Tribal Demagogue | 77 comments @Yusra If your characters just sprang forth from nowhere, then that's the best kind of story! :)
I'm glad you wrote outside of your comfort zone. It makes you a versatile writer. Lemme read your story now and give you my humble opinion on a thing or two.

So you people are really struggling with fantasy theme, where are all the people who voted for it :p. If you people feeling like if you need some extra time let us know, the schedule can be reconsidered. we would like to have maximum participation.

and don't worry too much about setting up back stories/lore of each n every element and character, you can have it for yourself but don't put it in the story. It is just short story. Just focus on the story itself, it could be a small lore from a fantasy world that you have in your mind. Just describe the elements, no need to go into whys and hows. be it ice breathing dragons, flying dolphins, choco fountains...

@rao, like I said before, world limit is flexible. Try to stay close to limit, as much as possible. If it exceeds the word limit, no worries, just try to avoid unnecessary additions. :)

Rao Javed | 713 comments Finally submitted it...I hope it goes fine.

message 109: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 30, 2016 10:07AM) (new)

Faheem, I'll try to submit my story by midnight.. but can you extend it by 18 hours? I wrote about 800 words last week and was planning to finish it this weekend. But I don't really like what I wrote and I want to start fresh. I've been writing content related to real estate all week :p so I didn't have any time or energy for this competition.. but I will submit it asap

Edit: I can't finish it tonight. I plan to send it by 3 or 4 tomorrow noon. Hope that can be accommodated.

message 110: by Tribal (new)

Tribal Demagogue | 77 comments I was looking forward to read stories by midnight today but it seems popular opinion is coming in the way of that. I might have to submit a third story to kill time, if the mods decide to push the deadline.

Alright, we'll extend the deadline by another day. So you can submit the story till 23:59, July 31.

@ozair, keep working, I'll discuss with other mods, if we can extend it by another day or two. :)

@Ozair haha!! i had papers!! now i am free :P

message 115: by Danish (new)

Danish Khan | 31 comments @Rao I am. Full-time would be an overstatement for a beginner though, professional is more of an accurate description.

message 116: by Rao (new)

Rao Javed | 713 comments Danish wrote: "@Rao I am. Full-time would be an overstatement for a beginner though, professional is more of an accurate description."

Ya right, well said. So do you write fiction or non-fiction?

message 117: by Danish (new)

Danish Khan | 31 comments Fiction. I am (or should I say was) a filmmaker basically. Have worked at Six Sigma Productions in their feature film "Main Hoon Shahid Afridi" as second assistant director. Have a couple of shorts of mine too. So ya, fiction is my thing. :)

message 118: by [deleted user] (new)

@Faheem, thanks for extending the deadline :)

@Danish, that's pretty impressive! I was trying to find details of your contribution to the movie 'main hoon shahid afridi' but I couldn't find any reference to your role in it, apart from your own claim that you were part of the movie. I couldn't find your name on the imdb page or on the official website for the movie itself (which doesn't exist anymore, so I checked out older versions of the site). So you worked for Six Sigma and the movie in an unofficial capacity?

message 119: by Danish (new)

Danish Khan | 31 comments That's very concerning of you Asad :). I have no reason to make that up for myself. Anyways, Yes I'm not credited (instead of the word 'unofficial') because I left the movie in between. And by the way you don't find second ADs or Second Unit staff contributions on IMDb fyi. Lemme give you a link to some stuff I did more than half a decade ago and you decide if I'm lying about my craft or whatever :)
https://vimeo.com/24342538

By the way, your diving deep into my history to confirm whether I told the truth or not would've made more 'sense' if I was applying for 'benefit' of some sort with that. Right now you just sounded weird and spooky and all :).

message 120: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 30, 2016 02:42PM) (new)

Lol relax. I didn't 'dive deep' into anything :p I just googled for 2 minutes, that's all. Where did I say that you were lying? Relax bro, no reason to be so defensive :)

I will check out your silent movie :)

Edit: btw, fyi, all movies on imdb have second ADs listed in the cast and crew section. Plenty of Pakistani movies have second unit staff listed on their imdb pages. I guess main hoon shahif afridi movie people weren't so concerned with their imdb page or their official website, that's all.

message 121: by Danish (new)

