CARD 2

A sad little girl is pinning a poster up on the notice board. "Lost Kitty". You feel a little tear form in your eye. You look up to blink it away then squint at a furry thing in the tree above. You look back at the poster, then at the furry thing, then at the poster. Finally you head off in search of a ladder, wondering the whole time who would name a dog "Kitty".
Form a ladder by overlapping the end of one book with the beginning of the next book. At least 3 letters must overlap or your ladder will be too weak to rescue Kitty.

Tasks:
•Ladder Book 1
•Ladder Book 2
•Ladder Book 3
•Ladder Book 4
•Ladder Book 5

Rewards:
•4 Experience
•1 Greater Damage Potion

Kazen Ray (user2637) wrote: "I think we should take on the Jabberwocky (#1) next. We can kill it on our 5th hit. It'll do 4 hits, so 80 damage which means we'll need to heal 30 pts during the fight (3 heal potions, 1 greater + 1 heal + 1 minor heal potion, whatever). OR we could use a shield and a greater damage and knock it out in 4 rounds with no heal potions. Both ways leave us at zero hp, which is allowed. We will have to heal or level up before attacking again."

I don't think we can go down to 0. From the rules:

◈ If a Hero is knocked out during the battle, the monster heals to full health.

eta: I think I have it, though. :) After the fight starts we can heal using 3 heal potions and 1 minor heal for 35 hp and survive with 5 left. Finishing the fight will level us and we'll heal up again and be ready to go. :)

eta2: The Jabberwocky is dead, huzzah! We've leveled up, earned gold, and got a nice potion to boot. Well done team!

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments Cool. I keep conflating NRPG rules with Emerge rules :/

Anyway, the difficulty rating (# hits we need to kill it, vs. # hits we can absorb before healing) put the Hydra as our next-easiest target, but it doesn't give enough xp to level up. Maybe the Plague Bringer next? It's hard to plan for because we don't know if it will heal if we use a poison potion on it.

My calcs show we would do best to use a greater poison in the first round (hopefully it won't heal) and 2 great damage + 1 damage throughout the fight to defeat it in 6 atks. If it heals from the poison, we'll need more. For our hp, we'd need 40 hp in heal potions (will probably need to buy some) and 2 shield potions (used on round 3 and round 5 looks best). It's a lot, but we'd level and get good prizes.

No, don't feel guilty! I've 'done' Nanowrimo every year since 2009, but only one year I won; all other years I got less than 5000 words over the whole month. Some years it just works better than others. This year my situation just happens to be stable enough that I'm actually ahead.
