JackieR (readthat) | 93 comments I just watched the trailer..super creepy! Looks right up my alley! I have showtime so this one I am definitely going to check out.

Thanks for heads up!

message 3: by thalassic (new)

thalassic The first episode was creepy and atmospheric although some of the surprise twists were fairly obvious for anyone with some familiarity with Victorian horror and it seems a little bit too much like were trying to do a version of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen without being able to get the rights to it. Even so it was a lot of fun and I'm really looking forward to seeing more.

Domino Finn (dominofinn) | 21 comments Thanks for the heads up. I'll check it out. The cast looks great!

Tyhitia | 40 comments Thanks, J.B. I glossed over it because I just thought it was the movie of the same name. I didn't know there was a show with the same title. Have you seen the movie, Penny Dreadful? It's a part of the After Dark Horror films franchise.

message 6: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I have it on my Tivo. I just have to sit down and watch them. I'm trying to finish the Longmire first season that's due back at the library on the 24th.

Susan Stec (thegratefulundead) | 95 comments LOVE Penny Dreadful! Very freaky - very well done.

message 8: by Nicqui (new)

Nicqui | 35 comments I've been loving Penny Dreadful. It's my new Sunday night go-to, especially since OUAT is out for the season. I'm loving Josh Hartnett back on screen and Eva Green is just a joy to watch.

message 9: by Haven (new)

Haven (havencage) | 4 comments I too love Penny Dreadful. I love the underlying message that everyone had secrets and darkness. Awsome spin on classic stories!

Ohmigosh! Me too!

Of Butterflies & Books I am so in love with this show. This I feel a great example of Urban Fantasy. It's like a darker, sexier version of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. There has also been some chatter recently that Ethan may in fact be a werewolf. What do you guys think of that? Do you guys think that there is something to it or that it's just supposed to be a "red herring" for the audience?

message 12: by JackieR (new)

JackieR (readthat) | 93 comments I only saw the first one. I thought I would love this show, but had a hard time getting into it. I should probably watch a few more!

message 13: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) I'm loving this show. It's my new Sunday night crack. I'm so happy that it got renewed for a second season, and with ten episodes instead of 8 like this first season.

Eva Green totally sold me with that seance scene. Wow.

Anyone think Brona might end up as Caliban's mate?

Ray (warrior of randomness) XP | 14 comments I love the show.

Vannessa ives rocks. Eva green is an amazing actress

the vampires look really sinister. love that they r connecting with Egyptian culture and mythology

That's what I think about Brona.she could be the future Bride of Frankenstein

Ray (warrior of randomness) XP | 14 comments I loved it when van helsing and Frankenstein talked to each other.

I believe he is too - but that's just a guess. It could be, as you say, a red herring.

I have to admit ~ the show is dragging its feet somewhat. I've just finished Ep 6. Looks as though the next ep might be epic though.

This thread got me intrigued so I'm watching the series from the beginning on Sky Demand.

I've seen the first 3 episodes so far, so I'm a bit behind all of you but just wanted say thanks for drawing my attention to it!!

I'm glad you like it. The series is a bit different but very enjoyable. Eva Green is superb and season 2 is shaping up to be a blast.

J.B. wrote: "I'm not a big fan of the scenes with Dorian Gray, personally. His presence serves more as plot device to push Vanessa into her Linda Blair situation in episode 7. The last two episodes of the serie..."

Yes! That reveal was awesome, if a bit expected, but still so very awesome.

Nica Curt (nicacurt) | 4 comments Eva Green's acting sold me on this show. There is something about her performance that is captivating for me. And some of the writing in PD is simply spectacular.

message 20: by Ahnya (new)

Ahnya I watched 5 or 6 episodes, and thought it was dragging. Does it get any better?

message 21: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina | 5 comments I just started watching Penny Dreadful and I absolutely love it!! I just made it past the séance scene.

message 22: by Moria (new)

Moria Fainberg (mfainberg) | 5 comments We saw the whole first season and liked it. There were a couple of episodes that dragged but I think it's worth watching.

message 23: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina | 5 comments I am glad to hear that. I think I am going to put an episode on while I write :).
