Ian Bott (iansbott) | 269 comments In a meeting room deep underground, realizing that someone among them is unwittingly carrying a bomb with a remote trigger, and figuring how to get it the heck out of there without tipping off the guy on the surface holding the trigger.

message 52: by Tanner (new)

Tanner Walling In my current WIP, I last left my character attempting to get to shelter as a tornado tears through the house they're vacationing in.

message 53: by Assaph (new)

Assaph Mehr | 11 comments A scene that I've just started, where my protagonist about to report to his current employer over dinner.

The food, even on such short notice, was superb as usual. I can only imagine that Cornelia’s cook was used to such impromptu feasts, and knew who to contact for fresh supplies. The spicy snails were particularly exceptional, I thought, while the squid in nettle sauce was an eye- and mouth-pleasing classic.

Yes, it's set in a variation of Ancient Rome, and Yes, I'm familiar with Apicius. Where do you think I get the recipes from? :-D

message 61: by D. (new)

D. Nunn | 1 comments In my current WIP, one of the characters, due to questionable judgement and too much to drink, finds herself pregnant at the age of 17 years old. She is under the thumb of a somewhat overbearing mother who, she fears, is going to force her to marry a man who is much older. He is not the father of her child. She is about to meet the man for the first time, a meeting her mother arranged.

Either that's a brilliant typo, or it's a forest with indoor plumbing, five star catering, limo service and the bears are regularly shampooed. That suggests a whole novel...

It's actually a Spamalot reference, but that's good too. I could go for some shampooed bears.

Thomas Everson (authorthomaseverson) | 424 comments Morgan is in a prison not unlike Guantanamo Bay, and she's on the receiving end of some less than savory interrogation tactics. This isn't where she pictured herself after ending a large chunk of the world with her idea of a zombie apocalypse.

General Truman is desperately seeking answers from Morgan on how to undo her mess that's claimed the North American continent and is threatening the rest of the world. He has the task of using enhanced interrogation techniques to get the info from her before the President puts him on the chopping block.

Tib is sulking with the elves, learning to be 'zen'. It's not working out well for him...

Azi was just whisked out of bed by Flitt, through the Half-Realm, into Kythshire where she is doing her best to defend her honor to her fairy friend, who doesn't believe she and Rian were just 'talking all night'.

More than a third of the way into the book. FleetCommander Paulu Guideran has just used the military assets at his disposal to impose martial law in the area of his home and family after being captured by, threatened by, and then escaping from the Ammarian Council and its Chief. He has ordered his forces to destroy any government unit or vehicle attempting to enter the area by force.

Koro Reva has to decide whether or not to leave Evangeline and his new life and return to the Empire he once ruled to head off a new resurgence by elements within the Empire that might perpetrate an attack on his new home.

The elderly Lord Rogart Brinkle is about to be taken into an unwanted protective custody by FleetCommander Guideran's men:

He shuffled over to the door, and spoke through it. “Who is it? I'm not expecting any visitors.”
“Open up! We need to talk to you.”
“Who's 'we'?”
“I'm Sergeant-at-Arms Morce, carrier guard-section chief for FleetCommander Guideran. I think you know him, Lord Brinkle.”
“My name is Bugley Fugley. You're at the wrong place. Ask the clerk downstairs, he'll tell you.”
“Open up, sir, we know who you are by the sound of your voice. FleetCommander Guideran briefed us thoroughly.”

I'm juggling three shorts right now, all of which I hope to have out in the next month. Here are what some of the characters are up to. But, I'm mixing characters from the three stories together.

Ben Starn Downing expired aspirin and cold coffee, counting the minutes until Christmas break starts.

Zac Couchester Walking around with wet pants after peeing himself when he realized zombies are real.

Tamatha Norris Suffering a lap burned by coffee, trying to outrun numerous vehicles, all of which seem to be trying to kill her - driving by... what are those things, anyway?

Naked Tomato Colored... Thing Driving his cab.

Pastor "Ace" Couchester Blowing away zombies in a nursing home with two double barreled sawed off shotguns.

Ambrosia Corazón-Reine Being a hermit in her little trailer in Mexico, drinking tequila, wearing bunny slippers... with her shotgun handy.

Victoria Samson Sweating up a storm, quoting Dante and waiting for the day to put this childish crap called high school behind her.

Immanuel Ristlike Learning to fire a M82 while taking crap for the gigantic pimple on his forehead.

Tall Gray Skinned... Thing... Dressed as a cop Cruising about in her squad car.

Principal Wilbert Lambihaus Walking around with a wet butt after an insane janitor swatted him with a mop.

Hallie Deighton (Hallie_Deighton) | 4 comments Dwayne, hearing you're juggling 3 shorts makes me feel better about being unable to choose which of my WIPs to concentrate on! If I plan to release all 3 at once I won't feel so guilty about switching between them.

