The writing is great. The character development is good. Book has more conversations than action which I liked actually. Because In reality Detectives analyse the evidence rather than chase killers. The writing is a bit formal but I liked Rowling's british formal style. Overall it's a good book.
I'm definitely enjoying this aspect of the writing! I'm about half way finished at the moment and am really liking it! I'm having a hard time putting it down but I'm on vacation so I've got lots of fun things distracting me haha! Glad you enjoyed it!
I hadn't thought of the reason the book was so "talky", but Ravi's comment makes perfect sense. I'm sure there is a ton of talking it out involved in detective work.

Well I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Like Ravi said, the way the book was more conversation and dialogue actually made it very enjoyable to me. Sometimes it's nice to take a rest from constant action that most detective books seem to present and just enjoy the way a more 'normal' investigation would take place. Great read!
Im glad everyone enjoyed it as much as me! The other 2 books are just as good. Actually, the second may be better than the first and the third has a very good cliff hanger. I definitely recommend catching up with the series!! Except you have to wait a year between books then. I am in love with JK Rowling. I loved Harry Potter and I love this series. It shows how versatile she is being able to do an adult and a young adult series. I would like to see her write from a womans perspective instead of always from a mans just to see how she would do it. As far as Cuckoos Calling, i thought the ending was a nice surprise that i didnt see coming.
This wasn't my absolute favorite. I think she's a fantastic writer of adult fiction, but I was a little bored by all the dialogue. As someone in theatre, I LOVE dialogue, but I wish there was a little more action/flashbacks/something different, since to me, every chapter felt a little repetitive in structure. HOWEVER, the dialogue is written very well, very naturally; not a single sentence felt forced to me. I had a feeling how it was going to end by about page 390, but I still enjoyed it enough that I will definitely be reading the 2nd and 3rd books in the future.
