Elle | 4 comments I recently told a friend that I enjoy opening and reading books that were given to me from my grandfather's library; many of them are Agatha Christie. They elicit a Proustian moment just by touching, smelling, and taking in their beauty, age, and essence. I am transported to another place and time where I am happily reading with my grandfather.

Do any of your books take you back to a happy time?

drbooks | 9 comments Yes, definitely! I have this water marked, torn, and yellowed copy of Christie's "The Clocks" that my mother and I used to read together. I keep it on my desk. Whenever I see it, I smile because it brings back such happy memories. Now, I'm reading it with my daughters. I am trying to recreate the same happy memories with them.

Kirsten (kmcripn) I'm sure we all have books like that. I wouldn't let my mom get rid of The Sleep Book by Dr. Seuss The Sleep Book because I loved it so much as a kid.

Luciana (lcruzm) Oh my, yes. My dad passed away this year, and he and I always shared our interests, especially when it came to reading...I gave him lots of recommendations and him me.
For that reason, many books that we discussed and read together take me back to happier times...especially G.R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series which I got to know about through him and I'm still trying to find the courage to read again now that he's gone.
Also my edition of Cat Among the Pidgeons which was given to me by an elementary school teacher, that book just makes me smile a lot and think about simpler days.

Erin (ems84) I have some books from my childhood that my mom use to read to me and, as time went on, I would read on my own.

Sarah | 7 comments For me it's old Harlequin romance books. I remember going over to my grandparents place as a kid and reading all the romance books that my grandma had laying around. These books and my grandma helped start me on my way to becoming a life long book addict.

They also remind me of all the times that my grandparents would take us to the library on the weekend and let me check out as many books as I wanted.

modlynsmysterycorner (mod_lyn) Always!

Elizabeth always , for me when I'm down in the dumps because of my days with anxiety and mild depression I go pick up a book or go to see what eReaderiQ has on it and if there's any free kindle books I might want. and that's me away from been down.
