June 1 (Wednesday): What is something that people do that irritates you?

message 2: by Book Concierge (new)

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 3192 comments Mod
Bad driving habits - tail-gating, changing lanes without signaling, talking on their cell phones, (or putting on make-up, or trying to fish something out of the glove box or ....)

message 3: by Marti (new)

Marti (coloreader) Being rude. Like not saying please or thank you, being late, taking advantage of others, being snide or mean.

message 4: by Paige (new)

Paige P (paigepradko) | 74 comments I agree with both Tessa and Marti. I am irritated when I see someone texting while driving or just driving very aggressively.
And like Marti, I am irritated with rudeness and just inconsiderate people in general.

message 5: by Koren (new)

Koren (koren56) | 768 comments Make a short story L-o-n-g. Especially when I'm at work and busy.

message 6: by Tanya D (new)

Tanya D (tdrosebud) | 19 comments I agree with what has been mentioned above. Driving habits are a big thing for me, not using turn signals, not having headlights on in the rain, etc.

And people are just generally rude all around. Our society is so egocentric. People aren't polite and there is an overall lack of respect for people and the places they visit.

June 2 (Thursday): If you had the opportunity to get a message across to a large group of people, what would your message be?

message 8: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melissasd) | 948 comments Leah wrote: "June 1 (Wednesday): What is something that people do that irritates you?"

I agree with everyone. I get so frustrated with drivers. Especially when my children are in the car.

Usually the need to use the bathroom! :-) Just kidding. My children and the smell of coffee.

Leah wrote: "June 3 (Friday): What motivates you to get out of bed every day?"

I don't need much motivation. In the simplest of terms I like life ... whether I'm just relaxing or going off to work or puttering in the garden or spending time reading. It's all good .

Though I do relate to Melissa's "Usually the need to use the bathroom!" ... also the cardinal who sings outside my window (yesterday at 4:32 a.m.! ... I was tempted to throw rocks at him at that hour ... just kidding ...)

A screaming almost two year old wanting out of his crib lol. I've been some in low places in my life so just knowing I have a roof over my head, food in my belly, and a loving family helps me want to get out of bed every day.

message 13: by Amy (new)

Amy A person can stay in bed? Never heard of such a thing? Lol

I can't think of anything that would be important enough to INITIATE war. But defending ourselves, if attacked would definitely get me thinking about engaging in war.

June 9 (Thursday) - What Makes You Laugh?

message 17: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (trakka) Book Concierge wrote: "June 9 (Thursday) - What Makes You Laugh?"

I actually laugh quite freely however something that stands out for me at the moment is my 6 year old and her quirky ways :-)

message 18: by Marti (new)

Marti (coloreader) My granddaughter! She's only 20 months old and I swear she has a sense of humor. Her Daddy had his feet up on the recliner and she waved her hand by her nose and said, "phew-ee! Stinky toes!"

message 19: by Paige (new)

Paige P (paigepradko) | 74 comments A group of people together in a relaxed atmosphere usually begin to tell funny stories and I find myself laughing. The last time was on Memorial Day weekend with a group of friends & family on the deck. Other people's laughter always makes me join right in the fun.

Monday June 13 - There's been another mass shooting this past weekend. Should we ban assault weapons?

Marti (coloreader) Book Concierge wrote: "Monday June 13 - There's been another mass shooting this past weekend. Should we ban assault weapons?"

I believe they should be, but it would be a Sisyphusian task to do so. Like putting toothpaste back in the tube. I despair that anything can actually be done. Just my opinion. I live in Denver, site of two mass shootings, Columbine High School and the theater shootings. Hits close to home. Both shooters got their weapons through legal channels.

Marti, I love that you just used the word Sisyphusian. You are my hero.

Of course they should ban them. No average American has a need for an assault rifle. However, in this day and age if someone wants one they will find a way to get one.

June 14 (Tuesday): If a doctor gave you a year to live, what would you try to accomplish?

message 26: by Amy (new)

Amy I'd continue the writing I've been doing for my children. Making sure I imparted memories, letters, life lessons, family history. Then I'd live the hell out of life and drink in and savor every moment.

Spend as much time as possible with those I love and who love me - my husband, my brothers, my nieces and nephews, my decades-long friends.

Having just read book two in the series it would have to be Carlos Ruiz Zafon's "Cemetery of Forgotten Books"

I would love to be either a student or a professor in the Harry Potter series. Wow, wouldn't that be awesome.

Marti (coloreader) Leah wrote: "June 17 (Friday): What’s the most sensible thing you’ve ever heard someone say?"

The best piece of advice my dad gave me that makes more sense the older I get is, "once you've bought, stop shopping!" This is in the literal sense, not in the relationship arena!

June 20 (Monday): Father's Day was this weekend for many people - did you do anything special for the day?

message 35: by Marti (new)

Marti (coloreader) Our three kids, their spouses and our granddaughter took Dad to Outback for steak. We were a raucous group and enjoyed ourselves immensely. Dad (hubby) got new grill tools, a wheeled Coleman cooler and two Grateful Dead t-shirts. The baby put a to-go box on her head. :^}

Being able to include a link to the book in my comment / review (including cover images, at times).

June 22 (Wednesday): What feature of Goodreads do you no like?

message 40: by Paige (new)

Paige P (paigepradko) | 74 comments I do not like that books that we read and comments we make are open to the general public on the Internet. I am a professional, and when you google to find my practice, my books and comments from Goodreads come up. I think this should be limited to within the Goodreads website or allow us to choose our level of desired privacy.

message 41: by Marti (new)

Marti (coloreader) I don't like that we can't stack comments. So confusing.

How did you find this out? I googled myself and found nothing. Thank goodness!

message 43: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (trakka) I got a bit panicky as well Marti. I googled myself but couldn't find anything.

@Paige - in my account settings/profile I have only "friends" selected for show my last name. The other option is "anyone (including search engines)". Don't know if you have the "anyone" selected and that is why you are coming up. Worth checking.

message 44: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (trakka) It is also worth noting that I have left my last name field blank.

It's not exactly a "no like" but .... The lack of "nested" replies makes it more difficult to have the kinds of group-read discussions we had on Shelfari.

No ... that kind of mentality is why the Balkans have been at war with one another for centuries.

Warren Benton | 75 comments Leah wrote: "June 22 (Wednesday): What feature of Goodreads do you no like?"
I like lots of things about goodreads. I love the giveaways (i've won 8 so far) But one thing I miss is how on Shelfari you could search new people with books in common. You can kind of do it on goodreads but its not the same. I do like when you compare books it gives you a fancy dancy chart but you have to find the person before finding that you have books in common.

message 49: by Koren (new)

Koren (koren56) | 768 comments Leah wrote: "June 22 (Wednesday): What feature of Goodreads do you no like?"

I also do not like the lack of 'nested' replies. I hate the 'she said, she said, she said' and reading the same comment over and over.

Also, I noticed that the 'star rating' does not show up until you hover over the book when you go to 'My Books'.

I think it would depend on the situation. In the case of murder, I think the murderer should have the same thing happen to him that he did to the victim.
