Night Runner is a science fiction book that follows the main character and protagonist Zach Thompson. Zach has a very strange medical condition, he is allergic to the sun, and cannot digest whole foods. Because of his medical condition, Zach has spent his last 8 years in a medical institution, with his nurse Ophelia taking care of him. Things go astray when a strange man crashes a motorbike into the ward, warning Zach that someone is after him and he needs to run. The man then runs off, wearing bullet after bullet from cops, but somehow miraculously keeps running without a scratch. Questions are then raised in Zach's mind. He talks with his best friend Charlie, and together they try to decipher the situation. SHortly after these events Zach's uncle whom which he's never met shows up at the institution, and tell Zach that he is a vampire, and that his dead father, was a vampire hunter.
The pieces of Zach's life are finally starting to come together, but who can he trust? What part of it is really true? Together, alongside his close friends, Zach must unveil where the truth lies, and decide what they should do. One things for certain, vampires can't be in the sun, and they can't digest food. Could Zach really be a vampire?
I really enjoyed this vampire novel, as it made being a vampire a disease and it created theme of a battle against human nature. With many plot twists and the aspect of survival, sometimes at any cost, this novel was truly an enthralling read that adds depth to the vampire genre.
I would strongly recommend this book for teens, as the main characters are teens, and not only does it carry a theme of vampires, but love and teenage life and emotions. Overall quite a wonderful intriguing read.
