R. Billing (r_billing) | 228 comments I first ran across this thread on one on the NaNoWriMo boards. If you have a WIP tell us where your characters were when you last stopped writing.

Here's mine to start it off:

Jane: Flat on her back clamped to a steel table, but still very much in charge of the situation.
Matt: Next to Jane, acutely aware that pressing the button that clamped Jane to the table was a Bad Move.
Alexandra: In a cafe, unable to afford the food.
The retired Space Admiral, Godfrey Dereham: In his apartment on Homeworld, wondering what Jane has done.
Deep Space Controller (Rear Admiral) Spence: In Deep Space Control. Since he doesn't know what Jane has done he can't order her not to do it.
Lachlan: In the morgue, having been shot with a weapon that doesn't exist according to the logs.
Pat: At home with a bad hangover, wondering why she mad an idiot of herself.
Ian Sinclair: In space, wondering if he should open the letter that Jane told him not to open for two weeks.

Jane Jago | 888 comments Aaspa and Aascko: In the halls of heaven talking to some Archangels
Imps: At their lessons
Aaspen and Aasken: On their way to arrest Aascko's Father and drag him to face justice in chains
Owl, Cat and Moonflower: Minding the nest and tending Moonflower's wounds

message 3: by Joe (new)

Joe Jackson (shoelessauthor) Karian: lying in bed, holding her newborn daughter.

message 4: by Christina (new)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Current WIP:
Annabelle just accepted an invitation to pizza with the weird but attractive guy who had been stalking her, leaving her poor clueless ex in the hands of her psychotic doppelganger and only feeling slightly bad about it because free pizza trumps common sense.

message 5: by Elí (new)

Elí Freysson (eli_freysson) Queen Maraka is sitting in the bridge of a warship, blasting through space to finally retake the capital planet of her realm, fighting to retain royal composure in the face of strong emotions.

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 2491 comments Ah what an interesting thread and a great idea R.

Zhendar (a young LX from The Legacy series) is about to witness mass genocide without being allowed to prevent it. To make matters worse, he'll have to pretend it's the best show he's ever seen.

Tash, a Ksarrichis who has taken a liking to Zhendar, is sitting beside him. She is ready to use most of her credits to add torture to the massacre.

message 7: by Nathan (new)

Nathan Wall (goodreadscomnathanwall) | 37 comments My current WIP.

Skanda: On Tartarus where he was just sold off as a gladiator by his father Shiva to the highest bidder.

Anubis: On assignment to New Troy where he was tasked by his leader, and surrogate father, Shiva to retrieve the first abomination and kill anyone in his way. He's now wrestling with the fate of the old and young.

Trudy: Watching as the Vanir, Loki's flagship, makes the jump into rift-space. Currently reassigned to be Sigyn's handmaiden.

Hella: Sold off to Ogun as a concubine for bringing dishonor to Loki's house.

Oreios: Agreeing to infiltrate the games of the 10th cycle in order to raise a stronger army for Zeus and his conquest against Michael. Found out Jupiter and his house are still alive, wearing the armor of the Western Corner.

~x.X.Deadeye.X.x~ was just about to get a friend to fire an incorrectly inserted grappling hook ammo, that Deady was holding onto, out of a sniper rifle so that ~x.X.Deadeye.X.x~ himself could fire his own incorrectly inserted grappling hook ammo while flying through the air out of his own sniper rifle named 'Judy' and cross the impassible water area by hitting the buoy due to the longer firing distance.

He had to beat his rival that was thrown into a passing helicopter that he had reached due to exploding himself with red barrels. He was going to use his gliding suit to get across.

It really was both of their faults for not learning the true power of sharing and blowing up the rowboat with all of those grenades and mines!

... Yes, really.

Dylan Callens | 193 comments Carl Winston finally found his son only to find out that something has gone wrong. His son doesn't recognize him and thinks that Carl is a brutal murderer. The police are closing in on Carl, so he must say goodbye to his son. He is torn to shreds by the fact that his son doesn't recognizes him and he leaves in a blubbery mess, preparing to enter a cruel world as a wanted man.

Denae Christine (denaechristine) | 167 comments (This is awesome!)

