6% I went into this one totally blind. No idea what it's about. And I'm liking it XD The magic aspect, and Game aspect. The fact it's Russian is a nice change, apart from the names being hard to read.

I knew that he'd made Ochvinin Island, as soon as she said it wasn't a significant place.

I have no idea how the Canal is still colourful, because new water's always coming in. She's not using her magic on it anymore.

Harsh of Aizhana to just kill the tsar like that. When she was young, she must have known he would have to leave! And it's not even his fault for getting her pregnant. I bet they didn't have protection back then!

Seeing Pasha like this almost reminds me of Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard, when (don't read unless you've read Red Queen) (view spoiler)[Maven turns on Mare and Cal. (hide spoiler)] I suppose it's really similar, as Nikolai's his brother, and Vika's his love. (hide spoiler)]

Finished. Even though this book typically has stuff I liked in it, to me, this book was only alright. It wasn't that gripping. It had some decent plot twists, like (view spoiler)[Nikolai being the tsar's son, and Aizhana being Nikolai's mother, and Sergei not being Vika's father (hide spoiler)] but I thought the actual Game would be a little different. (view spoiler)[Not just taking turns to show their strength, but more actual violence, or something? I don't know. (hide spoiler)] This story had so many elements from Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard, particularly with the way (view spoiler)[Pasha turned out like Maven for a bit, with the way he ended up ruler, Pasha being his brother, Vika being his love, exactly like Maven. (hide spoiler)] Only I liked Pasha. I actually liked all of the main characters, but the cliches in this were a little much for me.

What an interesting start. The chapters are insanely short so I'm hoping they get a little longer so that we can learn more about everyone instead of getting snippets.

(view spoiler)[I'm really liking Nikolai. He seems like such a sweet boy raised by kind of a tyrannical woman. And now he knows who the other enchanter is. But I will say, I kind of feel bad for Vika. At least Nikolai knew there was someone else out there. Vika had no idea and is now being thrust into the Crowns game where only one can survive. Chapter 10-13: (view spoiler)[Okay, the Crown Game has started. I glad that Vika also got to see her oponent, that only seems fair. I think Pasha might fall in love with Vika and the Game's decision will fall between his best friend and the girl he loves. Also... the magic choses the winner(if the Tsar doesn't...) maybe the magic choses both to win? (hide spoiler)]
