Melissa (mkowalewski) | 46 comments Hi folks! I'm looking for recommendations about how to change communication styles, cognitive behavioral therapy and relationships. Very broad I know. I'm on a journey to change myself, hopefully for the better and I find that reading is helpful in assisting me in this journey. They can be anything from self-help, to memoir to fiction to other non fiction. Thanks ahead of time!

Kathy Deborah Tannen's books about communication differences are accessible and interesting. The first published was That's Not What I Meant!, but her research really took off with You Just Don't Understand: Women and Men in Conversation. She has also written about the linguistic struggle shown in mother-daughter relationships and how people communicate (or don't) in the workplace and political power struggles. I wouldn't take her books one after the other, but they provide lots of self-insight and I think they're all worth reading.

Sharman (dsei) | 45 comments Melissa, you may also want to look into William Glasser's Choice Theory. Very informative. I saw him at a conference and read his books. He helps you understand the needs that people have and the dynamics of relationships.
