Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, I just saw the movie, "The Intouchables", recently, via a Netflix DVD. An unusual movie with strong characters. I keep wondering if the man who played the quadriplegic was really paralyzed. After seeing something like that, I can kick myself for ever complaining... but it doesn't stop me from complaining. :)

Anyway, IMO, the message of the movie was: to always make the best of a bad situation.

Nina | 6069 comments Joy, I felt the same way watching the heartbreaking saga of the fires in SO. CA and the floods in West Virginia. Some of my relatives live in WVA but there houses are up high enough to be spared the worst of it. I shouldn't complain for our lack of rain.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Nina, I don't know how people weather those tragedies. When my sister's husband (a school principle) died in his 40s leaving her with 9 kids from kindergarten thru high school, I asked the funeral director how she was managing to go through it all. I remember that he said to me: "She numb." I guess that's one of the ways people survive. Their minds just shut down until they're able to bear it.
