In Both books there is a mysterious group of beings that inject themselves into human and other species. I found myself wondering after reading a bit of the host and having already read the 5th wave . Are they Alike? Are they based off of each other?

they are alike in some ways but for the most part they are really different and they are not based on each other.
I had the same question while I was reading The Host as well. Both novels feature a young female protagonist who will stop at nothing to reclaim what she has lost. While that theme is making its appearances in many young-adult novels, I think the comparison stops there. The plot, setting, characters, tone, and mood can make big differences in the world of literature.
