The fonts on my Goodreads pages are very light gray and hard to see.

Nina, the problem seems to have corrected itself, thank goodness. The fonts are back to normal.I'm really going nuts with little tech problems like this. They ruin all my fun! LOL
Currently I'm having problems with my "plug-in", whatever that is. Because of plug-in problems, my connection to the Internet is interrupted several times a day. I have to do a CTRL ALT DELETE and tell my task program to shut down the webpages being affected. I've emailed my son about it and am waiting to hear from him.
The other day, I had email problems when my email program developed a glitch and I couldn't find my inbox. I really panicked. My other son had to do a remote control of my PC to fix things.
I think we were happier before the computer-age. Life was more relaxed back then without the Internet.
Joy, I had the same problem with the fonts last night, but the glitch seems to have been corrected today.Joy wrote: "I think we were happier before the computer age. Werner, I'm glad the glitch resolved itself. Wonder what caused it.Reminds me of the night years ago (which I just remembered now) when the child of a ski resort owner turned off the lights on the ski slope and left the skiers standing in the dark on the ski slopes. The skiers had to wait for the lights to be turned back on again! I remember being there on the ski slope when it happened. My husband says he remembers it too.
As for the Internet bringing us Goodreads, one thing I have observed in life is the fact that everything has its trade-offs! When we get one thing, we sometimes have to give up another thing. LIFE IS FULL OF TRADE-OFFS! When we got the Internet we gave up a kind of peace and quiet! Life is very NOISY on the Internet. LOL And everything moves too fast. :) No rest for the weary! :)
I think GR had something go flakey. I briefly skimmed something about that elsewhere. It didn't happen to me, though. I did notice that the slow posting issue I've had in one topic since Feb this year seems to have finally gone away.
Jim, talking about slow posting, it takes a little while before my posts here in this group go through. From the time I click on "post" to the time I see the finished post here, there are several very long seconds. I'm going to click on "post" now and count the seconds.
It made a liar out of me. The post went right through in half a second. Some days you just can't win!
Yes, with the Internet there is something always on your shoulder hovering to be met and that can be a pain some days but I would hate to give it up as I would lose contact with so many of my friends and loved ones from Africa to Vietnam and in between and I would miss you all.
I see they're rolling out a new home page for GR. Look at the top of the current one for a link to try the new one. I HATE it. No groups! I go to the home page & use that to show me which of my groups have new posts in them. If I can't have a quick way to see that, I'll be leaving most groups.

Since I don't follow any other groups but my own, this change won't affect me the way it will affect you.
Jim, about the new Home Page, it looks too "busy" to me. Just a lot of confusion, if you ask me! Some days I'm ready to just chuck the whole system, Internet and all!
Actually, Joy, the new homepage has the same way of linking to your "Groups" page as the current one does. You just go to the toolbar, put the cursor on the circle with your profile picture in it (the one furthest to the right as you face the screen), and you get the same popped-up list of links that we have with the present one. "My groups" is one of them. The last time they re-did the homepage, though (which wasn't that long ago!) it took me some trial and error to discover that. I'm not a fan of these constant cosmetic changes, either!

Nina wrote: "Another example of 'fixing" something that isn't broken in the first place."Right, Nina. They keep saying the systems are "intuitive" but they're not intuitive to ME! They seem to like to HIDE things from us. :)
The groups on the new home page are not like the way the groups displayed in the old one. Those under the profile are just a list of groups. The old home page used to allow the groups to be displayed with the topics with new comments in them. That's how I've navigated them since I joined. Now I have to go to each group & click on 'unread' which is cumbersome.Worse, according their instructions, we should be able to get the old home page back by clicking on it in the page footer. I have no footer on my home page. It infinitely scrolls my top friends' reviews. Every other page only offers me the mobile or new site option - no old site.
There is a way to get around it. If you go to this link:
https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/5...
click on "old site" & it will give you back the old home page.
There's a link to take a survey on how you like the new design here:
https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/5...
Joy, Jim's clarification above (message 20) helped me to understand what he was talking about originally. Our old homepage has a "toggle" on our update feed, which allows us to control the "filters." We can set it to view just our friends' book reviews (which is the way mine is generally set --I get my news of what's going on in my groups from my daily e-mailed bundled update of "New discussions"); but we can also adjust it to view ALL their activity, including their comments in groups. At this time, the update feed on the new homepage doesn't have this toggle. It's set to show friends' reviews, and only reviews. When I asked about this in the Goodreads Feedback group a short while ago, I was referred to this link: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... . According to the information there, this limitation is only temporary; when the new homepage design is fully functional, it will have the same information capabilities and user controls it does now. So that addresses one issue I had with the new design (although that definitely isn't the only one I have).
I hope none of this will affect my Goodreads Glens Falls group. That's all I care about. LOL And of course I hope that all will be well with my books and my reviews and all my friends at my Goodreads group. I just can't do more than I do now ... especially now that I've got my Fire Tablet looming over my head. :)FunTrivia gets a lot of my time and attention these days too. I'm starting to use Facebook more now because I'm looking at pics of my relatives and their kids. My head is whirling! lol
The emailed updates have never been all that good. I hear complaints about missing posts pretty consistently, something that's not a problem with the home page group view. My email boxes are stuffed very full already. I like being able to catch up on what groups I want when I want separate from email. It's just too easy for me to lose track of them. I check at least 4 email accounts daily, 2 pretty constantly, & most have others funneled into them. For instance, my work email gets emails sent to half a dozen addresses within our domain since I'm the admin, webmaster, etc...
You are a busy busy person bit by bit with your job and the animals and acreage. Enjoy your work while you're able to do so.

That's what I like about Facebook as it keeps me updated on my kids/grandkids and great grandkids and of course some friends too. I would miss it.

Either that or you have more than 24 hours in your day. I can't keep up with the little I do.
I prefer 'efficient' & I try to be. I'm also not very patient about many thing. I do read fast & I delete a lot of it. I find email a lot more efficient than phone calls. People won't drone on in an email. I can usually deal with one faster than even picking up a voice mail.

I like your word, "efficient". I try to be efficient too. That's a great topic for "Table Topics" at Toastmasters! The question could be: In what ways do you consider yourself "efficient". I think I'll suggest it at the next TM meeting. :)

Even at the top of the page, the following words are light gray and hard to see:
Home | My Books | Browse | Community
The names of the posters are also light gray and hard to see.
Do your Goodreads pages look this way? If not, how can I correct my display?
