I know other groups I'm in do a monthly group read. I'd be willing to co-ordinate the random selection of a book each month from group member nominations IF people want to do it. Then it would be up to anyone who wanted to read and discuss the book to read and discuss LOL. Or we could tack onto the selection the SciFi Romance Facebook group makes? I could announce it and the date they'll be having their discussion?

Let me know if there's any interest - thanks!

By the way, the SciFi Romance Group on FB picked Jess Anastasi's ATROPHY for June and the discussion in the Group will be June 24 thru 26.

Is there a special page set up for the SFR group read on FB? I missed the last one, don't remember seeing discussion over it.

No, Melisse just does a post. And then for the discussion she also put up a post and people did comment back and forth for the 3 days. I thought it went well for the first attempt.

I don't know if she pins it at the top.

The SFR group on FB is selecting its July read for the discussion group, if anyone wants to go over and weigh in https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fb...

Gena | 71 comments Hi, do we need to join facebook to see the SFR group and discuss the book? I like the idea of a book read, it's just everyone's taste is so different :)

Yes, the discussion is held on the Facebook Group. But we're very strict on no promo except for one or two specific threads per week, if that helps. We've talked about starting a discussion group here but haven't seen much energy around the idea.

The Science Fiction Romance Facebook Group is going to discuss Susan Grant's THE STAR KING on July 29, 30 and 31. They're going to try to get Susan in for a Q&A during the discussion at some point. Here's the Group if you care to join (we control promo pretty strictly) https://www.facebook.com/groups/the.s...

Gena | 71 comments Thanks Veronica. I'm going to give this one a pass. I read the first part, didn't connect with either character and wouldn't be too positive in the following discussion :)

No worries, there'll be other books discussed in the future, no doubt!

I just finished reading the revised version that was released a couple of months ago! Definitely notice some modernization changes! LOVE this book -- it is after all the book that got me hooked on reading SFR! I've read the original version several times before getting the revised one. I'm eager to see what others say about it.

Gena | 71 comments Lol, this is probably why it's so hard to do a monthly book read. Everyone's tastes are so different :) Which is a good thing but makes it challenging to pick a book :)

Definitely. That's why my 'real life' book club is not the traditional everyone-reads-the-same-book type. We each have our own tastes, some in common, get together every 6-8 weeks for a long lunch/discussion (usually about 4 hours!) and we each talk about what we've been reading, what's coming up that we want to read, make recommendations to each other, etc. We're a small group so it works for us. :-) of course we sidetrack I to movies, tv shows, and our personal lives, too, lol!

E.G. Manetti (thornraven) | 157 comments I have the The Star King (Star, #1) by Susan Grant , but I've two other books in front of it. By the time I get to it, it might be August!

On another note - does anyone know what that is in the upper left quadrant on the cover?

Other than leather thong wrapped biceps, not sure what portion you are asking about?

Is that what that is? Whose? It doesn't go with the guy.

Yeah, it does, but you have to look closely. Whoever did the cover faded out too much of his shoulder, so there is only a little connected to his arm. Plus, I think they edited his skin tone to better match his description -- but only on his face, should have done more on the arms too. Overall, this is a better cover concept than the original release, but it seems a bit unrefined. But I'm a graphic designer and can find something to say about most covers I see, which is why covers never influence my opinion to buy or like a story.
