Margaret | 456 comments And, congratulations Red Pandas on such a stellar effort for Wheel-a-thon!!! You guys did such an amazing job ...

Our team has one of the lower % to target of Books Read Per Month amongst all the teams - which just means that we are all reading exactly what we said we would when we signed up - and yet, we managed to score an incredible amount of points. We obviously have some killer skills when it comes to spinning and reading :)

You guys rock!!

Ooo, this is tough. Let's say... if you think you can finish Fellowship in four days or so, go that way. If you think it will take you longer, the short book may be better. The good news is that whenever you finish Fellowship it's bound to fit in somewhere, especially the picture goals. :)

I'm somewhere in the range of bleh-to-okay. Migraine is gone I think, but I'm still having minor/medium head/sinus-aches, which is unusual for me. And tummyaches every day. :( My doc (of 10 years) is back from vacation now so I'm going to see her on Monday. If anyone has ideas to help, it's her; she knows my mutantness well -- I get the really rare side effects to drugs, and ALL the side effects, and some that aren't listed. I think I'm an alien. *shrug* Thanks for checking in on me!

If not, I could reread White Cat (Curse Workers, #1) by Holly Black to complete the pattern.

There's a list! I read Homer's Odyssey, about an amazing blind cat. And good news - the cat is still alive when she writes the afterward, so you don't have to worry about an untimely end or anything like that :)

Some people say blueberries symbolize protection and Evan protects his younger sister Jessie from mean kids in the book, so it'll work for the blueberry square if Ella doesn't use her book there. Also the kids have an important tree they climb, so ditto if Caly's book isn't used there.

Ooo, nice! I just want to double check - that is a cat on the cover and not like a panther or something, yes?

message 3180: by Lory (new)

Lory | 629 comments I'm guessing it's a no, but wanted to check. If the series name has ring in it, does it count?

For example, The Fifth Assassin9 is in the series "The Culper Ring". Long shot I know, but needed to check.

message 3181: by Kazen (new)

Kazen They're being picky about tasks this time around, so ring in series won't work when it asks for title. :/

message 3182: by Lory (new)

Lory | 629 comments I figured, just had to check. Rings would work though right?

message 3183: by Ray (user2637) (new)

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments How picky is the use of the word 'cat'? Did you know that there are 37 species of cats with the domestic cat being only one of those species? And Felidae is the family of cats, which includes the panther and non-panther types. So there's an argument that can be made... :D

If Tammie's book doesn't work, James Herriot's Cat Stories by James Herriot is probably a good, short read. Herriot's a vet and wrote little bits about life and house-calls. Usually not sad. I can read it if no one else claims the cat spot.

I need to read The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah for my Bookclub. The only possibility I can see is maybe a tree on cover...not sure if that's already taken and the trees on this cover are blurred...not sure it would count...Kazen...could you let me know? I have until 9/7 to read...so it can wait for another card if it won't count.

Also...could my panther book count for lion picture? It's a wild animal as well?

message 3192: by Kazen (last edited Aug 21, 2016 06:21PM) (new)

Kazen Tammie - that book looks really interesting, good for a book club! :)

There are several forces at work here:

- We have you down for the Four Word Title task, and each person can only claim one task at a time. If, after you finish the four word title book, the tree square is still open, we can debate branch shadows then. ;)

- The good news - we can bank books. This is a book you'll be reading for your book club anyway, so go ahead and read it, at whatever time suits you best. If it fits in a square, tree or whatever, we'll pop it in. If it doesn't work, we'll save it for the next card. It's a win-win, so no worries! :D

- The captains are discussing the panther/cat issue, as stated above. We have things to do during the day (darn jobs! ;) and are on opposite sides of the globe, so please understand that it may take a day or two before we have an answer.

Let me know if you have any questions - work starts late for me today so I'll be around for a couple of hours yet. :)

I'm struggling to figure out if one of the books on my immediate to read pile will fit (I've listed them below) - not even sure if they will work for the pictures.

On another note, I've just finished I Take You by Eliza Kennedy so this can be banked for a future round. I Take You by Eliza Kennedy

Up next (if anyone can find a spot to fit these, please let me know and I'll start that one first):
Burial Rites by Hannah Kent
Under the Wide and Starry Sky by Nancy Horan
Sex and the City by Candace Bushnell
Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg - sort of looks like tress in the background, but might be a stretch

We will so make them work! Let's look at the book you just finished, I Take You. Do the following trigger any ideas? The beauty of the picture squares is that we can mold them to our will, hehe.

Lion - character that is brave, or a predator, or a hunter. Any connection with wild or wild animals, including crazy parties or doing wild things or sleeping under the stars...

Mushroom - forests, hidden, potentially lethal if you don't know what you're doing. Is there a porter in the novel? At railroad stations they're called red caps. Maybe someone eats mushrooms, or has a nose shaped like one, or it simply shows up in the text. Or someone plays/mentions Mario Bros.

Soccer ball - anything to do with any kind of ball, from literal to big dance party balls. Any mentions of any kinds of sports that use a ball. Maybe a character is a 'player'?

...and so on. :D

OMG you are so creative! My literal (non creative mind) was looking for the obvious. So in the book I just read, I could see if fitting for Lion the best. The MC Lily is extremely promiscuous and preys on men any chance she can get - it could also fit for the soccer ball as she most definitely is a player.

Have you read the Mercy Thompson series, starting with Moon Called? It's so good! If you like more police procedural with your UF the first few Anita Blake novels are pretty good, starting with Guilty Pleasures. The series goes off base after a half dozen books so be warned, but it doesn't diminish my love for those first few books or the characters. :)