Oh, and that's not even the half of it. I have dozens of shorts that are set aside for a while, at least three novels, a couple of memoirs, a book on my thoughts on a topic we're not allowed to talk about at SIA... yeah, I have a small library of stuff in various degrees of being done.

Do whatever works for you. I know some will say only work on one thing at a time and that's fine advice for some. But, some of us like a variety of projects to drift through.

And. If, like me, stories bug you until you get them on 'paper' you will have bits and chapters and short stories and novels and verse. It's the chaos of mind that I call creativity....

Thomas Everson (authorthomaseverson) | 424 comments Morgan has kidnapped a Marine, Sargent Reyes. She's experimenting on him with a special virus and now she's gone and got a dog involved to make sure this virus is transmittable...Morgan's a bad, bad woman.

message 87: by Heena (new)

Heena Patwa | 8 comments Hi,
I have just started the second book in my series 'The Starlite Heart.' Right now all my characters are going through major life changes.

Prince Neal is back in his home with a resolve to speak only truth. He starts by telling his mother that he never actually tried to commit suicide but made her believe it for sadistic reasons.

Queen Sia (of a different nation) is trying to make Sophia decline the proposal of marriage she received from Sia's brother in law, because Sia believes that Sophia belongs with Neal.

Sophia has recovered from her 'incident' at the end of first book and returned to her job. In the last chapter she stormed out of Sia's room because she can't understand her position on the marriage proposal.

message 89: by Rohvannyn (last edited Oct 17, 2016 01:40PM) (new)

Rohvannyn Shaw | 189 comments Awesome idea! I have three WIPs.

For "Rageth:"

Daphne is apprehensively navigating a fire stair, thinking the emergency sirens are loud and those lights make the air look uncomfortably like blood. She's really hoping she can figure out what's behind the horrible hauntings and terrified she won't be up to the task.

Tom is running through all his favorite heavy metal songs in his head, hoping to be as strong and brave inside as people seem to think he is. He's hoping not to let Daphne down.

Kristina is scared to death, following her friends up the stairs, wondering when the lights are going to go out again. She's also wondering what's going to happen when the meanest nurse of the hospital finds them.

For "Silverwings:"

Verity is hoping her master, Cyril, isn't too mad about her keeping the secret of the strange winged mare from him. She's also trying to keep the mare from kicking anybody or running off.

Cyril is trying to figure out how a winged mare can actually have strength enough to fly, considering she's not really built like a bird - he's doing it by touch and magical senses because he's blind.

Silverwings is sniffing everybody and deciding whether to bolt, take off, or try to get closer to that really tasty patch of clover. Ooh, that human's hands tickle but he's gentle. Her legs still hurt and she's still hungry.

For "The Blade of Fate:" (Sequel to the Dice of Fate)

Sanae is enjoying her time with her new love, and wondering what it's going to be like training as a Kiavel warrior. She also wonders if she'll ever see modern Earth again.

Tetsu-ko is worried. She hopes her odd but fascinating love, Sanae, will hold up during training. She knows the woman is still unfamiliar with these lands and will need to toughen quickly, but she smells war on the wind.

Khurriath is happily counting his gold, glad that his days as an adventuring dragon are over. Or are they?

Mrr'l is wondering what became of her people, the Nekojin, and thinking about where her adventures with Sanae are going to lead them next.

C.E. O'Grady Pearl is weeping at the wash basin. Benny’s blood won’t free itself from her dressing gown.

Baxter is blazing down dark roads is in his 1935 Bentley.

Vivian is pulling a client into her room, all the while eyeing the gold chain on his watch.

Mr. McPherson is changing his spats. Too much blood on the old pair.

Ian Bott (iansbott) | 269 comments Taking a breather now the first draft's done, but starting to glance nervously over their shoulders as I get out my editing machete.

message 95: by Missy (new)

Missy Sheldrake (missysheldrake) | 252 comments Tib is at the center of a festival celebrating the Awakening of a city that's been asleep for over 100 years. He's just realized someone has bewitched the city to stay in a state of celebration after the Awakening....but who? Why?

message 96: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 7 comments There's been a riot and the king is pissed off and the stableboy escaped on a pegasus. The King's sister has been forced into an arranged marriage and is miserable as the boy she really loves has been killed (or HAS he?!). So it's in the bleak stages right now, about to get better.

message 97: by Gisele (new)

Gisele Walko | 14 comments Ethan and Michelle are experiencing a 2nd pregnancy. She's 43 and he's 45. Ethan isvnot very happy about the blessed event.

message 98: by Zoltán (new)

Zoltán (witchhunter) | 267 comments Conley turns into a historical investigator, unfolding his own past and details about the witches behind history. Scarlet is joining in the background. Segmet wants her second chance, but not with others around to spoil her fun.

message 99: by Thomas (new)

Thomas Everson (authorthomaseverson) | 424 comments Sargent Reyes has just been unleashed as a zombie at the Great New York State Fair. What's more terrifying is that he's aware he's a zombie, but he can't do anything to control it.
