30.7 - Sandy's Task: Forwards and Backwards

For this task, you will read 2 books. Books with the main page genre Childrens or Kids cannot be used for this task.

**Your books must have a combined total of at least 500 pages.**

Book 1. Read a book whose author's initials are alphabetically sequential - CD, RS, etc. Only the first and last initials need to be considered - middle names and initials should be ignored. If there are multiple authors of a book, all authors must have the same initials.

Book 2. Read a book whose author's initials are the same as those of book 1, but in the reverse order. Again, ignore middle initials. If there are multiple authors of a book, all authors must have the same initials.

Examples: If you read a book by Charles Dickens for book 1, you could read a book by Deborah Crombie for book 2.
If you read a book by Ruta Sepetys for book 1, you could read a book by Stella Rimington for book 2.

This book has 2 authors, so I was wondering if it works for the task.

Good question. If there are multiple authors of a book, all the initials must be the same. I'll be amending the task to make that clear.

Do the initials have to be connected because AM - MA are not. I took it from the example that they had to be consecutive, but it would be SO much easier if not.

Like RS > SR is okay
RT > TR isn't

Just want to clarify, and I might rethink my books for this task. :)

you're absolutely right - the task says that the initials must be consecutive - i.e., immediately sequential. I didn't actually ok the secondary example in the previous post - I was focusing on the multiple author issue.

And, as Daphne points out, these authors will not work because A and M are not alphabetically sequential.

For confirmation on ignoring middle initials, would author K.A. Linde work (ignoring A)? So KL, then paired with LK author? The K.A. part was throwing me off there!

yes, when you ignore the middle initial, you get KL, which works.