Symon: racing after the slaver boat that stole his friends.
Lana: planning an impossible rescue mission all by herself.
Lana's sister and guard: both planning to help Lana even though she doesn't think she needs it.
Queen: dying from the poison she drank to save a prisoner.

Shannon Reber | 181 comments Ben-went to save Shayla only to find that his mom had been taken, so he has to rescue both of them.
Shayla-about to rescue herself because she's just cool like that. Also, save a friend from a big meany head.
And yeah, thinking about pizzas, tacos and doppelgangers now, thank you, Christina. 8-)

Melissa Jensen (kdragon) | 469 comments Well, Amrin finally found his sister, but by the time he reached her she'd been killed. He turned into a dragon and carried her away to bury her.

Eewren is still wandering unable to find his way to anywhere for reasons he doesn't understand, and currently unaware that his sister is dead and his brother is suffering again.

Why am I so mean to these people! Why!

My current WIP has multiple POVs, but this is where I last left one main character, Koro Reva:

But outside the snow was falling relentlessly, and being shut up inside, even with Eva, stirred up a restlessness within him. He needed exercise. He needed to get out and go.
He turned back into the room at the soft sound of Eva's bare feet. She stood now in the doorway to the bedchamber, watching him. Her robe was slightly open, revealing the duskiness of her skin, taut over her abdomen, and descending into the darkness of her thighs. The swells of her breasts were barely visible, half hidden under the robe, and her long and dark, golden-streaked hair, half in her face, completed the sense of the mysterious spell she had cast over him. Angel Golden-Hair.
Her eyes told him much. They looked at him in the same way they always had whenever he grew restless . . . as if she knew. They blended a combination of uneasiness, sadness, and resignation, all in one indefinable expression. He wanted to change the look into something happier, more assured. He went to her, slipped his hands under her robe, held them for a moment at her waist, and then began moving them in a gentle caress.
“I'm here to stay, Eva,” he said. “I'll never leave this place without you.”
She smiled slightly, as if she wanted to believe, but her eyes didn't change. He knew that these were mere words to her, and only time would prove their worth.

message 21: by Ian (new)

Ian Bott (iansbott) | 269 comments That is hard to answer because I write scenes back & forth from various parts of the book so "now" is a hard thing to pin down. As close as I can manage:

Shayla: stowaway on a battleship and infiltrating the kitchens ready to wreak merry havoc.
Brin (head of security): trying to stop the poisoned Imperial inspection team from being shipped off-planet where they will get bumped off for good.
Jared: Trapped underground wondering how to get past the alarm system set on the entrance of the tunnel he was exploring.

Hows that for random? :)

Lyra Shanti (lyrashanti) | 126 comments Well, I finished my Shiva XIV series, so they're all at peace... hopefully. lol

But I'm working on a new novel called The Artist, so...

Paul just finished writing a haunting adagio on piano while the sun crept through the curtains, giving him a false sense of security about his career and marriage. Little does he know how evil his author God above really is. ;)

Michael P. Dunn (wordboy1) | 86 comments Current WIP, "Raven"...

EarthGov Security Special Agent Maureen Rogers and her partner, Special Agent David Troy, are en route to a terrorist lair to rescue two kidnapped children. They've already been double-crossed by the terrorist leader, who goes by the name Raven, and Maureen is very concerned that she'll have to reveal to David that she's immortal, a fact she's managed to keep hidden from him for five years.

My current work in progress is called "Rave On".

I'm somewhere in my third rewrite.

Here goes:

Del Brewer: Out on a lovely evening with the girl of his dreams, wondering why she's so fascinated with American culture. Planning to take her to the field where Buddy Holly died.

Nadia Popescu: Slightly drunk and giddy. Listening to Roy Orbison and thrilled at getting to see people line dancing in a steak house.

Bill Brewer aka Daddy: Time traveling again.

Sybil Brewer aka Mama: Wondering where the hell Del is this time.

Lamar Kennedy: Drinking beer, watching baseball on TV.

Apryl Kennedy: Worrying that she may have to shut down her restaurant, thanks to the new steakhouse taking all her customers away.

Officer Barry Bigguns: Cruising and hoping to catch Del Brewer doing something illegal.

Ronnie Bigguns: Getting drunk at a party.

Wadim Lupei: Probably standing guard outside the place he lives.

