Just a reminder about a section in the Manual it seems a number of experienced librarians have forgotten about, although it's not a recent addition.

If the publisher does not provide a page number [for an ebook], you may estimate the page count using a tool such as Calibre's Count Pages plugin. Be sure to leave a librarian note that this is an estimate and that the page number should be changed if the publisher releases a specific page count.

I think I'd forgotten because I don't do ebooks myself and had no idea what this Calibre's Count Pages plugin was. I never came across it here either.

I'm guessing this is something the reader themselves must calculate, and let us know stating they have used this plugin?

Yes, or any equivalent tool or reasonable calculation. Here are some examples: http://www.fionaraven.com/estimate-yo...

Just be sure to indicate by Note that the page count is an estimate from [method] and should be replaced if there is an official count.

Gerd | 1050 comments I usually use the page count given by my Sony Reader app, didn't hear of Caliber's Count Pages plugin before.

Sandra | 31408 comments Rivka, are we still able to use page numbers from PDF's?

All my ebooks are still PDFs.

That section of the Manual is also still unchanged.

Sandra | 31408 comments Excellent.

Occasionally I come across librarians who remove my page numbers, I assume because they can't verify them, but they never ask where I've gotten the numbers from :(
