She looked at him. She wasn't old enough. She had to get approval first. She was in so much pain from him hitting her in the head. She let out a loud moan in pain. She took a deep breath. She looked around in at this place. "Wait don't leave me here alone." She exclaimed. She huffed some. She will find away out of this place. She looked at the window to see it locked. She tugged her hair that a bobby pin. She smiled and went to it and picked the locked figuring it would be to easy but an alarm. She was upset. She stomped her foot upset. He sat in his car. Crying. He promised not to do it again. He took the knife and ran it down his arm. He squeezed his eyes shut as the blood went down his arm. He put some ace wrap around his arm to stop the blood. He took a shaky breath. He was hurting so much right now. He didn't have her anymore.
Oliver heard the alarm and huffed a sigh. There was no way he would find his next target if this girl kept up with these antics. He needed some research done, not to babysit someone who almost got him arrested. He went back into the room and shut the alarm off before locking the window again. "Really?" He asked, exasperated. "You are going to hurt yourself, we are on the second floor and you have a pounding headache." He took the bobby pin from her hands and sat her down on the bed and began delicately going through her hair to see if she had anymore.Harlow took a shaky breath. She felt like crying. She didn't remember anything that had turned her into the girl who owned this room. That Harlow seemed so mature, so perfect, so happy. Things that at fifteen, Harlow had not been. And now all she could remember was being fifteen. Instead of crying, Harlow decided she needed to find out more about herself. What she was like. What made her into this stranger she was seeing now. She pulled out her phone and swiped in the passcode. It was wrong. "Damn it." She muttered and began to think. What would she change her passcode to? Out of habit she decided that Cress would know and went to text her. Harlow stopped when she realized what she had done. She had remembered the passcode of her phone. Harlow tried calling Cress, but it went straight to voicemail. So she called the person who knew her second best. Daniel.
She was struggling through his gripped. "I don't care." She told him. She winced at the pain in her head. She eyed him. He had no right to do this. "Let me go." She said. She was siting there with him going through her hair. She sat there relaxing a bit. "Stop." She shouted. She looked at him. "Your having a hard time finding a place to steal from?" She smiled. "Why not steal the from the new Egyptian blood diamond at the new exhibit." She said she looked at him. "They also have a diamond necklace and tiara that Cleopatra wore." She said she looked down at some. She should of shut her trapped. She heard her phone go off. Her cousin. She couldn't answer it. She grabbed her phone knowing he will take it.He saw his phone vibrate. He saw who it was. He took a deep shaky breath. He answered the phone and was hoping it wasn't obvious in pain. "Yes." He asked. He prayed she couldn't notice the pain and remember why he did it. He closed his eyes and squeezed them in pain. He still had the knife about to the cut he other arm. He didn't care any more. He lost her.
Oliver quickly took her phone and switched it off before putting it into one of his pockets without saying a word. Once he was satisfied that there weren't any bobby pins left in her hair, he brushed her hair out of her face and looked at her. "You're right. I could steal that, but that would mean I couldn't let you go because you would go along and tattle to the cops again about my plans." He said this calmly, his face was unreadable as he spoke."What do you like about me?" Harlow blurted out as soon as she heard Daniel answer. Then her face turned bright red and she buried her face into her hands. "I mean, what am I like?" She clenched and unclenched her teeth trying to think of words to form what she was trying to say. "I just... I don't remember anything about myself..." Harlow hated how weak she was sounding as she spoke and silently cursed herself. "Like, why the hell am I taking classes online? Why would I major in business? I haven't spoken to my real father in six years so why do I have a birthday card from him from my seventeenth birthday? Why does everything seem so... strange?"
