I use my dads library card number for overdrive, (he lives in another state) his library system is awesome they get all new releases. He only uses his card for physical books. I use my card where I live for both overdrive and physical books. My overdrive isn't as good but it is getting better. My library is also getting better with new releases in physical books.
So My overdrive has 2 sign ins, one for each card.

Does this count against your data on your phone? I tried hoopla on my kindle and it didn't work, sadly.

This has gotten me thinking, hmm any other relatives I can hit up for their card no. ?lol I've wondered though if the library can see the overdrive titles that are checked out with my dad's card. He'd be embarrassed if they can. Lol

I am.

Thanks for the link on this, Kris. I'm going to check it out.

I did not know you can apply for a library card anywhere in bc. I live in vancouver but i only go to two libraries!

That totally make sense, thanks.

Great, thanks, Stephanie! I'll give it a shot then.

Indeed :-)
Luckily they don't really do group reads or challenges. One group is the old historical fiction group and I'm in the HF mood at the moment!
Oh, I might join that one since I'm reading so many these days. I belonged to the old Shelfari group for a time.

Lauren, the historical fiction group from Shelfari was my first group I joined. I have fond memories :-) I went off HF for a while but I feel the interest coming back lately!

Returning to a favorite genre is like greeting an old friend. The same happened to me with historical romance. Hope you enjoy them!

It's December already and I cannot believe the year is almost over. While I'm happy with my progress in my series, I'm thinking about what I'll do differently next year.
I'm going to do more spontaneous reading. For example, I'm dying to get back to Will Trent and Kate Burkholder and yet, haven't been able to all year. I'm just going to stop and read in the moment in 2017.
I'm participating in a LOT of group reads next year and I'm excited about it. However, if people aren't participating in the discussions, I'm going to make them less of a priority. The whole point of reading a book as a group is to have others to talk to about the story.
My monthly reading plans are going to continue to be more realistic. I've set up a system where I can track those I missed without dragging them into the next month's plan.
I'm also keeping a list of books I'm collecting that don't fall into a priority category (author request, NetGalley, etc.) but really want to read. These are books where friends have applauded and I want to read. My goal is to read one of these a month.
There you have it. This was a really good reading year for me in terms of quality and satisfaction. I want to keep the momentum going with these tweaks.
Anyone else thinking about 2017?

I have learnt a lot about my reading this year and I have enjoyed the 2nd half much more when I didn't have the pressure of numbers and also I dropped out of the group reads. Sorry! I just cannot read the same series too regularly. I need around 1.5-2 months at least between 2 books in a series. (Funnily enough my 9 year old daughter says the same thing about her reading!) I know I could/should join in when I have read the book but I feel the moment has gone....
Next year my goal for number of books is going to be very low. I want to read some of the chunky books collecting dust on my shelf plus I will probably be busy towards the end of the year preparing my daughter for entrance exams for secondary school.
My "lists to choose from" have been working well, especially the idea of dropping a book after 3 months, so I will continue this.
Tracey, you have to do what works best for you. I noticed your enthusiasm level changed around the time you adjusted your list. I'd much rather see you happily reading whatever than miserably keeping up with a schedule. Kudos to you for staying true to yourself.
Oh, and my revised approach to my reading plan was first inspired by you.

Thanks you Jonetta.
Oh! I hope it works for you!

I will still read with groups and discuss, but I have to cut down which of those I do whilst sorting and parting with THINGS.
You've definitely been missed, Charlene! Thanks for letting us know what's going on.
That's such an emotional process you're going through. My heart goes out to you.

Also going to continuing reading my own books ( series and just authors I enjoy)

Good plan, Viki! While I definitely want to work on my series, that's not my only reading goal. The last three books I just finished were all standalones. It's good to have balance.

I like your plans for next year and your plan to have more spontaneous reads as I want to do the same. How are you going to be more spontaneous? Also what's your system to keep track of books but not carry them over? 3/4 of my list each month is what I didn't get to the month before.
Jonnetta you are a great moderator for group reads but you do so many of them and would you read those books if they weren't voted on? I'm just curious.
I'm still thinking about what I want to do for 2017, shorter plans and more spontaneity for sure.

I have a personal group I use to manage my reading lists. I created a new one for 2017 to keep track of the books I collect that typically aren't part of a series and I really want to read. I'm going to read something from that list whenever the mood strikes. No plan, no adding to a plan...just when the mood strikes I'll know where to look.
I also created a list to dump the books I didn't get to that month. I already have one for my audiobooks. This way, I don't have to worry about losing track of them, which was why I was rolling them over each month. It was depressing.
If you'd like to look at my planning group, let me know.

Thanks, Laura! If I didn't want to read them, I'd ask for help in leading the discussions. So far, with the exception of the Maggie O'Dell series, I've looked forward to each of them. They're pretty much all 4 & 5 star reads that were on my shelf.
I breathe a sigh of relief every time a series is selected that's on my shelf. But, I'm never too shy to ask for help.

I am glad you are enjoying them, they sure are not my cup of tea.

You are a first class organizer. Maybe I'll make a shelf or something to dump my unread books on.

Only if it fits what you want to do. We'd love your input.

I have a library card for the city I live in and I'm also eligible for a free card from the library located in the county seat for the county in which I live. Lastly, as a resident of the state of Texas I'm entitled to a card from the Houston, TX public library (that's a three hour drive so I only use that one for ebooks and audio books).
I've heard of hoopla but don't know much about it. Can I use it on my kindle?
