Cynthia I believe that Cather In The Rye should be read in high schools because most of the problems Holden faces have a lot to do with problems now. For example when Holden feels lonely he overthinks everything and he doesnt want to feel alone. As a teenager i know that when I feel down i turn to the first person that can console me. Which was exactly what holden was doing when he got kicked out of Pency. Holden tried to make friends with the cab driver in New York. He also tried to get a prostitute and ended up just wanting to talk. Another reason this book should be read in highschools is because alot of highschools students can relate to Holden by how he tries to avoid his problems by leaving. He left Pency and didnt want to tell anyone about it. Now a days teenagers dont face their problems but they put them off or try to run away from them and act like they will eventually end. Even though in the past 63 years we have evolved alot the same problems still occur to teenagers now and then. This book should be required to be read in high schools so that teenagers can see that these kind of problems occur to an everyday teen.

Susie Schroeder I pretty much agree. I didn't dislike Holden, I just felt sorry for him.

Himanshu To me it was more about a young boy's transition to adulthood. The way with which Holden thinks about friends, irresponsible roomies or for that matter what makes a man "jerk", These truly are some typical teenager thoughts.

Also it is the age when the understanding of good vs bad tends to settle in and takes a form in the head, creating eyes of perception with which we look at the ourselves and others.
The book also represents the idea that education is pumping in our heads. Like the ultimate goal of schooling is to get ourselves in college and Holden in a way represents that failed/ failing kid. The ideas which could very well had been deemed "out of the box" are delimited by the people trying to moderate maturity.

It renders some really deep thoughts in your head even though some of us have sailed past that point.

Ai To be honest reading all reviews i thought that it would be something really extra odrinary. Well yeah i was expecting a bit more excitement in it. Its shows how the little boy sees the world around him and how naive and brave he gets. This could be a good summer read for history students.
