussion.
I read WoT within one year and loved it. I'll follow your discussion but will pass on the reread for now. My TBR list is soooooo full :(. Besides, I still haven't read Malazan and after all the good reviews you guys have been giving it I want to read the series ASAP. Got to buy the books first though...
Iam in for the long haul. I have a feeling it will do us good having the breaks. I've read that a lot of people burn out and are hungover from reading this one after another with no breaks. I think we could miss out on a lot of fun and things and reading would be a chore which would suck balls;)
I did the entire series in 7 months doing two books per months. The caveat being it was on audio. I also didn't do the prequel until much later.
I read a lot. But honestly Scott, I don't think I've met anyone who reads like you! You get through the books like a whirlwind!
I think you have to account for my audio book quantity. I did about 125 books last year, which BTW Marget, Emma and a few others completely torched my numbers, and I'd bet at least 50 of those were audio. So my numbers aren't that dramatic compared to some others.

I read the first one, but quit early in the second one. This felt a lot like Tolkien (let's travel on a long journey and see what happens along the way). But I would value your opinion (especially since Sanderson wrote the final 3 books).

The last three books were the best in the series. The next best were the first three. The books in between are all good but there's a few storylines that were utterly pointless and every time it returned to them I wanted to skip the chapter.
I think it's a series worthy of reading. I don't like it as much as Malazan or Stormlight Archive but would put it above Mistborn and some others.

I read a lot but that's because I don't talk to real people, or go on Facebook haha..
My mom told me I should join a "real book club"... I told her that there's people at book clubs so it's not my jam.
Ps who wants to read the Legion of Flame (draconis memoria #2) by Anthony Ryan when it releases in August? (Yes Niki I am voluntelling you)

If I like book one, I'll join for book two. :)

I am definitely going to read book 2! I loved the first - it is such an amazing book and I was not even expecting it to be so mind blowing!
Hi,I'm looking for buddies to read S. by Doug Dorst J. J. Abrams, also call S. Ship of Theseus.. Similar concept as in House of Leaves, with a different story. It's quite a thing and I'd like to be able to talk about it with buddies :) It's my first real paper book in ages after 100+ ebooks and I'm very much looking forward to it.
I hope I am right here and not annoying anybody with my request. This would actually be my first buddy read!
Cheers,
Stephan

I made my own book club so only people I like are invited :)
I want to read Legion of Flame in August.

Wow! I didn't know people plan their reading almost half a year in advance, that's a lot.
Haha half a year ain't nothing. We have a buddy read in the works for wheel of time that extends about 3 years lol.
Also, we're planning on August for that book because it comes out end of July.
Also also, the more you start signing up for buddy reads, the more you realize it requires hardcore planning so you don't get overbooked. I seem to be currently scheduled through July because I've signed up for so many. XD

I like to have the freedom of picking up books whenever I want. Sometimes I choose my next read only after I finish reading a book. I like my "reading schedule" flexible :)
I know exactly what you mean! As much as I enjoy buddy reads, they do take a little of the fun of spontaneity out of reading. That's precisely why I decided to sign up for only one a month after June (we will see how sell I stick to that haha). I like your pick as you go method. I do need a little structure or else I'll sit there after finishing a book and stare at my shelves for hours trying to decide what to read next haha. Indecision is my nemesis.
I've only been here for a week and I've seen so many people who overbook with different reads which is why I'm very careful when I do some BR's and only do it for the books that have my interest and if I've got the bookThe wheel of time may be my biggest read to do so can't wait to start it haha

I have a hard time just planning a month of reading. Too much planning takes the fun out of reading for me. I sign up for a buddy read here or there, but not too many.
