Beth (bbulow) | 21 comments Okay, I think I'll search out Nine Coaches Waiting & This Rough Magic next - they seem to be "favorites" quite often out of my unscientific poll ;)

Hannah (hannahr) | 405 comments Hi Beth! You're in for a treat with Dame Stewart's books. My personal favorite of her romantic suspense novels is Wildfire at Midnight, but my all-time favorite MS book is her "cottage" book Thornyhold, which I see you've got.

Enjoy!

message 303: by Diane Lynn (new)

Diane Lynn | 481 comments Welcome Beth. I second all of Tadiana's picks and throw in Wildfire at Midnight as well. You are in for lots of fun reading. :)

message 304: by Dorcas (new)

Dorcas (onemorepageplease) | 88 comments I love Wildfire by Midnight. its one of my all time favorite gothics PERIOD!

message 305: by Beth (new)

Beth (bbulow) | 21 comments Ooo, thanks ladies! I'll add Wildfire at Midnight to the "seek-first" list ;) I probably won't be able to find all three at the same time, so that works!

message 306: by Judith (new)

Judith (judithgrace) | 323 comments Beth, Amazon has them all, and used they are very cheap. Also try Abe books. Good luck.

Your local library just might have all of her books, if you are lucky!

Tweety (tweetyperkins) | 65 comments Hello Beth!

I can't wait to see what you think of some of my favorites, particularly Wildfire At Midnight, Madam Will You Talk and This Rough Magic as well as Nine Coaches Waiting. :D

message 309: by Beth (new)

Beth (bbulow) | 21 comments Silly me for not thinking to check the library database - they have nearly all of her books! :)

I think I will try to track down used copies, however, because if my mom hasn't read these yet, I want to share them with her. I often pass books along to her because she doesn't get new ones as often as me.

I had checked out a few of your reviews yesterday & added them straight-away!

Jaima | 71 comments Hi, I'm new to the group. Won't be able to join in for the Rose Cottage read, but I look forward to talking about Ms. Stewart's books and hopefully reading some others together. I've read four so far, and the one I liked best was Nine Coaches Waiting. I've added wildfire by moonlight and This Rough Magic to my to read list. Thanks for the recommendations!

message 318: by Fiona (new)

Fiona Ellwood | 6 comments Hi, I,m Fiona, I've been reading Mary Stewart since my teens. My favourites are the Merlin series (including "The Wicked Day", which not many people seem to like) and "Wildfire at Midnight". I'm currently reading "My Brother Michael", then when I've read "This rough Magic" I will have read all Mary Stewart's books. I tend to read them as a palate cleanser between heavier books, as I find them very light, but I like the way she evokes place. Every time I go to Skye I think of Gianetta Drury!

message 319: by Hana (new)

Hana | 316 comments Hi Fiona! Welcome! I'm a fan of Mary Stewart's Arthurian/Merlin series as well and I just started re-reading them. I loved The Crystal Cave and I'm looking forward to re-reading the rest of the series sometime this year.

Enjoy This Rough Magic; it's one of my favorites!

I agree 100% about her ability to evoke a particular place--wonderful.

You've been to Skye? Wow! Lucky you :)

message 320: by Judith (new)

Judith (judithgrace) | 323 comments Welcome Beth, Jaima, Fiona, and Hana too, since I've not said hello to you. This is a fun group...with super nice people in it. I love TRM, mainly because I love the Gales, father and son.

Wow, Skye is a place I'd love to visit! lucky you, Fiona.

message 324: by Abbie (new)

Abbie | 9 comments Hello. I just joined the group. I'm 21 years old and have been a fan of Mary Stewart ever since I read The Moonspinners when I was fourteen. I read it after seeing the Disney adaptation of the book with Haley Mills. Since then, I've been an avid fan of Lady Stewart's and I've devoured as many of her books as I could get my hands on. My favorites are The Moonspinners (of course), Wildfire at Midnight, and This Rough Magic, each of which I've read twice. Currently, I'm reading Nine Coaches Waiting and am almost finished with it. It's so good! I may have to add it to my favorites list!

message 325: by Jaima (new)

Jaima | 71 comments Hi Abbi!
We share favorites, except for Moonspinners which I've never read. I'll definitely have to now!

Tadiana ✩Night Owl☽ | 1090 comments Welcome, Abbie! Moonspinners was my first Mary Stewart book too, when I was about 15. I don't think I fully appreciated it then. :) Nine Coaches Waiting is my favorite.

Katy (kathy_h) | 120 comments How have I not ever discovered this group before? I love Mary Stewart.

Kathy here, from Idaho. Love to read many different genres -- enjoy also sewing/quilting, riding my bike, and being outside.

I discovered Mary Stewart years ago with her Mary Stewart's Merlin Trilogy

Welcome to the group, Abbie & Kathy! Nine Coaches Waiting is one of my favorites. The group read the first of the Merlin trilogy for a group read. I plan to read the rest of the series one of these days.

message 340: by Dorcas (new)

Dorcas (onemorepageplease) | 88 comments Hi Abby! Hi Kathy! Welcome to the group. I haven't read all that many MS yet (about 4, I guess) . So far my favorite has been Wildfire at Midnight. But I'm anxious to read NCW, and MWYT.

message 341: by Tadiana ✩Night Owl☽, Moderator (new)

Tadiana ✩Night Owl☽ | 1090 comments I'd like to do a September mini-group read of a Mary Stewart book. I just posted some suggestions on our More Buddy Reads? thread.
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Abby and Kathy, this group has already done group reads of all of Mary's romantic suspense novels, but there are enough newer members of this group who didn't join all of these group reads, plus those who want to re-read her books, that we've started doing some of these books again for those who are interested.

I'm actually out in Homedale! But we're building a place in Council to eventually retire in. Why, we're practically neighbors!
