Connor (view spoiler)[seemed like such a nice brother. It wasn't his fault he was born first. The night he wanted to play video games with Kyle I just knew that he knew he was going to die, but I thought "how could he?" Then when Kyle read his speech I was in tears. He did know. But how? (hide spoiler)]

Kyle (view spoiler)[definitely has been living in his brother's shadow, but Connor tried to be a good brother to him. It's really sad that Kyle didn't take the time to be with his brother before it was too late. I'm so sad for both of them. (hide spoiler)]

Emma (view spoiler)[seems to have been a pretty good girlfriend to Connor. I think she genuinely cared for him, but it would be easy to see how she might fall for Kyle now. I'm curious what will happen. (hide spoiler)]

so sorry guys, driving home from camp (unexpectedly early) sucked up a few hours in my day I wasn't planning

I'm starting now! :) Looks like there are 56 chapters (yay! hopefully that means they are short. I like short chapters)

This book is interesting. Not exactly as I thought it would be, but I like it all the same.

Connor: (view spoiler)[Connor seemed like such a nice guy. He definitely cared about his little brother and wanted to spend more time with him. He just didn't know, how to say it to Kyle or how to make Kyle understand that he didn't want Kyle to feel inferior. No matter what he said Kyle always seemed to get angry at him. (hide spoiler)]

Kyle: (view spoiler)[I understand that Kyle feels inferior and tired of living in Connor's shadow. He's sixteen, so he probably feels insecure and angsty anyway and being compared to his brother makes things even worse. However, he could even give Connor a chance. It's not like Connor is intentionally rubbing his success in Kyle's face. I think Kyle really wants be close with Connor, so it's pretty sad he chooses not to work on their relationship. Being the less successful twin can be hard sometimes (I know this because growing up, I was always less successful than my twin sister), but it doesn't have to ruin the friendship between siblings. Emma: (view spoiler)[ is a nice girl. She seems to make an effort to make sure Kyle knows she cares about him too, not only Connor. She clearly tries to make sure Kyle spends time with his family every now and then. (hide spoiler)]

Cami: (view spoiler)[ I kind of have a feeling that Cami and Kyle will fall in love or something. (hide spoiler)]

Kyle & Connor (view spoiler)[It's so sad. I knew it would be, but still. They both wanted the same thing, to be the best of brothers. It'd be different if one of them was a jerk or didn't like eachother, but even with Kyle feeling overshadowed and inadequate, you can tell he loved Connor and knew he cared. And that speech was heart breaking. (hide spoiler)]

Emma & Cami - (view spoiler)[I'm apprehensive towards Emma. She was a good girlfriend to Conoar and nice to Kyle, and Kyle has mentioned he liked her, but he also mentioned that he felt like she liked having him wait in the wings. Now that Connor is dead, I don't want Kyle to be a substitute. That would be cruel.

I think Cami would be good for him. She understood his feelings toward Connor and shows concern for him. (hide spoiler)]

Emma(view spoiler)[ I'm a little worried she will only be taking Kyle as a substitute for Connor. STILL living in his shadow. I don't think he'll fall for it - at least I hope not. I like Cami so much more. I think she's good at seeing who he really is, understanding how he feels and not letting him get away with crap (hide spoiler)]

I loved(view spoiler)[ the valedictorian speech. Love that he flipped the crowd off at the end. lol Such a Kyle thing. I love that Connor, at that last moment, chose to be more like Kyle - since that's how Kyle felt (like he couldn't be like Connor even if he tried) (hide spoiler)]

I'm curious(view spoiler)[ to see where this genetic engineering thing goes. I'm completely floored that the doctor just disappeared. I mean - really?! Yikes! (hide spoiler)]

18(view spoiler)[ awful. a whole group of kid that won't live to be older than 18. that's just awful. I hope they figure out what he did and that Kyle is okay (hide spoiler)]

I was(view spoiler)[ surprised by how simple the "cure" was - just a new heart. But I guess not so simple when there is no way to get a new one without growing one - since he wouldn't get one from a donor
but I was kind of sad that the doctor couldn't let the knowledge die. It seems dangerous to play with the death date of anyone (hide spoiler)]

This was an interesting book and I really liked the end!

I agree, I was surprised that (view spoiler)[the original doctor has vanished so it is rather suspicious of either wrong-doing on his part or foul play. (hide spoiler)]

The Triagons/James M I thought the FB post was a great idea but not sure it'll work. It's worth a try though. I can't believe that so many kids right on or right before their 18th birthday have die and of a HEART ATTACK? What's going on!!