She looked at her phone. "Please give it back it was cousin she was in a bad accident and I just want to make sure she was ok." She looked at him. He was being unreasonable. She sighed some. He thought all the bobby pins were gone. "You think you got all of the bobby pins gone? You would have to strip me to get all of them and as see as I won't let you do that then you can't have them." She wasn't going to let him do this to her.He thought for a moment as he saw blood rushing down his arm. "This isn't a good time to talk." He paused. "I'm sorry for breaking the promise not to do it again but I had to." He hung up the phone as he had more tears coming down his eyes,
((Sorry it is so short my glasses broke and I can't see much))
Oliver rolled his eyes when she talked about her cousin. She could be telling the truth, but Oliver doubted that the girl would just be asking if her cousin was alright. He raised an eyebrow at her when she asked if he thought he had all the bobby pins. Oliver was getting tired of this girl's attitude. He threw her back on the bed, holding her wrists above her head with one of his hands, the other reached down to the bottom of her shirt. "Are you sure you want me to do this? Because you could tell me the truth if you have anymore bobby pins on you and I won't strip search you." He glared into her eyes. Oliver didn't really want to cause the girl that much discomfort, but she was pretty. And if he was being honest, he wouldn't mind having to strip her to search for more bobby pins. But he was leaving it entirely up to the girl. Whether or not she was going to be cooperative would decide if he did that."What?" Harlow asked, confused. But Daniel had already hung up and she was left to think by herself. What promise? He must have been doing something bad with how upset he had sounded. Harlow decided to search the guest room for clues to what he had promised her. There had to be something he left behind. Harlow felt a little shaky. It was definitely her fault that Daniel broke a promise she couldn't remember and that made Harlow so frustrated. She felt like she had just woken up to find she was suddenly an adult and that all the decisions made between her 16th birthday and now were made without her involvement. Harlow just felt so unsteady. She was only 15 in the mind. A little more than two years of her life was just gone. "Get it together Harlow." She muttered to herself and widened her search to everywhere in the house, trying to figure out more about Daniel.
She looked at him he didn't believe that she would ask for he cousin. She always told the truth. She felt like bursting in tears. She only had one person who care about her and that was her cousin. Her parents did but they treated her like alright at times. She bit her lip in her cheek. She wasn't going to cry over not being able to call her cousin. She just had to pray that she was alright. She didn't answer him either way. She took a shaky breathe. It didn't matter what she said he was going to do it anyway he was criminal. Weren't all criminals like this? Think she repeated in her head. There has to be away to get out of here. She couldn't seem to find a way out. She wasn't going to cry that would show weakness and make him seem like he won.He felt super bad for breaking his promise. He didn't mean obviously but he lost the one thing he had in his life and he blamed himself. He blamed surfing. He had to make himself the feel the same pain so he could make everything better in his head. That was his thinking. He knew he couldn't make everything better by cutting himself. But it gave one thing he lost and that was hope. Hope that she would get her memories back. He then took his pills that he needed to make him a clam and relaxing person that she told him to take. He threw them out the window. He was perfectly fine without them. He fixed his one arm and cleaned up everything putting it in his kit. He threw out the garbage in a dumpster and quickly ran to his car than left.
Oliver sighed in frustration. He could see it in her eyes that she was fighting tears. "Fine. I'll let you call your cousin if you stop being a pain in my ass. Okay?" Oliver asked her. He still had her pushed onto the bed, her arms held above her head by his hands. He was looking down at the girl with patience as he waited for her to form an answer.Harlow finally found something that she knew couldn't be hers. In a shoe box on the floor of her closet, there were a bunch of little things like a happy meal toy, a few seashells, an old friendship bracelet that looked to have broke from being worn too often, a bunch of letters and ticket stubs, two keychains, a boy's shirt, a few other things, and an envelope with a few blades and a lot of bandaids. Harlow knew this stuff was from her relationship with Daniel. She hated having too much stuff and other than a few birthday cards or notes from the previous school year, she didn't keep much stuff. So this box of things must have been important. Harlow sucked in a breath when she examined the envelope. It was an envelope from her mother's stationary set, but the blades were what scared her. Harlow examined herself for scars, scared that she might have cut herself before losing her memory. When she was satisfied that all her scars were from the accident, she came to the dreading realization of the only other way she would have gotten those blades in the first place. Daniel must have cut himself.
She wasn't going to talk to him. She looked at him. Good he thinks like everybody else does on who I am. She thought quietly to herself. Her cousin never got mad at her or upset. Everyone else was mean to her and yelled at her. She took another deep breathe. "Think what you want of me. Thank you for letting mr keep my bobby pins." She said trying to stay clam. "And no I faint make promises I can't keep." He sat in his car eyeing the box of blades. He started to think on why he cut. He cut to get away from the horrible things in his life. He stopped because she asked him to. He promised not to do it again and given her his blades, but he got more that he didn't tell her about. He needed them just and case something bad happen like this whole freak accident that she doesn't remember anything. He would never be able to hold her again. Her memories would never come back he was alone. Just where he started not too long ago.
