We will meet on Monday, June 27th, 2016 at Biddle's Escape (7:00 pm - 9:00 pm) to discuss John Edgar Wideman's contemporary novel, Sent for You Yesterday. Published in 1983, the story is set in Pittsburgh, PA, n'at. For those of us familiar with the area, the story takes place in Homewood, a historically African-American neighborhood in East Pittsburgh.

John Edgar Wideman was born in Washington, DC, but grew up in Pittsburgh. In 1984 Wideman won the International PEN/Faulkner award for Sent for You Yesterday, and again later for Philadelphia Fire. He is the first author to win the award twice.

For those needing a library copy, it seems the Carnegie Library branches have many copies available - don't forget to check out the interlibrary loan system if your local branch doesn't have a copy.

If you cannot make the meeting next month, feel free to share your thoughts here so we can include them at our meeting!

Everyone, turns out I will not be able to make the June 27th meeting. I'll be out of town that day, in the land of cheese (aka Wisconsin) picking up a large item my uncle has been holding onto me since my grandmother died last year. I knew it was going to be happening, but I didn't know when because of my work schedule, my partner's work schedule, etc.

In any case... I am still planning on reading the book (already have a copy from the library and everything!) and will share my thoughts here if someone wouldn't mind taking them to the meeting on June 27th. Not that I'll say anything profound, I'm sure, but it would help me still feel a part of things. :)

Hope everyone is doing well!