I agree that Cami (view spoiler)[seems more suited for Kyle and that IF Emma fell for Kyle in the same way she had loved Connor it might not be truly for Kyle. (hide spoiler)]

Emma (view spoiler)[moving is a good thing, I think, if she follows through. (hide spoiler)]

Kyle (view spoiler)[is tenacious! He's already proven he's good at some things that Connor had no part in (digging to get to the bottom of the lab/kids dying). I was happy when Kyle decided to try running and he did it and felt amazing, just like Connor had said. I think he knew Kyle could and Connor always wanted Kyle to be a part of his life. I think they might have been competitive but in a good way. At least I think Connor would've been encouraging to Kyle. (hide spoiler)]

Dr. Mueller (view spoiler)[is kind of creepy. Not so much now when they have found him, but all those people following the kids around taking photos were quite creepy. (hide spoiler)]

James and Amber (view spoiler)[seemed very nice. James especially was such a positive guy. I wish they could have saved him. It was a bit annoying how Amber kept kissing the boys, but she still didn't deserve to die. (hide spoiler)]

It bothers me a little (view spoiler)[ that the kids in this book rely so heavily on facebook. Kids use so many different social media applications and networks these days that it feels a bit weird to have the characters only rely on facebook. Well, Kyle may not be big on social media but Cami could be. (hide spoiler)]

Emma (view spoiler)[I'm glad she moved. I think it's for the best, for her and Kyle. After their goodbye and Kyke's conversation with Cami it's obvious that he would have gone on with Emma, even as Connors substitute. It was sweet what he did with jeep for her though. (hide spoiler)]

18th Birthday/Kyle (view spoiler)[ I'm hoping that they'll figure our a way to stop what's happening, but part of me won't be surprised if they don't. I know they , Kyle, James, and Amber, are being seen by some of the best doctors, but it's been pretty established that their hearts aren't the problem. (hide spoiler)]

Expectations (view spoiler)[I don't know why, but for some reason I thought this book would more sci-fi ish. I think the gene manipulation plot is unique, and the way the author is using it, well thought out and thought provoking. How far is too far? (hide spoiler)]

At least I wasn't the only one then, Katriann! Maybe it was the cover that had me thinking that. I looked over the summary again, and I think because it read science that I automatically perceived it as science-fiction. Lol. But it is good the way it is. :)

The idea of (view spoiler)[ being frozen is pretty terrifying. I know I wouldn't want to do that. It's scary to think that you would be frozen for years and when you woke up all your friends would be much older and everything would be different. And what if they never woke you up at all? It must have been so hard for Kyle to decide whether he wants die or be frozen. (hide spoiler)]

I never saw that coming. (view spoiler)[ Really? Dr. Bartholomev is awful. How could she just experiment on Kyle and lie to his family? I really thought they were going to freeze him. (hide spoiler)]

Virginia and Gene (view spoiler)[were really kind. I hope they will be fine. Hopefully the author will tell us whether they were caught or not. (hide spoiler)]

Dr. Rubenstein (view spoiler)[ is kind of funny. I just wonder what he's gonna do with the research and the immortality gene. (hide spoiler)]

I would like to know (view spoiler)[ if Kyle will really end up living for two or three hundred years. It's very possible that scientists will find a way to remove the immortality gene in the future, so maybe Kyle will eventually get a chance to shorten his life. (hide spoiler)]

It's kind of disturbing (view spoiler)[ how Dr. Rubenstein has people following Kyle even though Kyle said he doesn't want to be involved in his scientific experiments. And did he actually leave the tracker in place too? That would be even creepier. (hide spoiler)]

Phone guy (view spoiler)[It's sad how the guy died, but at the same time I'm wondering who these people working for the Doctor are, why they're doing it, and why they didn't come forward. It's obvious why the Doctor hasn't, he's made a huge mistake, but I feel like if someone had come forward early on maybe the deaths and heartbreak could be avoided.

Dr. Barthalamew (view spoiler)[was a horrible human being who could have used her intelligence for something really good! I didn't trust her at all, but I never expected her to not freeze Kyle and cut up on him. Ugh (hide spoiler)]

Dr. Rubenstein (view spoiler)[did save Kyle but he should have respected what Kyle wanted. It's very creepy that he has people following him. (hide spoiler)]

Kyle (view spoiler)[really held up well and I like that he has a moral compass. He had a lot to consider and I'm glad he didn't want others to suffer at his expense. (hide spoiler)]

Matt (view spoiler)[was perhaps the most disappointing character since I thought he was a good guy and Kyle's friend. Betrayal is the worst type of offense to me. An evil person like Claudia is simply evil and you don't expect anything good from them but to be a "friend" and betray someone really messes with them. I didn't like Matt after his betrayal. Virginia, Gene & the girl on the bus (view spoiler)[They were so kind and brave. Even though they're small characters, with all the different baddies and them being such a huge focal point in the book,having these random good hearted people was nice to see. (hide spoiler)]

Dr. Rubenstein (view spoiler)[I really liked him, so I'm disappointed, but not overly surprised that like his colleagues he couldn't let science go. I am happy that he's at least giving Kyle a choice, and appears to have less... dangerous/crazed/psychopathic goals. (hide spoiler)]

Matt (view spoiler)[I honestly didn't see his betrayal coming, and in the end it probably made me more sympathetic for his character. I like how he slightly redeemed himself by offing Claudia, though it probably wasn't out of regret or wanting to make amends to Kyle (hide spoiler)]

Cami (view spoiler)[Love her. It was so awesome how she trusted him when he went to that party. (hide spoiler)]

The Ending (view spoiler)[Was good. I'm happy that it ended with a semi HEA. I was half expecting for it to end tragically, or for it to end with seeing Kyle after 150 years or some such. (hide spoiler)]
