I'm not surprised Uthred hooked up with the witch. I have a feeling she's going to be bad for him. She promised him wealth by attacking her husband, only to be disappointed at how little was there. And now Uthred is denier her half the meager horde. I can't imagine her taking that well.

I loved seeing Ragnar again. I don't like the idea of Brida convincing him to invade Wessex though. I don't think it will end well. Mostly because we all know how it works out for England.

I don't want to see Ragnar die. Brida is right that Alfred (or his son) will be coming for them eventually, but likely after they have both died. I guess they want a land of religious freedom for their people.

Ctgt | 629 comments I was a bit surprised about Uhtred and Skade hooking up, I thought he was smarter than that. I do agree with your thoughts on Brida. I'm trying to figure out if she has an ulterior motive besides her concern for Alfred and his expansion.

Suzanne | 1582 comments I wasn't too surprised about Skada, but I think Uthred understands what she is. I don't want Ragnar to die either! More comments later when I'm on a computer.

Suzanne | 1582 comments I think Uthred would be really really smart to kill Skada - she is just way to bloodthirsty in a mean way - and he's seen that! It WAS funny that there really wasn't that much gold, but yeah, Skada really won't take the non-division well.

I don't know if Brida is correct or not - if I were her, I'd at least consider waiting til Alfred is dead, and seeing what happens. Given his heir, Wessex will almost assuredly be weaker.

Really, Alfred et. al. made a huge mistake driving Uthred away - I'm SURE it was a plot to humiliate him, but they lost their best warlord.

There is no way Uthred would just kill her though, even if he maybe should.

Time will tell if Edward is stronger or weaker than his father.

But yeah, Alfred mistreated Uthred.

Ctgt | 629 comments This is one of those times when Uhtred's humanity does him no favors, he should have offed her right away.

Kat | 1178 comments I agree. I trust her not one bit, she'll be back to make trouble for sure.

Am also disappointed at the small hoard.

I liked the description of Zegge, because people STILL live like that on those islands to this day. I went to boarding school with a score of kids from islands in Frisia, as they are too small for schools beyond elementary level and they have to send the kids ashore for formal education.
