In books, authors show how a character behaves by their actions for the characters have certain motivates that drive them to the things they do. In my independent reading book, the perks of being a wallflower, the main character is Charlie. Throughout the novel, Charlie goes through several adventures with his friends. On those adventures, he experiences several events that shows he is more driven by love then hate. Charlie makes it clear to his audience that he has a huge crush on Sam, one of his good friends. Whenever he sees that she is hurting, he tries to be there for her by being the one she goes to for a shoulder to cry on. He is motived with the idea of always having the person he loves, Sam, be right by his side. Charlie is also driven by the love of his family. For instance on page 34 he states, "aunt Helen always bought me two gifts..." , Charlie talks about his aunt Helen. He mentions her death at the beginning of the novel and from that you can tell how Charlie is hurt by it. He talks about how he misses her. He mainly thinks of Aunt Helen when he is having a hard time. He thinks about how much his aunt meant to him and how much she cared for him. The thought of her loving him keeps him going every day and keeps him insane. Charlie wants to feel loved since his family is not big with being emotional. Whenever someone from his family shows some sort of affection to him, he realizes it and tries his best to mesmerize the moment. When his older sister comes to him for help, Charlie is more than happy to help her because he knows he was the only one his sister had. He is driven to help her not only because of that, but also because he loves his older sister more than anything. Overall, his motivation through the novel is driven by love. No matter from who it is for, he did anything in his power to make sure those who he loved and cared for were all right and happy.
