Thanks for starting this thread. We had a chat going about the book about a year ago when we read it as a group, but that thread it no longer a part of the group.
I read the book in high school for the first time(this was about 15 years ago now) and loved it. So, when the movie came out I was excited to see it. And I feel like they did the book justice in so many ways! Sure, there were some things missing. But it did a good job to bring it to life all the same!

The book is one of my favorites of all time, so I was worried that the movie might let me down, but it didn't. I loved the movie. Leonardo was a perfect Gatsby. I know there was also a lot of controversy about them using modern music, but I thought that it made the movie more able for us to understand. If they'd played regular music from the 20's, it might have been kind of hard to understand the wildness of all the parties. Also, I liked that Nick was in an asylum. If I recall correctly, I think Fitzgerald had actually hinted at that in his original manuscript. Or am I coming up with that? I think I read that somewhere, I'm not sure.
The movie did a great job of portraying the masterpiece by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Also, I agree with the music choice because it gave a connection with teens now to how it was back in the 20s.
The book is one if the greatest novels of the twentieth century, so I am sorry to say I didn't care for the movie (or the earlier one, with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow). My reason is purely personal: the greatness of Gatsby is not in its story but in Fitzgerald's use of language. I felt the same letdown when I saw the film version of "Mrs. Dalloway," another book that doesn't come across as well in another form because its greatness is in its language. But, again, this is only a personal opinion. (I meant to type "of" and not "if," in my first sentence.)

Did you like Luhrmann's movie adaptation of Fitzgerald's novel? What do you think of Di Caprio's performance as Gatsby?
If you want to share your opinion, I would be grateful if you would compile the following survey, I think you might find it fun.
