Fishface | 18923 comments According to experts, what was the probable motive for the murder of the man we know only as Otzi?

A) Theft of his very expensive axe
B) Theft of his herd of goats
C) Inheritance

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1297 comments I'd say B). he was found high up on the slopes with an arrowhead in his shoulder and other injuries, if I recall correctly. It makes sense that he might have been moving livestock through or to grazing grounds. Without looking it up, I think he still had his tools and food with him, so it probably wasn't personal theft. As far as inheritance - who could tell? I don't think we know if he had offspring, etc.

If you like that sort of thing, there's an amazing site with 3D photos of Otzi that you can manipulate to view his tattoos and other features.

Fishface | 18923 comments DING DING DING! B is absolutely CORRECT! (Even though I personally disagree with it -- who goes up into the mountains with a quiver of half-finished arrows to talk to goats when he has 4 broken ribs? Surely someone could have covered for him that day...)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1297 comments Yeah, have to agree - seems to me he might have been fleeing some afore-threatened violence.
