S.J. Wilkins | 7 comments I really loved reading Dean Hughes' Children of the Promise series. His attention to historical detail is really great and the characters are believable and varied. I found it validating to read a novel that understands the experience of being LDS--even if we were separated by several decades--and at the same time creates an alternative world that still feels familiar.

What do you think? What have been your favourite LDS reads? And why?

Cathy | 3 comments I also read Children of the Promise. I love that series. That is where I became interested in the Bataan Death March. I cried through them. Sometimes I had to put the books down to regain my composure. They definitely are worth the read. I also like The Work and the Glory. And even though it is not a series I liked "The Undaunted". Oh so many good LDS fiction and historical fiction.

Nanci | 1 comments I really liked Family by Design Family by Design by Heather Justesen Fun romance that just really connected with me. I like The Saint Squad books by Abramson. A little romance, a little mystery and suspense.
I like it best when a book can be read and finished in one book. I get very annoyed with the books that seem to just drag on and on so they can get more books out of the story.
The book Added Upon by Nephi Anderson is the first LDS novel I read when I was a teen and that will always have a special place in my heart.

Jennie | 13 comments In the twelve years I've been writing reviews of LDS novels for Meridian Magazine, I've read so many good books I can't begin to name them all.

Hi Jennie,

Yes, I guess it is hard to narrow it down. Maybe I should revise the question a bit and rephrase it thus: What have been your favourite aspects of LDS novels? And why? I suppose I'd still come back to Dean Hughes, but this time because I love the way he manages the historical LDS cultural perspectives. Away from pure fiction, I love The Peacegiver for the way it creates transformation through empathy. It's clever and profoundly effective.

Seth

Erin I love any book by Rachael Anderson. Her books are funny and super entertaining!! Melanie Jacobson is really good too. I suggest all of their books! (If you're a romance lover like me..)