Danish Khan | 31 comments I am totally relax, I was just weirded by your sentence "apart from your own claim that you were part of the movie". By the way just to ward off the weird sentence, I give you more of a shock and that is that I was hired as a director for a feature film too. Beat that lol. I have a certificate of that just so if you want, I'll send you the soft copy of it if you like lol

message 122: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 30, 2016 02:53PM) (new)

hahahaha duuude relaaaax! Why are you being so defensive for no reason? Which film are you directing btw? Congrats :) If you want, you can paste the picture of that certificate on this thread :) (not that I doubt you lol)

And I can't beat that lol. My achievements are written stuff. I'm no good at movies and videos :)

message 123: by Danish (new)

Danish Khan | 31 comments Now its me making thing more weird lol. The reason you see my claims and not a product is because at that very time I had a shift of conscience, morals or whatever you call it because I became more of a practicing Muslim. That's why I am turning to writing now. Here, all told :) I'm all stripped naked just because of your curiosity LOL.

message 124: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol, no worries :)

What was morally wrong with movies? You mean that because pictures/photos and music is banned in islam?

message 125: by [deleted user] (new)

Btw, I would genuinely like to know which feature film you directed. That is a big achievement!

message 126: by Danish (new)

Danish Khan | 31 comments No, It was the industry actually. I would watch women wiping their tears during auditions because of what producers would ask them to do or would actually touch them to 'instruct' and all that. I wasn't going for that. It's wrong to say that I left filmmaking, I never did actually, I left the industry. I would anytime, and actually will continue making movies. Just away from branding and advertising women and all.

message 127: by Danish (new)

Danish Khan | 31 comments I was hired for it. Did all the pre-production. Quit right after that.

message 128: by Tribal (new)

Tribal Demagogue | 77 comments Well that escalated quickly!

message 129: by Tribal (new)

Tribal Demagogue | 77 comments That's very cool, Danish. You're a true artist. An old friend of mine is also directing a movie. He's very hush hush about it so I suppose I'll have to wait till it's released.

On a different note, I would've left the industry too. Women shouldn't wipe their tears in public. It's immoral. Whatever happened to good old days when they stayed indoors and protected men's honour?

message 130: by Danish (new)

Danish Khan | 31 comments I personally prefer that too Tribal. But that being said, I'm not particularly against the idea of women going out, but there should be a dignified reason and dignified way of doing it.

message 131: by Danish (new)

Danish Khan | 31 comments And I would very respectfully disagree with the 'honor of men in the women' concept here Tribal. I just don't think women have a responsibility of protecting MEN's honor, men must protect it themselves. Women have to protect their own which is a lot harder than men protecting theirs. Islam came as finalizing and perfecting the human civilization and therefore it asks us our motives of doing things, then it lets us do most of things and stops us from a few and puts boundaries and limits over the rest. A person who can do that is what I call a truly civilized person.

message 132: by Tribal (new)

Tribal Demagogue | 77 comments I understand. I think you're right. They should stay indoors to protect their honour, instead of protecting the men's, but they're both more or less intertwined. The world is a terrible place and they're subjected to abuse and villainy, once outside the sacred walls of their homes. Actresses have no place acting in today's world. To be honest, I think I'd rather see Brad Pitt in the role of Mother Teresa than, say, Meryl Streep.

message 133: by [deleted user] (new)

Danish, if women don't have to protect mens honor, then how exactly is it harder for them to protect their honor?

What exactly is a dignified reason or way of going out? Can't a woman go out for no special reason? I'm confused.

Tribal, I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or sincere.

message 134: by Tribal (new)

Tribal Demagogue | 77 comments Hahahahaha. Sorry, I sometimes can't resist trolling.

message 135: by [deleted user] (new)

Lmao... :P I knew it, with your Brad Pitt as Mother Teresa comment lmao

message 136: by Tribal (new)

Tribal Demagogue | 77 comments Lmao. "Women shouldn't wipe their tears in public. Its immoral."

message 137: by Danish (new)

message 138: by Tribal (new)

Maira, I just sent my story to Faheem and you. I finished it a bit late. It's not really as good as I hoped it would be. Truth be told... I started writing it at 11:15... was having some family issues before so I didn't write at all this entire weekend. I just made up the story as I wrote it... didn't even proofread it properly. But it felt good to write fiction after so long and I guess that's what matters.