Elisabeta Lupei: Combing her beard.

the dumb unnamed Skye Terrier: Chasing rats in the barn.

S.J. Higgins | 173 comments All mine are at the same hospital but for different reasons.
Skyla: In a hospital bed after being rescued from being tortured.
Trent: Is undergoing tests to determine the effects of being injected with a mind-altering serum for 7 weeks.
Jensen: In the hospital boardroom getting reamed by Skyla's father for going off half-cocked and botching the rescue mission.
Tank: Standing guard over Skyla so evil bad guy can't get to her again.

Magnus Stanke (magnus_stanke) | 179 comments I'm working on my second retro-thriller at the moment. Like the first book, it's set in the recent-ish past - 70's, 80's and 90's. While I'm making my way slowly but surely through the second draft I've got one guy in a room lock-up (albeit volutarily so), another one in a wheelchair, the lady of the house is plotting her escape from the small town restrictions and the main villain, well, he's preparing his next perfect murder...

message 33: by J.D. (new)

J.D. Cunegan (jdcunegan) | 240 comments Man, this is inching close to spoiler territory, lol.

Well, near the midway point of my current manuscript...

Jill: Isolated from everyone she cares about and on the run.
Ramon: On the outs with Jill, preparing for his wedding to Jorge.
Captain Richards: Giving a giant middle finger to... well, pretty much everyone.
David Gregor: On his way to Paris. Because... reasons.
Det. Stevens: Trying to solve a murder.
Det. Watson: Trying to solve a murder and not piss off his partner.
Det. Blankenship: Trying to solve a murder and being pissed at her partner.
Juanita: Cutting open yet another dead body.
Brian: Pissed at his sister (again), trying to decide if he wants to run for the vacant DA position.

M. Ray Holloway Jr. (mrayhollowayjr) | 180 comments Mine are in one of two places.
Captain Johns: Back on his jumpship, "The Dreamer's Fortune".
Loran Evandell: On the planet Darol Tor, teaching children.
Rascal MacLagain: Back on the ship, in the navigator's seat.
Lee MacLagain: Back on the ship, piloting.
Most of the others are serving in different capacities on Darol Tor.

J.J. Mainor Michael Greenburg just arrived at the lab where he's dissatisfied to find his research assistant , Jessica, getting a little to friendly with his partner's research assistant, Huritt. The cultural differences force him to keep his mouth shut, so he focuses on his son, Cole, instead, seeking out the project manager, Arank, to ask that they keep the younger Greenburg away from the lab.

I had just switched to a new day, so I haven't showcased Cole yet, but he is still back in his apartment sleeping the day away

M. Ray Holloway Jr. (mrayhollowayjr) | 180 comments In my next WIP, which I have begun outlining:

Annie Arcane (anniearcane) | 629 comments Cale's sitting in the shower, since he can't stand and all *smirks*
Mickey is royally pissed at him with very good reason...
I may have been slightly preoccupied. And quite possibly drooling on myself. Just a tad.

Because she entered the bathroom and slowly, so slowly that I almost crawled over to help her, reached behind to unzip her dress. Letting the garment slide to the floor, she stepped out of it and walked towards me. Topless. With her itty bitty panties still on.

Shit.

Right into the steam-filled shower.

Holy shit.
Hugs,
Ann

D. Thrush | 187 comments At a low point. Doing drugs. Everything is about to change.

message 50: by Annie (new)

Annie Arcane (anniearcane) | 629 comments The shower scene continues...

Stopping to stand in front of me, the hardened glint in her onyx eyes made my chest constrict into a debilitating knot.

“I’m sorry,” the hoarse apology tumbled from my lips before I realized what I was saying. Before I realized that I was even speaking at all.

She said nothing. Simply stared me down for what seemed like a f*cking eternity.

I continued on, the words barely managing to scrape past my throat, “I should never have said that to you.”

Another eternity passed by - taking the remaining years of my life expectancy right along with it - before she finally looked away and reached for the bottle of shampoo.

I swear to God, I thought for sure she was going to clobber me to death with the damn thing. Because I sure as hell deserved it.

Okay, I'm stopping now. I promise!! Pleeease don't kick me outta the club!!! XD

Hugs,
Ann
