Katniss has survived the hunger games again thanks to the efforts of her fellow tributes, who are part of a rebellion against the almighty capital. District 12 is gone and district 13 is a reality. The rebels who have fled to 13 for protection want Katniss to be their mocking jay to unite the districts against the capital. Katniss's decision will commit and cost lives in a desperate fight to take down the capital all while confronting the troubling emotional aftermath of participating in the hunger games. Collins presents a though provoking image of dystopian civilization. Like its predecessors, Mockingjay is both disturbing and compelling. Collins deals with a serious theme, the exploitation of children in the name of entertainment, in as hopeful a manner as possible. The novel suggests the psychological effects of this kind of exploitation upon adolescent minds. The subject matter makes the story engaging and suitable for older adolescents and even adults, but especially for the lover of dystopian novels.