Oliver huffed out a sigh, followed by an eye roll. "I warned you." He said simply and pulled a knife out of his pocket that he began to use to cut the girl's shirt off of her. He held her down on the bed firmly so she wouldn't get away from him. He was definitely much stronger than her no matter what she did. Oliver knew that the girl was probably lying about the bobby pins, but he was annoyed. He had been about as nice as he possibly could have after as her kidnapper and she refused to see it that way. Well he wasn't going to tolerate it and Oliver wasn't going to go back on his word about strip searching her. Once her shirt was in shreds, he looked her in the eyes again. "Are you going to cooperate, or am I going to have to turn those nice jeans into ribbons as well?"Harlow grabbed her phone and dialed Daniel's number again as she sprinted out of her door. Where would Daniel go? He had smelled like salt and was covered in sand when she first saw him in the hospital. He was definitely a surfer. So the beach? God it was hard not knowing anything about him. "C'mon, c'mon, pick up..." She muttered to her phone as she ran towards the beach. She just had to pray that he would be there.
She didn't say anything more. She wouldn't say anything to him. He was being a jerk. He probably thought he was being nice to her. She looked at him with a small frown. When he took the knife her heart started to pump faster. She was afraid that he will stab her. Her hands started to sweat from being scared. She knew she had bobby pins in her bra. He wouldn't take it off would he? He did tear her shirt in threads. She was worried what he parents would do if they found out about this. "Just let me go." She said. "I do have bobby pins and I'm not going to give them to you." She said. She looked at him. "Your a jerk and so many other things." She was scared. She didn't know what boys do in the situations about taking clothes off. She heard stories. She wasn't one of those girls. "You don't want a girl like me who is a nerd." She said.He drove to the beach. He didn't get out. He was crying. He just wanted her back. She was calling again. He didn't answer it.
"I don't know why you continue to be so stubborn." He muttered, and then slipped the blade of his knife under the waistband of her jeans and began to cut those too. At first he was confused by the girl calling herself a nerd, then he almost couldn't stop himself from laughing. She thought he was going to rape her! Like Oliver would do such a despicable thing. He stole things. It wasn't in his job description to commit other felonies, but he did have to make an exception when he kidnapped the girl. Anything to keep from being arrested too early.Harlow resisted the urge to throw her phone when Daniel didn't pick up. Who did he think he was? Superman? He was acting like he had the divine and only right to be upset. Harlow was scared and confused and she wanted to cry because she couldn't remember two years of her life. And to top it off, no one was around to make sure she was alright. Cress, her parents, Daniel, no one. Once Harlow reached the beach she began to look around, completely lost. Where was Daniel? Was he even at the beach? She was about to give up when out of the corner of her eye she recognized a car. That car was in several photos she had in her room. That was when Harlow knew it was Daniel's car. She stormed over to it and ripped open the door on the driver's side. Her eyes burning with anger as she glared at Daniel. "You selfish bastard." She said as evenly as she could, her voice threatening to break.
She looked up at him still. Yes she didn't know what he was going to do. Was he about the laugh because she called herself a nerd and dressed like one. It wasn't funny. "Do you think it's funny that I call myself a nerd?" She asked. "I'm not being a stubborn person. Anyways I don't have a life or anything at all. I do what I'm told. So just let me go I have to get to my cousin." She said.He was sitting there when someone came to his window. He looked up and saw her. He wasn't selfish. He didn't say anything. "I'm not selfish. I did nothing at all except lose something in my life. Do you know me? Do you know my mom died and my dad was a drunk and absusive to me and my sister. My sister killed herself and left me with him. You get a second chance to make things better and I would take it. But it doesn't matter anyways I don't have anyone and your thinking I'm the selfish one. You have everyone you need." He said. He paused. "Your parents are on a honeymoon they got married to each other again. Cress is somewhere haven't seen her yet. You got tons of friends at school. You graduated early. I'm a dropout. You took my things away but I got more. You made me get on pills so I don't kill myself. I throw them away not to long ago." He was still crying.
"You think I'm just going to let you go like that? God, you seem so unbelievably stupid. You're provoking me, the person who kidnapped you, who also has a knife and is currently tearing your fucking clothes off. Then after provoking me you think I'm just going to let you leave? I'm a criminal and you've already told me that you wouldn't mind running and telling the cops where I am." Oliver couldn't decide if he was angry at her or amused by her. Probably both."This isn't a fucking contest of who feels worse Daniel!" Harlow exploded. "I can't remember anything from the past two years and you're acting like all these empty words and things are supposed to comfort me when I don't even know what they mean! Last I remember, I was fifteen. FIFTEEN! I was a God damn mess when I was fifteen. And it feels like I just went to sleep and woke up with two years of my life passing without me knowing it. How am I supposed to believe that everything is better now when I can't even remember a God damn thing? If what you're saying is true, then I got my act together for one reason or another, but what's going to fucking keep it that way if I don't remember the reason I got my shit together in the first place? And then to top it off, the only fucking person who came to see me ran off because I didn't get my memory back after five fucking minutes? This shit takes time! You aren't the only person who lost something Daniel. I barely recognize myself and I don't know how to live with that. You could have at least had the fucking decency to make sure I was alright before running down suicidal lane. I can still get my memory back, and I can guarantee that if I do, I will still be beyond pissed at you for this fucking stunt. Do you understand me?" Harlow was breathing hard after getting all of that out of her system. It was nice to finally vent about her memory loss and if anything, she hoped Daniel would wake up and realize that Harlow needed him. Whether she saw him as her boyfriend or not.
