Gregor has not left the Underland. He has to deal with the Bane and his army. Meanwhile, Gregor notice the behavior of the humans. Are they as bad as the gnawers?

The answer is yes, they are. While it really took place in the Curse of the Warmbloods, the humans can be rather evil. So much so that when bats are fliers, rats are gnawers, humans are killers! How did they earned such a wonderful title? Well in the 1600s, Sandwich and his people came down to the Underland for...I honestly don’t know why, but they came and found a piece of land they want. The only problem is that diggers, or big moles occupied there. With human pride on his side, Sandwich wages war against them, eventually poisoning their water source. The diggers nearly went extinct that day, but some survived. Later on in this book, the diggers teamed up with the gnawers that is currently fighting against the humans for obvious reasons. It reflects well on us. If we want something, we will fight for it. No matter what it is, where it is, or even how common it is, we will kill others for it.

The reason Sandwich decided to go down below the surface is beyond me. All of the books in the series gave NO REASON why he decided to come down with a huge group of people to the Underland! It can’t be for kicks and giggles! One of the most important questions, possibly THE MOST important question was left unanswered! Therefore it leaves a speculation that will nag the reader constantly, even after reading the book.

The conclusion I have made with The Code of Claw is that it partially wrap things up. We know the reason why humans are hinted to be very distrustful by other creatures, but never explains why they came in the first place. I recommend this book, but prepare for questions left unanswered throughout the book.
