OK it seems like you and the other one are one and the same, and you updated your original total and I didn't see it :) So I'll change yours now Sam :) Thanks!

Ace (aceonroam) 36,342 pages wow

We may need to split into divisions, I will be in lightweight class haha. I am really amazed at some readers and Michelle who went to dinner and then came home and read more after dinner than I read the whole weekend. Michelle how do you read so fast????

It is a great big wow Ace! There were some exceptionally high totals - but even the small page totals are great; without them our final wouldn't be so good :) Every little bit helps!

Agree, every page counts and we nearly doubled our target which is phenomenal!

Elias Zanbaka | 862 comments I've kind of had to un-train myself to speed read, especially if it was a really good book. It's almost like trying to devour a delicious meal in just a few bites, not really taking the time to savour or enjoy it. You kind of feel a little guilty once its over because you never took your time with it and now it's over. Trying to savour it though is easier said than done because the really good books almost demand to be devoured!

message 462: by Em (new)

Em (em-reads) But then you can speedily read it again to pick up on what you missed! :)

message 463: by MichelleG (new)

MichelleG (michellegreiss) | 1186 comments I agree in a sense, proper speed reading isn't really great if your aim is enjoying a story. I'm a long, long way from that anyway ... More of a fast walk against a V8 supercar lol :)

message 464: by Elias (last edited Jun 08, 2016 04:50AM) (new)

Elias Zanbaka | 862 comments Haha, yeah, well, it's that and also wanting to go back over certain sections or sentences just to see how that author is achieving a certain effect or feeling with the writing. I remember re-reading two main sections of The Silence of the Lambs almost ten times each just to see how such an effective build-up and release of tension was being created [the descriptions, sentence structure and varying sentence length etc.]. The entire book ending up taking me a while to finish but it was more than worth it.

message 465: by MichelleG (new)

MichelleG (michellegreiss) | 1186 comments Haha true sometimes it's nice to savour a book, other times all I want to do is race to the end as fast as humanly possible... Depends on the book IMO :)

message 466: by Elias (last edited Jun 08, 2016 05:09AM) (new)

Elias Zanbaka | 862 comments That's especially true when you're dying to know what happens next!

I was just reading over what I wrote and I almost sound like some English teacher picking apart and over analysing every single letter that Shakespeare ever put to paper in search for some deep profound truth about the human condition.

message 467: by Neko (new)

Neko I guess why I'd like to speed read would be so i can knock out a few books that are sitting on my shelf for ages..haha. i know i tend to read faster while using the Kindle instead of an actual novel though.

I tried a few years ago to do it but never properly kept going..oops!

Oh n even if you can speed read I'd just assume you can decide when to do it n not all the time..sooo you'd still get to savor some awesome reads! :p
