Hello from East Yorkshire!

Hello, I’m Mariah, and I’ve been reading crime since I discovered the Sherlock Holmes stories during my school years. Since then I’ve read my way through all of Agatha Christie’s novels, Marjory Allingham and Christianna Brand, and many others. I read the more modern crime and thrillers too, but for me there is nothing like a good, old-fashioned “who dunnit” or “why dunnit”!

Last year I wrote and self-published my first novel, and it was quite a journey (I hate the “J” word, but there you go!), and I’m half way through my second. Some wise person said “remember the reader” when you are writing, and I know what I like personally as a reader, but I’d like to learn more about what other readers like.

I joined GoodReads a few weeks ago so that I can do that, engage more with other readers. I’m still getting to grips with how it all works, but thoroughly enjoying it … a bit worried that there are so many good recommendations flying around that I will spend more time reading and less time writing!

Just finished Belinda Bauer’s “Blacklands", thinking of trying an MC Beaton next for a bit of light relief.

On the back of Thomas's comment above about David Mark I checked him out ... I probably missed him because he looks a bit "gritty" for me ... but really pleased you brought him to my attention, as I was born and raised in Hull. Definitely one for me to look at soon, it will be interesting to see how he writes about my home town, thanks Thomas!