She looked at him. "I'm not stupid." She whispered. "And if anything I being a nice girl." She said. "I know I get on peoples nerves. I know I'm label as a nerd. I know I'm not pretty and I know I'm loser." She said. "I only have one friend and that's my cousin who was in a bad accident." She whispered. She didn't break her gaze. "I know I don't have social skills so you could bare with me." She said.He looked at her. She didn't understand. "I know you had a hard time in your life and I know you need me but don't you think that you were the best thing in my life and you kept me from killing myself so many times. You helped me a lot." He whispered. "I love you but you are my sanity and I know your memories have a chance to come back. But without your memories of you helping and me and my problems I have it hurts me a lot. I know I seem selfish but..." He trailed off his voice was shaky. "It's my fault this happen. I canceled our date to go train."
Oliver sighed. Pathetic. He actually felt sorry for this girl. He let go of her and stood up. Oliver then took off his jacket and dropped that and the girl's phone on the bed next to her before slipping out of the room and closing the door behind him. He stayed near the door so he could hear what she said on the phone though. Oliver didn't want any unnecessary surprise visits by the cops.Harlow shook her head. She wasn't going to hear it. She stepped back from the car. "Get out. Stand up. Just look the fuck around." She looked him dead in the eye. "I helped you with your problems then. It doesn't matter If I don't remember helping you because you do. We are on a beach. The place that makes you the most comfortable in the world. How do I know that? Because you came here to cry your eyes out because you're convinced you lost me." And then Harlow slapped him. "And that is for blaming yourself. If I ever hear you blame yourself for my accident again, I will drag you out on that beach, pull you underwater, and shove starfish so far up your nose you will have to get them surgically removed."
She looked at him. She moved her hands some. She grabbed the phone. She failed her number. It went straight to voicemail. "Harlow please don't me mad at me for not calling sooner. I'm so sorry please forgive me." She said. She didn't want to make her cousin mad. "I love you and I hope you get better hugs and kisses. Just please call me back." She whispered. She hoped he wasn't so mad at her.He got of the car and looked around. He was off his pills so he couldn't comprehend things. He nodded his head slowly. Then she slapped him. "Is there a chance you will slapped me again when you get your memories back?" He asked her. Then her phone went off. "That will probably be Cress. Something bad or something important might of happened for her to miss you." He looked down. "I'll shut my mouth."
Oliver listened to the girl talk. Her cousin's name was Harlow? What an odd name. He didn't hear anything menacing in what she was saying, so he just let the girl be."If you keep being an asshole, then yes." Harlow answered and then she picked up her phone when Cress was halfway through what she was saying. "Whoa, Cress, don't hang up, I answered." Harlow wondered where her cousin could even be. "I'm fine, I'm with Daniel. I just got a little banged up. A few scars, a broken wrist, some lost memory." Harlow said, trying to play it off. She was used to protecting Cress because she was like her little sister. Harlow didn't want Cress to worry about her.
She let out a sigh out. "Harlow I'm so sorry something happened" she said. "I left a message at your parents hotel they will call you to check on you." She kept listen to her. "Harlow go easy on him this was the weekend his sister and mother died of course years apart but he's really good to you." She was scared. "Are you sure is everything is ok I would feel bad because I can't get to see you." She didn't know how to tell her where she was. He nodded his head some. He had a small smile. It seemed she was back some. Even though she wasn't back it was like old times. He looked at her. He relaxed on the car.
Oliver sat down outside the door and listened to the girl speak to Harlow. "Oh." Harlow said and glanced up at Daniel. It was the anniversary of his mother and sister's deaths this weekend. No wonder he was so freaked out. He had thought he would have a third person to mourn. "I'm fine Cress. Obviously you're doing something important. You can always see me later."
She nodded and looked some. "Yeah something important." She lied. She didn't want her cousin to worry. "Ok Harlow." She whispered. She didn't want them to worry. "Love you lots and hopes you get better." She said. She took a deep breath. She was angry at him. It was all his fault why she was here. She lost connection. She thought she hung up on her. She must of been super mad to do that. She looked down some. Trying not to cry.He didn't say anything seeing she was talking to her cousin. He looked at the beach. He was still upset still.
Oliver felt guilty. A stupid thing to do as a kidnapper, but what was he to do? He had just not wanted to get caught by the police. What could he have done to stop her from telling the police without kidnapping her?"Love you t-" Harlow heard the phone line go dead. Wow. Talk about important. It wasn't like Cress to hang up on her like that, but then again, Harlow hadn't really known her for the past two years. Cress could have changed a lot since Harlow was fifteen.
Her cousin hated her now. She didn't like her. All because of highest stupid guy who kiddnapped her. She had tears trickle down her face. She couldn't speak up her heart was broken. How was she suppose to know this would happen. She could get connection her. She couldn't tell her what happened."What happened?" He asked looking at her. "Did something happen with Cress I mean she wouldn't hang up the phone or miss you being in the hospital. Unless if something happened to her."
((I'm in a hotel, and my 30 min of free wifi ended right as I was commenting. Fuck. I apologize.))Oliver sighed. Maybe he was being too hard on the girl. But then again, as a kidnapper he was being pretty lenient. He decided that there wasn't much more to eavesdrop on and so he leaned his head on the wall. What was he doing? He was a thief, not a kidnapper.
"I don't know. Maybe she just had gotten busy or something." She paused and tried to think of a reason Cress would hang up on her. Nothing came to mind. So instead she decided to focus on what was in front of her. Daniel. Harlow bit her lip and sighed. It was strange because he seemed like a stranger to her, but they had made each other happy. Harlow didn't want something like that to change.
She was crying now. She got up. "I hate you whoever you are. My cousin hates me and that's all I have and she things I didn't go see her because I didn't want to." She said. She was hurt now. She needed to be comfort. Her cousin was always someone who helped her. She didn't know what to do. She was locked away her whole life. "Hey I'm sure Cress didn't do it on purpose." He said. He didn't know what else to say about her. "Cress loves you Harlow she looks up to you. She doesn't just skip out on spending time with you. Your her only friend." He said.
Oliver opened the door quietly and stood in the door frame. "Oliver." He said quietly. He had a soft expression on his face. He felt bad for the girl, but he couldn't just let her go. She already proved that she wouldn't hesitate to get the cops involved.Harlow shrugged. "Yeah, I guess so." She took a deep breath and bit her lip, pushing thoughts of Cress aside. But somewhere in the back of her mind she was still worried about her cousin.
"You made her hate me." She whispered. She was still crying. "You made my only friend hate me." She said. She looked at him. "I didn't do anything wrong I'm a good person" she whispered. Her voice was quite and sad. She had no one in her life. She curled into a ball. He looked at her. He looked down. "No need to be sad about that. Besides that I have to to home." Which was a complete lie but he didn't feel like he was around the same person as he know. He was scared that she will never get her memory back.
Oliver frowned. He had no idea what to do. Well he knew how to deal with crying girls, but kidnapped ones? Not a chance. So he said nothing and just sat down on the bed next to the girl. His elbows rested on his knees.Harlow barked out laughter. "And I am a purple Penguin. You aren't getting out of this that easily. Even if I don't remember anything, I can tell you're lying. Besides, shouldn't it be the other way around with you trying desperately to get me back? I mean, I saw The Vow." Harlow crossed her arms. "If I'm not going to remember these things myself, I need to learn them. I don't like being a stranger with myself."
She was scared. She wiped her eyes some. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to cry its just that I don't have mamy friends and my cousin is my only friend and she was just in a bad accident." She whispered. "So now you know that I'm not just a nerd but a cry baby too." She whispered."I'm not lying. I would help but it hurts too much for me to be around the person I love when she acts like I'm a complete stranger." He said. "You don't need to learn them all over the agian. You want to." he whispered. "Look I don't need to be rude but the only reason I am alive is because of you."

Once Harlow had a cast and the morphine wore off, Harlow was free to leave. Her parents did not come pick her up so she began to walk home, hoping that they hadn't changed addresses since she lost her memory. Once she got home, as Daniel promised, the guest room was empty, but it still faintly smelled of boy. She went up to her room, which looked so different since the last time she remembered it. It had been completely redecorated, looking more like an adult's room than the childish room she had before. Harlow began going through her things, finding pictures with her, Cress, and Daniel. She also found birthday cards from what Harlow deduced was that she was 18. Last Harlow remembered, she had been 15. She also discovered that she had graduated high school and was taking online classes for college in order to get a degree in business. Harlow began thinking about all these things. Her decisions that didn't seem like her own. It all felt so foreign to her.
